Going away for a week just after a patch hits is not a good idea btw. I come back and everyone has their toons sorted out except me, I think my lock was dead more than alive for last night’s Wintergrasp battle. Demo Warlocks have changed a lot and I have even more things to keep an eye on now, it was dmaned complicated before. I am going to enjoy the challenge over the next few days.
My Holy Pally has been a bit easier to get my head round even if I do still forget about the mana free heal. I am doing a lot more dps in my dailies too which is a great help, any other pallies here noticed that Holy Wrath hits for a truckload now?
My former frost DK tank is looking lost and lonely, I have no idea when I will be able to learn tanking as Blood.
Congrats to **Mister Rik **and **jayjay **on the titles, **lizardling **on the mount, **BT **on the drake, and **Ferret Herder **on the hardware.
Even on a PvP server, there shouldn’t be any reason for a Horde player to be flagged in Brill unless they deliberately chose to be. It’s entirely possible that *those *lowbies were flagged because they just ganked an Alliance toon by the Wickerman. If they wanted to be safe from PvP, they could have been.
1.) Early in the game doesn’t count, IMO, because nothing was solid yet. This is a bunch of changes after a long period of (relative) stability.
2.) Short of those early days, which I can’t comment on, there has been nothing like this, ever. The *entire *system was redesigned from the ground up.
I mean, I realize there’s a certain amount of cachet in being blase about things like this, but honestly. *Every single class *had *every single tree *completely rebuilt. The way the trees work was *completely *changed. Every single class had abilties added, deleted, and modified. Several classes had their resource systems changed in major ways. All. At. Once.
I’ve had that happen to me, too. And it’s still nothing like this, because even then you never had every single tree getting completely redesigned for everybody all at once.
Can’t you turn it off by clicking on it? Or right-clicking? I’m pretty sure you can bring up the menu option that way.
There only way to get Level 80 Epic gear by yourself is through the Argent Tournament. Everything else is going to require at least 5-man dungeons on Heroic. (Or ToC-5 or the ICC-5s on Normal, but those are more challenging than your average Normal dungeon.)
If you want to start collecting those, WarcraftPets is a good resource.
The Exo is the Draenei capital city, like Stormwind is for Humans. It’s pretty deserted because (a) it’s a pain to get to and (b) it’s laid out in such a way that everything is really spread out. But it has everything that the other capitals do: Auction House, Bank, class trainers, profession trainers, etc. The only thing that’s different is that it also offers Jewelcrafting trainers, which I believe they’ve still never added to the other old-world capitals. (When TBC came out, JC was restricted to people with the expansion, and AFAIK that’s never changed.)
!!!
Fingers fucking crossed. Whatever bug was causing the Dalaran issues was hitting pretty much everybody in my guild, me included. I can’t be in Dalaran on any toon without my framerate constantly bouncing between 2 FPS and 60+. Even after I turned down shadows and render distance. Completely fucking annoying.
From what I heard, they did. The mount is something like a 10% drop rate now.
Well, technically, bubble-hearth is a Paladin thing, and she’s a Mage.
Usually a combination of the following in Trade chat:
1.) Offer to trade costumes. (“Have Ghost and Skeleton, WTT for Wisp!”)
2.) Offer to pay for costumes.
3.) Watch for other people advertising that they have wands you need.
Too bad you missed the discussion on this. **Bosstone **pointed out a day or two before the patch that they’d changed things so that the prices would be going up dramatically, to be in line with how we’ll be earning JP at 85. (Why they decided to do that now, when we’re going to be getting 4.0.3 before Cata, is beyond me…)
That’s odd. Did you open your Honor window and look there? (Hit “h.”)
Did you check the box that says “Enable out of date addons”? It’s on the upper-right corner of the addon page, where you go to enable or disable them for each character. Some addons will keep working even when they’re “not updated.”
QuestHelper, for now, is completely broken, and it’s not going to be fixed any time soon. You can disable that or uninstall it.
It’s a very fast fight these days, and there’s just the one boss, so I’d say you’d be okay.
