New Version Bug Reports

I’ve got Netscape 4.7 and 6., running XP home, so I thought I’d check.

In 4.7, my reply to thread screen has only a title box and a large box to type the message in. No smilies, no font/color or other options.

Centered below the text box are the submit/preview and below that are the additional options.

In Netscape 6, I see the problems that have been described with Mozilla - I see 4 smilies, as if the box was cut in half. I do have the formatting options, but they look a little different than they do in IE, but none appear to be missing. I think there are fewer issues with Netscape 6 than with Mozilla, but it’s still a little off. Not terrible and still usable though.

Ignore my post about the Linear-Newest first problem. I was actually trying to go for Oldest first and wasn’t thinking clearly. It worked fine when I switched it correctly.

In the past, I could paste symbols or use ampersanded special chars, though HTML was disabled.

Now none of these work. Capital sigma pastes as capital S, and the vBBS symbol tags don’t help. Maybe the problem is in Preview (I saw something similar on a different board package), but I don’t want to take the chance of posting garbage until I hear for sure.

Special characters are very useful for mathematics, Greek/Hebrew and other technical topics where I find plain text loathesome and well-nigh unintelligible.

Oh, and while I’m here, I can’t auto-login with Mozilla 1.5 on Win2000 with cookies enabled

As I’m typing a reply, I see a blank “Title:” bar above - it’s purpose is unknown to me.

Several times tonight, when I have clicked on “size” and typed my message in the pop-up bar, the end ([SIZE ]) doesn’t appear, and I therefore had to insert the symbols/letters manually.

If possible, the board is slower than ever.

All this, and no new smilies? :frowning:

I am using WinXP home and IE6. I too have to log in each visit. Here are the issues I have to report:

  1. The advice in the above sticky for those being logged out doesn’t seem to apply anymore. I don’t see the cookie options anymore. (It could be my inexperience).
  1. I couldn’t find the feature where you can quote someone and have his/her name show up (“originally posted by Arnold W…”). Is it gone?

  2. In the user cp–>edit options the Default Thread Age Cutoff was set to Use Forum Default, and it was like forever-- the number of threads loaded was very high. I changed it to 2 days. I hope this will speed things up. I haven’t checked whether it saves when I log out & back in. Maybe the hamsters would be happier if the Forum Default were 1 day or 2 days: something SDMB administrators could set perhaps?

Nope, it’s not gone. There’s two reply boxes. A large one on the bottom left of the thread, outside the thread area, and a small one to the bottom right of each post. That small one on each post is the Reply with Quote button.

[li]Thanks Q.E.D.![/li][li](Where’s that embarrassed smilie?)[/li][li]testing whether the 3rd list item is automatically, well, you know…[/li][/ol]

When I click on a user’s name and then choose “view profile” from the pulldown box (I like the pulldown box, btw), the profile opens in a new browser window and the window I was initially using.
Also, the smilies in the box next to the reply field are off-center, and the right side of the “putz” smilie is cut off.

Windows 2000, Netscape 6.

Me again.

In the “edit options” section of the user control panel, the checkboxes appear to work, but the changes I made didn’t take. Also, none of the pulldown menus will open.

Another update: when I made my last post, only one column of five smilies were visible. Now another column is barely visible along the right edge of the box.

The board doesn’t remember me either, I’m using Mozilla Firebird 0.7 (“Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031216 Firebird/0.7+”) on Win2K.

Ditto on the smily display problem.

I’m getting a screen prompt that messages have to be at least 10 characters in length. That sucks.
Still not saving my login between sessions.
Add sig is the default setting. Annoying.

I didn’t have to log in today, so apparantly cookies are now operational. Any one else?

I also have to log in every time I come back, in both:

Mac OS9 using IE 5.1

and

Mac OSX Jaguar using Safari

I just had to log in, so still not cookied.

And let me echo what NoClueBoy said: I want to add sig, when appropriate, not un-check for every post I make.

I have windows 2000, IE 6. Despite having a dsl connection everything moves very slowly and often goes to a “page cannot be found” screen. I also am no longer cookied and I’ve been unable to post messages since the format changed.

Chalk me up as another who has to log in everytime.

WinXP IE5

I’m being logged out/forgotten, but not between sessions; it seems to be happening each time the board is unavailable (when the ‘problem with the database’ message appears).

Search Engine Error…

Did a vanity search. I know I’ve posted since 1/11, but the last post it can find by me is one in a Buffy thread.

The Forum Jump menu works intermittently.
Sometimes the menu pops up, but can’t be chosen from.
At other times the pop up menu just isn’t shown.

Oops, forgot to add: Mac OSX IE5.1
