Right, what I was thinking was that you could bail on the instance and do the next one after you get the achievement you wanted. Hopefully if you failed the achieve you would be able to wipe on the boss and keep trying.
Thanks for the suggestion Nava about plugging right into the router. I will try that. Haven’t done that yet. My wireless is secure and password protected and I don’t download porn or anything. I don’t do anything while I’m playing actually but try to play, when it decides to let me. I check the task manager to see if anything else is running in the background, but nothing is. Last night I played for a few hours and my latency was around 130 which was great and I was pleased as punch. Tonight, I log on and it’s 4000-5000?!?!? I want to punch it!
When you say you’re on a wireless system, do you mean the wireless internet access common in rural areas or a wireless router connected to dsl/cable/fttp?
Count it down. Pull up the in-game stopwatch and set it to run. He does 10 seconds on the dot between casts when he’s above 50% HP, and 5 seconds below 50% HP. Don’t wait to see the cast, just watch the time count off and hit it then. You’ll typically have about 2/3rds of a second on the last one, which is impossible to hit if you’re waiting for it thanks to WoW server design, but it’s a fairly wide window if you’re firing on a timer.
The really easy method though is to convince a shaman to spec into Reverberation. This drops the cooldown on their spell interrupt to 5 seconds. Once they hit the first one, just mash it the moment it comes off cooldown. Ta-da!

That’ll be pretty easy considering I’m a Shaman. =P
Got two more down last night (Chaos Theory and something else, assuming I’m remembering correctly). Failed to get two I needed (Watch Him Die, because we tried to burn down the lesser adds and meanwhile a watcher died to cleave+retri aura, and Split Personality because the other shaman had never been told about “v” to show panels so he had no idea he was burning his copy down waay too fast).
That latter was interesting. We talked in circles for three minutes before he understood that was even possible as a way to display health bars. And this is a guy who had just finished a ICC10HM farming run and killed the Lich King.
I am never surprised any more by people who don’t know about arbitrary aspects of the interface (hell, I had no idea what focus targeting was until about a minute before my first BQL fight).

When I did Watch Him Die we just had the tank grab the 3 watchers plus pack and the dps zerg the boss. The boss died to a dot as I (the last remaining dps) was falling over.
Farming DK is 65 now, woo–he can gather from Northrend nodes! Haven’t started yet, though–ideally, I’d like him to be 68, so he can just fly around. I’ll be excited if/when the Cata changes goes through and you get XP from mining/herbing.
Anybody who’s got a toon in the 50s (and even 60s): for the love of god, queue for AV. You wouldn’t *believe *how much XP you get, especially from winning matches.

I know you’ve posted in the WoW technical forums–have you contacted your ISP (the company you get your internet service through) yet?

It’s one for a rural area. It’s line of sight to where the tower is. I have a big antenna on top of my roof pointed in the direction to get the signal. I’ve had it about 3 years and it’s always worked fine. I’ve seen birds sitting on it and it’s probably covered with bird crap. It’s also really windy where I live so I’m wondering if maybe the antenna has shifted a bit. The company has done ping tests and tells me that it seems to be working fine. I’ve done tracrts to the server I play on and posted it on the WoW tech forums and they see nothing wrong.
However, the rest of my internet seems to work fine so that’s why I’m very confused.

Hi SFG Yes, I have. I’ve called them twice and they ran a ping test. They said the test showed everything was working fine. I’m at the point now where I’m going to try to get them to come out and check out my system because something is obviously wrong somewhere and I cannot think of anything else to try.

