New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Ah, I see the question was already answered–forgot to look if there was a new page!

BTW, I tested out my mage on a target dummy today at lunchtime, and I’m very pleased with his new improved DPS. He’s almost fully 277 raid geared and was doing around 6K on the heroic dummy with only his self-buffs pre-patch, and now he’s doing between 10K (using glyphed Fireball as his main nuke) and 12K (using glyphed Frostfire Bolt). Since he usually did somewhere in the 13-18K range in fully buffed in raids (depending on the fight), I’m quite looking forward to seeing what he can manage tonight in ICC.

Yeah, casters in generally are buffed to the point of broken at this point. And most melee DPS is the opposite (DK’s possibly excepted). Hunter’s are a bit down too, it seems. Feral kneecapped. Fury as well. Basically anybody that relied on ArP is in a bad spot today…

Oh, and if you are in a BG and see a Frost mage just run away, quickly. Boomkin too for that matter, just in case he has a lunar eclipse up.

Good to know – Looks like I get to dust off my BM PVE spec (redone, acourse). I knew that BM was going to be high on the list but I hadn’t realized that MM is now the redheaded stepchild. I still do need to learn to readjust my run’n’gun style to fit the new focus system squints at it suspiciously On the up side, I don’t seem to have the same urge to run away screaming like I did from rogues.

I need to spend some time getting used to the powa-like procs – that was part of why I never tried Surv, I admit, as I didn’t feel confident that I’d be up to the task.

I don’t think I really noticed mushiness as I was still trying to mentally adjust to the concept of regenerating focus while on the move last night (aspect of the fox can’t come soon enough). But the new GCD system does sound a bit icky since I’m one of the fellow button-hammerers especially on procs.

And thanks for the info about the new hit cap, Jas. I popped over to EJ which have a nice post thread already for MM. I see I’ll be reforging even more (and upgrading to 4pc T10 as well, omg – I have the sanc hands, so I just have to keep hoping for the legs – but I was hearing in Trade last night that Toravon had gone on sabbatical so that may be a few days)

Damage is a bit higher than it was on my warlock. Not as good at it was the last time I was on the PTR, though; they nerfed Burning Embers. But I was expecting that, so it doesn’t bother me.

All my minions changing names arbitrarily, however. . .that is substantially less cool. I’m irrationally upset over it. Especially the imp. I mean, I know it makes zero difference mechanically, but. . .that was my imp, dammit!

Should I have to re-learn my talents every time I log back in? I am also having to re-set up my action bars?

Thanks

Q

Hm. You should only need to set up your talents and action bars once, the first time you log in after installing the big patch that just went in – the patch reset everyone’s talents and action bars so everyone gets a free respec. Is this not what you’re seeing?

People can now see and use the brand new talent trees and abilities that everyone will get real familiar with in Cataclysm. However, this also means that you’ll need to tote Wolkie to the warrior trainers to make sure that he has everything they can teach because a lot of abilities have changed for every class/spec.

I forgot about re-forging equipment. How does that work? Do you have to go somewhere to do it? Does it cost money? What can you change?

  • You can only change secondary stats (crit, hit, haste, etc.) from one to another.
  • You cannot change to a stat that’s already on the item (if it has crit and hit, you can’t turn the crit into more hit).
  • You get about 40% of the original stat in the new one.
  • Forging has a nominal cost, about the same as what you’d get if you sold the item to a vendor, I think.
  • You can revert the change for free, but to reforge again you’ll have to pay a second time.
  • There are special NPCs (Thaumaturgists?) that do this.

This would have been fantastic in Lich King. Too much Holy Paladin gear had crit on it, when what we needed was haste. I’d have gladly taken some haste over a lot of crit.

What I know came from an earlier link of mine.

Hm, that’s different from my understanding. I thought if you had 100 crit and 0 hit, you could reforge to 0 crit and 40 hit, not 60 crit and 40 hit. I suppose that’s better, then.

Sorry, I can’t access any game-related sites (elitist jerks, wow insider, wowwiki etc) from work, that’s why I asked. And why I spend so much time in this thread

Note that although no existing equipment has the new Mastery stat on it (which improves your spec-specific abilities), you can reforge stuff to have Mastery.

The demon names changing is balls. I’ve had the same ones with the same names since I could first summon each one and we were like family. I even had a different voice I would use for each demon’s name.

I only got to play for about 20 minutes before it was late and I logged off but I noticed my felguard, Haaghun, (I had the best voice for his name.) was disappeared. He wasn’t a talent anymore and I didn’t see him in the spellbook.

Does anyone know how to summon the felguard now?

Summon Felguard is the signature Demonology spell, right? You should get it as soon as you choose Demonology for your primary path.

Level 10 felguards must be soooo cute.

Something to do with being able to get the GCD down to something ridiculous like zero.

