So. I was a little underwhelmed by this outing. It’s interesting to see the latest installment of the Monarch Family. And to know that Rusty now has a new arch. But overall, it left me feeling meh.
Anyone else?

I agree – there wasn’t a whole lot going on this episode, except for future set up.
The Monarch still hates Rusty; will he blow his newfound good standing in the Guild? Note that he was willing to blow up a party of supervillains to get a shot – and he didn’t seem too concerned that Dr. Girlfriend could be in danger.
It sounds like the Murderous Moppets are planning something heinous, ostensibly killing the henchman and – possibly – doing something to the Monarch. Though it cut out before we heard exactly what.
Not too many funny bits. The Jack-leen Onassis line was cute. Would Rusty have figured out Mariah Carey eventually?
“We got a bleeder. Put away the non-lethal. We’re going Full Nerf.”
Not a lot of hatred left in Sgt. Hatred.
“Hate to Live, don’t Live to Hate!”
I wonder what happened to Princess Tinyfeet. Probably left Sgt H. because of whatever it was that put the “no minors in 1000 feet” restriction on him.
But I just remembered that Hank and Dean were molested in some way in the past by the Sarge. They mentioned it when they were kidnapped by Myra. According to Hank, it was “Mostly” awful.
I laughed a bit, but yeah, I considered this to be mostly setup. I think the fact that there wasn’t even a thread on this episode until two days later speaks volumes.
But I did find the moppet sideplot amusing.
I liked Hatred’s rant at the Monarch, and the Monarch’s reaction- He’s starting to show that he can play with the big boys. If the micro-bomb had been waterproof, Venture dies, Hatred takes the blame (His arch, his bomb, his house) and Monarch walks. (Assuming the bomb wouldn’t have killed him and Hatred, too. Hatred, who should know, seemed to think it would).
Also, 21 was right- the flying tank is cool.
I enjoyed it - particularly Hatred’s method of revenge.
And Dean trying to help 24 in the medbay.
And the whole conversation about ‘Nell’.
I thought this was one of the funniest episodes so far this season. A lot of the humor was really understated though:
The fact that the Monarch still doesn’t know who 24 is. Despite having been around him since they were both henchmen for the limb. You get the impression that he only consistently recognizes 21 because he’s “the fat one”.
Brock watching the PBS documentary on the giant crossbow. He won’t come help Rusty because he wants to see the end where they shoot it.
“Hate to live … don’t live to hate.”
21 leaving Dean alone with 24 to cheer him up.
Just watched this on Adult Swim’s website.
Monarch wasn’t expecting Venture to come out and join them, though. Both him and Hatred were scared of the bomb.
Regarding Princess Tinyfeet, Hatred mentioned she was out of town.
It was a very understated episode, although there’s not much that really sucked about it. I liked them blatantly pointing out Girlfriend’s a smoker (Monarch: “I should have seen it! The filled ashtrays, the empty packs!” Hatred: “And, let’s be honest, the 3 pack a day voice.”), and Hatred’s grand scheme for getting back at Monarch by making Venture’s life comfortable.
Are the Murderous Moppets Australian? It really turned up the creepy factor when they began carrying in their “doggy bed.” They’re starting to get a little oompa-loompa-esque.
The Monarch has always felt that he could play with the big boys. The Sarge could have torn him in two right then and there, but the Monarch just doesn’t know when (or possibly how) to just let go of his problems and shut up.
This is really of no consequence to anything, but if I recall correctly he said that Tinyfeet was “staying with her mother”. That could just as easily mean that she’s left him, though he didn’t seem too upset about it. (Would he?)
“Follow your dreams … even if they’re about a giant spider with your father’s head, who keeps trying to steal your penis.”
Pure awesome.
I thought Hatred’s plan was the most clever inversion of a comic book trope the show has ever done. I do agree that there weren’t as many laugh-out-loud moments as usual, though.
They will have to work pretty hard to top … the Nozzle.
Except Monarch’s plan to bump off Venture, and set Hatred up for the fall was pretty darned good.
I think his trial may have done him good.