Sounds like it’s basically a shared connection; you and many other people are basically using the same line. Roughly, this sounds much like having several computers in a house all connected to the same incoming Internet line, but on a larger scale — everybody getting a signal from that tower is, in reality, connected to the same line. So while there may not be anything mechanically wrong with the system, the fact is that at certain times one or more people may be engaged in large downloads/uploads, and taxing the capacity of the line feeding into that tower.
The reason you notice it when playing WoW but not when doing regular Internet browsing is that in WoW, you’re needing a constant signal stream, and when that slows down/chokes, you notice immediately. For Web browsing, you don’t need that so much, because you go to one page and once it loads you stay there for a while before moving on to the next page. So your connection there is intermittent rather than steady.
Mister Rik is right, only you’ll also run into trouble with atmospheric conditions. Those wireless systems are terrible (and the only option.) Nothing can be done.
I’m leaning towards it being something to do with my ISP. I’ve logged on with a different ISP and my latency is staying in the 100s range. I’m gonna call mine out and have them check the antenna. I am planning on moving soon anyway and hopefully have a more reliable internet. /crosses fingers.
Thanks all for your replies and suggestions.

Wow, I never thought of that at all. That makes a lot of sense. This ISP is the only one in the area that actually has good internet service. I’m assuming lots of people have it and use it. You are probably 100% right.
Well, the good news is I’m planning on moving soon to civilization where I’m sure I can get much better internet service.
Thanks for that interesting info about my issue Mister Rik. I really never thought about that before. Makes perfect sense!

Thank you for your suggestions and info too Palooka.
I can’t wait to move and get to more reliable internet providers. A WIRED one.

I got about 1/3 of level 62 in a single game on my druid. Seriously considering just abandoning Outland and pvping my way to 70. It’s tempting, but I also sorta want to grind rep with the Cennarion guys as a RP thing. Seems like a druid oughta want to be working for like minded folks as much as possible.
The other downside I see to just going pvp all the way is a lack of gear upgrades. There seems to be a cap on accumulated honor…75K. After that amount, you just don’t get any more until you spend it down. That’s why my mage has pvp mounts from all other ally races. I don’t really see buying lvl 70 pvp gear, when quest rewards and dungeon loot in Northrend will have better stats and be easier to get.
At 80, I’m gonna make the purists tear their hair again. I plan to have the druid in a full set of purples…any lvl 80 purples…ASAP. That’s doable with a combination of honor, stone keeper shards, and badge gear. Once there, I’ll switch focus to getting full T9 and PVE kit.
Can I buy game time codes (like the ones on the cards) online, and gift them to another player? One of my RP guild’s officers is currently offline because he doesn’t have the money to pay for his subscription (he recently finished school and hasn’t found a job yet), and I’d like to pay for a couple months for him. I’d like to purchase game time codes online and e-mail them to him, but I can’t even find a way to buy them online. Am I going to just have to buy the physical cards from a local store and send him those codes?
This officer also lives in New Zealand, but I don’t know if that affects whether he’ll be able to use the codes or not.

I have bought a friend game time through the Blizzard store all you have to do is gift it after you have purchased it.

PvP for leveling is a viable strategy as long as you balance it out with RDFs and quests for the gear. My latest 80, a resto druid, was resto ever since level 10, and grinding quests as a resto druid is painful. It was all BGs and RDFs, with a few quests sprinkled in (mostly, I’d focus on quest chains relating to running dungeons, since I’d end up in those dungeons anyway and those quest rewards can be pretty nice). It worked well for me because in the vast majority of BGs, I ended up being the only healer in the entire battleground, for either side, which often enabled my team to win the majority of the time, which meant more exp for me. BG holiday weekends are especially awesome exp. The WSG, AB, and AV gear is also pretty good for PvE leveling until you hit Outlands, but it sounds like you’re beyond that already. I think at level 80 my druid ended up with less than 500 quests done, heh. And absolutely no rep with anyone at all (except BG rep).
So any warlocks out there have advice on what I should be using to AoE down trash packs in instances (currently level 72, Affliction)? Should I stick with the tried and true rain of fire spam, or switch to using Seed of Corruption as my primary trash destruction tool?
And another question: with my most recent upgrade, my DK tank has dropped below the hit cap in his tank gear. Should I slot in one +20 hit gem in place of a Stam gem to get back above the cap, or just accept the occasional miss?