Not just HW. With my holy pally, I’ve noticed a huge increase in my dps from Holy Shock and Exorcism too. I ran a bunch of BGs yesterday and in my second WSG I got the achievement for doing 300,000 damage in one battle – and I was primarily healing; only doing damage if I was attacked or no one nearby was taking damage.
It was fun. I think I’ll spend the next month (1)PvPing on my pally (he only has two PvP gear items, even) and (2) grinding out some of the Argent Tourney mounts for my priest.
There’s always been a small chance of getting an extra seal in the Champion’s Purse (the one with the 10 gold in it); I guess they’ve upped that to 100%.
On my druid… and I know it’s a faceroll now with 4.0 but I really don’t care. He’s dead, yay! Got into a group with a bunch of people who had been running together for a while and we just blasted through ICC. Picked up a few hard mode kills, a few achievements, and some gear. Even got an invite to the next run.
I’m still not very comfortable raid tanking on my warrior, I keep having to move around my keybinds so I end up hitting the wrong thing. Then again I haven’t tanked much with him since the patch so that could be why. Pretty comfortable tanking with my 3 other tanks, just haven’t been able to find an ICC group yet.
Looking to get the Hallowed title on 4 characters this year and all I really need are wand transformations, except for the hunter. He needs both the pet and helm which don’t seem to exist for him. Everyone else could field an army with hallowed helm wearing squashlings. Oh and no mount on any of my 6 80s.

That’s for 300,000 damage or healing so you may have gotten it from healing. Holy Wrath does indeed hit like a truck, as does Hammer of Wrath.
Oh, no doubt, and I can do it. However, the last time I tried to solo the Commanders I was screaming in frustration because the adds kept respawning far, far too quickly. I would clear out the area, engage the Commander, and goddamned Scouts kept popping or pathing into range, or else the Commander would run directly toward one. It’s not worth the frustration for me.
It must have been a 4.0 addition. It’s certainly welcome.
Why move the keybinds, if it’s just going to result in confusion? If you want to change the setup and play around with it, though, BGs and WG are good for that. If you want somebody to talk spec/gemming/reforging/rotation with, too, I’m always here!
In terms of threat, my impression so far is that Vengeance makes a huuuuuge difference. Getting the DPS to lay off for even a couple of GCDs to let you get hit a few times and start stacking up more AP is incredibly helpful.
One note regarding this is that the Seal no longer appears in the bag but if you check your chat window you’ll see you are awarded a Seal when you open it.
Grats!
I use the method suggested here – get full shields then run through the main crowd and up the stairs until you lose aggro. Heal and refresh shields then go back down the stairs to tackle the commanders without any scouts getting in your way, if you pull more then you can handle just ride up the stairs again.
I’m jealous – the flexible raid lock system has seriously fucked over our guild as most of the people in our ICC25 were running ICC10 with their guilds then coming to ours. Our Sat ICC25 didn’t get off the ground. As I understand it, you can’t run, say, the first four bosses on 10 then start fresh on 25; you have to come in at the same point on 25 as you did in 10. We thought about doing it on 10 but the problem is that we have too many for one 10. Grah. So people are just… kinda idling until December 7th.
That said, martu, that sounds like our ret monster who was on vacation for the last month. He came back to the nuttiness that is 4.0.1 yesterday, and was all “What the hell is Holy Power? Cons is at the end of our list now? What the. Where the hell did they hide all the panes now? Reforging? Eff this, I should’ve hibernated until Cata.”
That’s what I do too. I pull the one Commander at the back of the pack up the stairs a ways and fight him on the stairs. Then I wait for him to re-pop and then pull him up the stairs again.

Most of the time I have my bar setup for 5 mans, so when it comes time to raid I have to switch around a few skills. Plus I hate the ability queue system, Sword and Board has procced, but I MUST do this other skill first! Just a little annoying. I won’t go in BG’s though, I hate PvP.
Yesterday I was invited to tank a RS25 on the warrior. I could grab and hold trash just fine as long as I had a couple GCD’s to get some vengeance going. My problem is I kept hitting the wrong button for cleave, which I’d move to my shield bash spot (I wasn’t tanking the flame wave dudes… don’t ask). Plus there are just too many buttons to keybind, so I end up clicking a few skills. Never did get to test out my single target threat since the raid disbanded once we cleared trash and got to the first mini boss (An hour to do trash… it’s a long story. Literally.).