Basically, there’s one chain of Riding that you’re locked into:

60% land > 100% land > 150% air > 280% air > 310% air

You must buy those types of riding in that order. However, there are two other zone-specific ones that you unlock: flying in Northrend (with Wrath) and flying in the old world (with Cataclysm, and not available yet). Those can be purchased at any point after learning the lowest level of flying and are not required for anything but flying in their respective areas.

What?! Bad e-fucking-nough that they made Ghouls wiped their names every time they unsummoned (including from mounting). Now they took away permanent demon names? I really hope that’s a bug. At least I know now not to sign into my Warlock until they fix it. :frowning:

Talents: All of them were wiped after the patch. When you set up your new trees, did you make sure to lock them in? There will be a confirmation button at the bottom of the window. If you don’t click it, your Talents won’t be saved.

Bars: Those also would have been cleared of anything that was a Talent. (Which I personally think is a stupid mechanic–they should leave the buttons there, but grayed out. But I digress.) Once you have your new Talents learned again, you’ll have to drag them back down from your spellbook to your bars.

If you were already confirming your Talents and dragging the abilities back to your bars, then I dunno what’s going on. I’ll be happy to help you get everything set back up when I’ve got a minute, but this week is busy for me, and the boyfriend is coming into town tomorrow night (hence the business).

Depending on your class and spec, however, this may be a waste of the points. I’ve heard that for Fury, e.g., Mastery is lower than pretty much every other potentially useful stat.

Gaaah! I ended up staying up way too late last night trying to get all the patching and installing done, but was finally able to log in for a few minutes. I’m really hoping I just need to readjust my video settings, because I logged in my pally, who was parked in Dalaran, and moving was like trying to walk through waist-deep oatmeal while wearing concrete shoes that had been bolted to the floor. I made a beeline (For a certain definition of “bee”, namely a 3000-pound drunken bee with no sense of direction. At night. In a blizzard.) for the Exodar portal, figuring the Exodar would be nice and unpopulated. Talked to the paladin trainer there and learned up my pally’s new skills, then poked around a bit with her talents, though I haven’t set them in stone. I haven’t actually played her yet.

D’OH! I was going to come in here and ask, “Where the !@#$ do I train Old Weather Flying?”, because I didn’t want to be the guy asking in Trade

But seriously, I mean, I open my “spellbook”, and there’s the appropriate skill with the note, “See your trainer”, which kind of implies it’s available. I was getting pissed because it didn’t specify which trainer to talk to. My class trainer didn’t offer it when I was learning my other new skills from her, though I wouldn’t expect a class trainer to offer that. I checked with the flight trainer in Dalaran, where I accidentally clicked the “Train” button for “Master Riding” and dropped 5000g in the toilet (really, I kinda wanted to wait on that since this toon only had about 7000g to start with  ). Made my way to Stormwind and rode all the way out to Eastvale Logging Camp and checked with the Riding Trainer there. No dice. Not available?! Then why the flying fuck did they stick it in my “spellbook” like that and make me run all over hell looking for it? Grrrrrrr. What, I’m supposed to read every word of the patch notes?

Yeah, kinda cranky over here.

Gonna go try to play WoW now.

Oh, on the upside, my ret pally now has about 31k HP unbuffed.

How the hell do I use Equipment Manager? They finally broke Wardrobe-AL, so I’m trying to set up my gear, and all it tells me is “no, you don’t have any DPS gear” and I’m going :smack:.

Edit: Bah, think I got it. Stupid server was crashing when I was trying to make it work.

Yeah, I had fun last night trying to dual spec.
I mean, it’s easy, right? You go to your trainer, it’s an option, there ya go.

Except it wasn’t there.

I looked around the net, maybe it changed or something; couldn’t find anything more recent than last year and it all says the same thing, See your trainer.

I asked in /broad, got a whisper telling me in detail how to get into my spellbook and where to find the tabs for the dual spec. Except I didn’t have any tabs.

After about 3 minutes of this guy probably thinking I am the dimmest bulb in the chandelier, <sp?> he finally asks “Do you even have dual spec” at which point I got to say NO, I was asking HOW to get that!

Finally it occurred to me that Mage Trainers in Dalaran are kinda loopy. Like, out of the loop; the only class trainers up in the clouds.

So I went to Ironforge and Bingo.
All that, just in case anyone else is wondering.

Oh yeah…Just did a BG, and while I’m still way undergeared <just hit 80, and TRIED to pvp like mad but only have 2 pieces of 80 pvp gear so far> I had fun in the BGs. Either people are healing again, or I’m less squishy somehow.

Either way, I am enjoying the hell out of arcane missiles finally going off fast enough to not give me the message ‘out of range’ by their end.

PEW PEW PEW!!!

Oh…and I’ve finally broken down and utilized an umlaut in order to get a name that I really, really want.

Angüa is SO ready to roar come Cataclysm.
