New Version Bug Reports

It remembered to log me in this time. I wonder if choosing the “Bright Links” theme (so I can tell visited from unvisited threads) forced it to remember?

Oh, and the smilies seem to be mostly fixed. I can see all of them but the (beige) container the RTE is in still hangs off the right edge of its (light bluish-purple) parent. Is that half-inch margin on the left supposed to be there? Getting rid of it would solve the problem, I think.

The magic popup menus found on Usernames and up in the headers for each thread does not go away when a selection is made so you never know if you clicked on it or not. I have had this happen at work with Win 2k and IE6 and at home with XP and MozillaFirebird.

Dunno if this is a bug or if VB thought that it would ba good idea.

Windows98, IE 6.

Yes, I’m getting all the previous problems: had to log in again today, threads appearing so slowly as to be almost unusable, etc. And there is something about this format that literally gives me a headache when I try reading it.

But I do have several complaints that don’t appear to have been made so far.

There is a slight lag when typing into the message box that is very annoying. The letters appear to flicker as I type.

Earlier I hit Preview and - after a long, long time - the preview box opened but none of the previous messages were visible. Is this supposed to be the case? It’s a huge problem if so.

And then when I hit Submit I got an error page that said that No valid thread selected and gave a pull-down menu to select a Forum.

The irony is that if this posts than that error has been fixed, and if it hasn’t been fixed you’ll never see this complaint. :frowning:

Good news and bad news.

The good news is that my previous post obviously went through.

The bad news is that after I hit Submit, the post hung for a long time and finally gave me back a blank screen with the IE icons in black along the top.

From experince I know this means I need to reboot.

I did and I came in through Netscape 7.1 to see if it acts more stably than IE.

Here’s hopin’.

Not a technical issue per se, but I really miss the “Location:” field in the data about each poster :(. In GD, especially, it is often important information!
Can we have it back? Please?

Dani

It’s now remembering me when I returen (IE 6, Windows 2000).

I noticed the automatic show your signature option (after posting). It used to be a setting in the user profile, but I couldn’t find it.

I agree with Noone Special about the location. Hopefully, that will be back once the tweaks are done.

I’ve experienced the “can’t stay logged in – need to log in whenever I open SDMB” problem – but intermittently, and it seems to me to be connected to when the board goes down. Each time it’s brought back online after having gone into “we are experiencing minor technical difficulties” screen, I need to log back in. When I’ve exited the Internet off and the SDMB system hasn’t crashed in the interim, I don’t need to log in again. I dunno if that helps any – but there does seem to be a connection. (Windows 2000 Professional, MSIE 6.00.2800.1106IS, on a 52K dialup, if that is useful.)

I use the “new posts” link all the time…but the page doesn’t refresh automatically as it did with the old format. If I click on a link back to “page 1”, or am on the first page of new posts and refresh, I get the page from the cache. Only going back to the homepage and clicking through sorts the problem.

Mozilla 1.5, XP.

I didn’t see this thread before posting in another one about the board’s new look, so I hope it’s ok to “cross post” this here, since it seems more relevant in this thread.

I posted a reply (with quote) to a thread in Cafe Society. When it displayed, it was at the top, and the rest of the thread was in reverse order. Now, every thread I open has the OP at the bottom and the most recent reply at the top. It’s driving me batshit. Did I click something wrong that I could go unclick somewhere, or something? I’ve tried changing the display modes back and forth, but nothing in those options corrects the problem.

Shayna, you may want to check your user profile. Under Edit Options, there is a section called Thread Display Options with a Thread Display Mode that can be set to older first or newest first. Maybe that got changed somehow.

Not a bug. . .

But can we have the default to “not show sig unless requested”?

Another vote for showing location.

Also, in the profiles, there isn’t a link to the last post that person made anymore. :frowning:

In User CP Options, there’s a dropdown that allows you to list how to display the threads. Traditionally we’ve always had “oldest first” but there’s now an option for “youngest first” – which sounds like what you’ve got as your display. Check it out.

Just for completeness’ sake on the bug report/beta test:

Win98 / IE5

I’m staying logged in while cruising the boards, but the automatic login doesn’t seem to take from session to session. Every time I come to the boards*, despite having checked the little “Remember Me” box, it doesn’t.

The option to enable (or disable) cookies in the User CP->Edit Options screen has vanooshed without a trace. Before the vBB upgrade, I had these options enabled, though it seems all of my other preferences have remained unchanged. (Show threads oldest post first, not subscribing to every thread I post to, etc. etc.)
*[sub]In fact, I had to look up my login password in my little notebook, it’s been that long since I had to manually login to the boards.[/sub]

Using XP here: in Explorer 6 the “Report bad post” (“exclamation point”) button appears. In the non-Java version of Opera 7.23: the button is missing!

BTW: the last post one makes in Explorer, looks like it is missing the button also. The difference is that in Opera, all the posts are missing the button!

:smack: ignore that last comment, I just noticed the button dissapears only in your posts, The Opera problem, with all “Report bad post” buttons missing, does happen in all the posts, regardless if they are yours or not.

Win 2k, IE 6.0

I got the “need to log in every time” problem too, but more importantly, every message is wider than my display.

Remember in the old versions of vB when someone would post something like:

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and every message below that one would have their line length fouled up? (the last version fixed this so only the one message had fouled up line length) That’s what it looks like. I have to scroll right on every line of text or lose the last word or three. I’m (by necessity) running in 800x600 and it’s really annoying to have to keep scrolling sideways.

Fenris

Sadly, two more possible bugs…

  1. Three times now a thread has loaded and it’s just been text on a white screen. No images, no formatting, no background colors, no nothing. Different threads in different forums on different days.

  2. I just tried (not 10 minutes ago) to get into the GQ forum and got told ‘Jonathan Chance you do not have permission to access this forum. etc etc blah blah blah’. Alarming, to say the least. This continued for a couple of minutes until a refresh let me in normally.

Whoa. Fenris’ post really messed up my display.

I’m also not being cookied. Have to log in each time.
