Brewfest Kodo!

Hooray!

Not gonna happen. First off, beta iusn’t finished yet Second, that’s compeltely insufficient to get enough copies for sale around.

November 12, maybe. More like November 23rd, I’d say.

I believe lizardling is talking about 4.0 going live, not Cataclysm’s release, which is going to be Dec. 7th, according to MMO-Champion.

Ugh, I wrote an entire post and it went away.

I have been making what seems to be a bad assumption with my 72 Fury/Prot Warrior. I got Titan’s Grip and assumed that it would increase my DPS. Last night I was messing around and went into protection spec for the first time in 30 or so levels. It turns out that my DPS from one two-handed weapon is significantly more than my DPS dual-wielding two-handers - about 12% higher.

Trying to quest with only single wielding a two-hander in Battle Stance, I remembered that I used to have problems getting ragey enough. Is rage generation the big benefit of Titan’s Grip?

Another question I had was about quest reward gear. It seems that I get a lot of, for example, breast plates. There will be a Spell Power breast plate, which I assume is for paladins or death knights. But there are also rewards seem to be either Tank or DPS stats. Based on how much stamina or strength an item gives, I extrapolated which bonuses go with being a tank or a DPS:[ul]
[li]Stamina[/li][li]Critical rating[/li][li]Armor penetration[/li][li]Defense[/li][/ul] for tanks

and

[ul]
[li]Strength[/li][li]Hit rating[/li][li]Haste rating[/li][/ul] for DPS.

Is that the right breakdown? I would have thought that critical rating is better for DPS, but it always seems to be with the high stamina items. Does the DPS number take the other stats into effect or should I be comparing them separately? For example, if there is a 5% haste rating on a weapon, is the DPS stat going to reflect that?

Once I got into WotLK, this got a lot more complicated. Before that, I would just take the one plate item quest reward and put it on. It was always an improvement, unless I was in a zone that was too low level for me.

My first character to get a Swift Brewfest Ram from the keg - and it’s my hunter who bought one two years ago when they could be bought from the vendor during Brewfest with enough tokens. :smack:

Arms is generally better than Fury when leveling and farming dungeons until you get a decent bit of gear, so I’d switch back to Arms unless you really enjoy Fury.

I remember having quite a few rage problems while leveling, and I still do while doing dailies. Don’t forget that Bloodrage will give you a nice bit of rage when you use it, same thing with Charge.

Outlands gear rewards are pretty horrible for plate DPS these days, even some of the tank gear is itemized wrong (MP5 and defense, really?), nobody outside holy paladins will be using that spellpower stuff. I don’t remember having that much defense gear while questing through dungeons, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick it up when you can, just that it didn’t seem to have that big of an effect.

For DPS you should be looking for Strength, Hit rating, Critical Strike, Armor Penetration, Expertise.

For tanking you want Stamina, Stamina, Stamina, Defense, Stamina, Hit Rating, Stamina, Expertise, Stamina, Dodge, Parry, Stamina.

Once you hit 70, pick up a set of Cobalt tanking gear. Either from the AH, make it yourself if you’re a Blacksmith, or get a friendly Blacksmith to craft it for you once you have all the materials. It’s an excellent starter tanking set for Northrend dungeons.

I thought it got a bit easier once I hit Northrend and started questing. No more of that garbage paladin plate and plenty of choices for either my DPS or my tanking spec.
Up to 5 Kodo’s on my paladin. I really wish Blizzard would make them BoA, keep them as a single use item like the Cold Weather Flying book, but I’d really like to share the love with my alts.

Thanks for the reply, Shin Kell. But I’m still confused. Do I need stamina for my tanking gear?

I am, in fact, a blacksmith. I think I have cobalt boots and a belt right now and will work on making the rest of the set. For some reason, I just can’t find a set of blacksmithing plans that is yellow or orange for me right now and I have to level up on green cobalt skeleton keys. At four cobalt per try, it’s taking a little while. Only one more point, though, and I think I can craft the rest of the set.

Yes, the gear is better in Northend, but there are just more decisions to make. Knowing that the cobalt gear works well for tanks will help out immensely.

I read somewhere that Arms was for PVP, Fury was for PVE, and Protection was for tanking. That’s why I went into fury spec. It’s not too impressive, though. I’ll give Arms a shot (I was in battle stance before, but still Fury specced. Yeah, I’m clearly not a power gamer)

Hooray, a ugly-ass Brewfest Ram. Just what I wanted, Coren. No, it’s okay, you keep being stingy about those Kodos.

