“56. Mylene Farmer - Désenchantée”

As I did this for the other thread, might as well do it here. The literal translation of “désenchantée” is disenchanted. If I weren’t so damned lazy I would go find a better word for it, but I am so I’m not (yeah . . . ).

this’ll be out of order since mattk didn’t post his answers here (ahem, matt ;))

Anthracite, you are my new lesbian hero for picking a Tubes song, and from that best of all possible albums Remote Control.

It’s a great song, one of my Top 20 80’s songs. The Tubes were kinda underappreciated, so you’re probably the only one that got that one.

Shoot! I’ve just now come across this 80s music thread by accident! I’m a DJ at a college radio station and my show is “The Spandex Years” - all 80s music! In fact, I’m doing a Laurie Anderson special this Wednesday. Would anyone like to make a requst?

And just how many lesbian heroes (heroines?) do you have in your life right now? :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

Just one, and you are it. I deliberately left the ‘hero’ in the unisex (though some would say masculine, I find that outdated) form because I don’t know if you are butch or fem.

Oh, and Fee is back with the Tubes and they tour now - they totally kick ass, I can’t recommend them highly enough. I also saw Fee had some solo stuff on mp3.com

OK, enough fan grovelling. Back to the lesbian hero[ine] worship.

  1. “Shipbuilding” Robert Wyatt (written by E Costello);
  2. “Jeanette” The (English) Beat;
  3. “No Bulbs” The Fall (I’ll be very surprised if you got that!);
  4. “Just Like Honey” the Jesus and Mary Chain;
  5. “Grass” XTC;
  6. “From a Whisper to a Scream” Costello & Tillbrook;
  7. “Killing Moon” Echo & the Bunnymen;
  8. “Happy Birthday” Altered Images (bonus points for knowing the connection to “Red Dwarf”!)
  9. “What Presence?” Orange Juice. Coolest single of the 80s;
  10. “King Car” The 3 Johns;
  11. “Your Girlfriend is What I Like Best About You”, the Special AKA;
  12. “Enola Gay” Orchestral Manoevers in the Dark;
  13. “W.O.R.K.” Bow Wow Wow;
  14. “Kiss Me on the Bus” Replacements;
  15. “Wot!” Captain Sensible;
  16. “Love Will Tear Us Apart” Joy Division;
  17. “Down in the Tube Station at Midnight” The Jam;
  18. “Didn’t You Kill My Brother?” Alexi Sayle;
  19. “I Say Nothing” Voice of the Beehive;
  20. “California Kid” The Beat Farmers (RIP Country Dick Montana);
  21. “The Man With the Lightbulb Head” Robyn Hitchcock;
  22. “It Says Here” Billy Bragg.

Sorry, don’t mind me.

I thought this was a music thread.

I return you now to your early MTV lives.

The Tubes are playing a free show at the taste of Minnesota today. I told my boss I needed to cut out early to see 'em. I saw Modern English last night and Frankie Goes to Hollywood the previous night. Gotta love free shows, especially bands that you wouldn’t really pay to see now, but that you go to and enjoy oneself

Since you asked, fem in dress and attitude in general, but butch if I get pushed around by people.

Rodd Hill, when I get home I’ll find some more, including some Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Thanks everyone for reading!