I wouldn’t think so, since he’
s talking about going to 85. That’s not going to happen until Cata actually comes out. And in any case, anything you level now will help then.

Oh, btw SFG:

Can’t really complain about Brewfest. I’d like my undead spriest to get a mount, but so far I’ve got the appropriate one for each of my characters - a kodo for my Tauren DK, and of course a sheep to keep my belf company.

Can you not roll Need on purples? If you can, since when can a Hunter not roll Need on leather or mail leggings? Seriously - I was in Trial of the Champion and since I have ( :o ) only a green, I really could have used either of those purples. :frowning:

So you’re saying it’s approprite for belfs to ride sheep?

I knew there’s been something screwy about thsoe guys since they went all emo.

Looking at the Trial of the Champion loot list (I’m assuming you’re referring to Normal mode, not Heroic), there is one leather leg piece and one mail leg piece:

Leggings of Brazen Trespass - These would be great for you, but when you join a random party through the RDF, you can only roll Need on dominant armor types. For a Hunter, that’s mail. So regardless of how good a leather piece is for you, you can’t roll Need on it. You have to Greed and hope you win or nobody else wants it.

Leggings of the Bloodless Knight - These are mail, but they have spellpower on them. Spellpower does jack all for a Hunter. They’re not completely worthless, but they’re clearly Shaman pants. One of the other RDF rules is that non-casters cannot roll on spellpower items. I honestly don’t know whether or not Hunters count as non-caster, because they do currently use mana, but they don’t benefit from spellpower at all. I’m inclined to say they are considered non-casters, in which case you couldn’t roll on these pants.

It does suck, but frankly, you’re better off with Hunter-itemized green pants than the Leggings of the Bloodless Knight. The only benefits you get out of that are the extra Stamina, which isn’t worth much in a group, and extra Intellect, which is just really minor for a Hunter.

What you’re probably better off doing is figuring out what holes in your gear you need to fill, then searching a database to see what are good upgrades and where you can get them. For instance, you need to get better Hunter legs. Normal dungeons give you level 187 blue gear and TOC and heroic dungeons get you 200 blue and purple gear, and there’s also some of each that can be attained outside of dungeons. So you’d go to WoWhead, pull up the list of Mail Legs, then search for level 187-200 with spellpower = 0. It gets you a list that looks a lot like this. The Hateful and Savage pieces are PVP, so you might not want to try for those, but you can see that there’s a mail piece that drops off Loken in normal Halls of Lightning, and three optional pieces in three heroic dungeons. You can then target those dungeons and run them until the piece drops and you can Need it. There’s also a couple of purchaseable pieces that may or may not be on the Auction House.

Yes, this is life at 80. Figure out what pieces of gear you need to upgrade, read up on possible upgrades, pick one you can reasonably achieve, and go after it. You can opt not to and just play normally, picking up pieces as you find them, but that does take much longer and may or may not be the way you want to play.

ETA: That filtered list I set up doesn’t show any pieces you can buy with emblems. You’ll eventually have a decent stockpile of emblems built up, and there’s plenty of options you can purchase at levels 213, 226, 232, and 245.

Well, seeing as there’s a metric fuckton of fanfiction out there pairing up Illidan and Kael…

Now, it really gets interesting when it’s an Illidan/Kael/Vashj threesome!

This morning, like once a week for probably a year or so now, my warlock opens the Mysterious Egg from the Oracles, and yet again gets a White Tickbird Hatchling pet. Yay. Log out.

Log in on my priest. Open the Mysterious Egg - and out pops the Reins of the Green Proto-Drake. I was so surprised that I just sat there staring at it for a while. Wow. I’ve been trying forever to get one on either of those characters, and it’s been an endless succession of nothing but mini-pets and egg yolks.

And just to mock me, my ‘bought a Brewfest ram two years ago, got one as a drop yesterday’ hunter… just got yet another Brewfest ram. Blizzard, I hate you sometimes.

Woot! Glory of the Ulduar Raider (10-man) down! Yay for finally finishing off a raid.

And Algalon (10) down as well, so yay for a new title. Starcaller Jagaya… hmm… not the best-sounding, but I’ll take it.