I’ve respecced twice already. Currently running 3/2/31 with 3/3 War Academy, Cruelty for my off tier trees and 2/3 incite instead of Blood and Thunder. I skipped Safe Guard and Impending Victory. Hit capped and 28 expertise, then I reforged for a bit of mastery. Maybe I just need a bit more practice, a little strange going from tanking on the paladin/DK/druid all week to my warrior and wondering why I can’t Maul/Heart Strike/Hammer.
I’ll have to try that, I guess. I’ve got all the heirlooms I need for my Shaman, so I haven’t been doing Tourney dailies, but I could use the money and it’s about time I started collecting Tourney stuff other than heirlooms now that it’s easier to do so.
Had a really interesting WoW-based weekend. The stupid Squashling finally dropped, so I got Hallowed Be Thy Name. Also, I got roped into a For the Alliance! run, which I’d never managed to do before, so I got my war bear. That was my first true 40-man raid, and. . .wow. People are stupid. Or, more accurately, people need things repeated eleventy-billion times because they don’t listen to the RL. But I don’t care; I’ve got my bear.
I got pulled into a 10-man that was on Sindragosa on Friday. It was with my guild, but I’m not one of their core raiders–I’m new–and I’d never gone farther than the Blood Council before. So they gave me a quick explanation, and we did some attempts, and. . .boom! Down went Sindy! Which, yeah, as far as accomplishments go nowadays is kinda meh, but. . .still!
So then we put in two attempts on LK before calling it a night. And I think I didn’t completely fail overall. I topped out DPS, and I didn’t continually kill the raid! The tank did ask me after the first LK attempt to watch my threat; I’ve been having trouble with that since 4.0 dropped, since I do crazy burst damage. But they saved the raid lock, so. . . :-).
I also had to spend a ton of money to replace Sandals of Consecration with Deathfrost Boots. I’m actually kind of annoyed by that; they were much better with the old 'lock rules, but now Spirit’s useless, and the mats for that are not cheap. Even reforging only mitigated it.
Please, please, please, everyone keep posting about this to the official forums. Maybe if enough people keep talking about how much the change has hurt them, we can get it to reverse it.
What do you do so differently between Heroics and raids? The only things I ever swap are whether I have HS or Cleave bound to my scroll-down, and that changes back and forth both in Heroics and in raids.
The idea isn’t to do well–it’s just to get yourself used to the new layout without repair bills. If you go into AV, you’ll just be one person among 40, which isn’t too big a hit if you’re not contributing much.
Off the top of my head, my keybinds go something like…
1 = TC (or Rend with a modifier key, though I don’t have BnT anymore), 2 = SWave, 3 = Dev, 4 = Rev, 5 = Taunt maco, 6 = Charge, 7 = Disarm, 8 = Intervene macro, 9 = Shield Block, 0 = Rend, Tab = SS macro (includes SB), Shift+5 = HT, scroll button = interrupt macro, scroll up = SR, scroll down = HS or Cleave, thumb button 2 = Conc Blow. I know I’m missing one or two things, but that’s the general idea.
The important things that I still click because I don’t want to hit them accidentally are my SWall macro, my LS/ER macro, my trinket macro, Zerker Rage, Challenging Shout, Int Shout, and Commanding Shout.
Wish I could look at a tree right now to remember how this all shakes out. Sounds pretty similar to the spec I ended up with, focusing on single-target threat over AOE. (If you’re curious exactly what I’m using, look up Sleutel on Korgath.)
IMO, reforge all your Dodge to Mastery. The most recent thing I’ve read has Stam > Mastery > Parry >= Dodge. (Parry and Dodge now work exactly the same way, but Parry has synergy with Hold the Line, so it wins out if you have that talent.)
I can dream. Remember, they were dead set on using RealIDs on the forums until an outpouring of negative feedback made them realize what a deeply fucking stupid idea *that *was.
Later in the day I was back to lagging quite a bit when first zoning into Dal (like 3-4 fps), but once everything had a chance to load it would stabilize in the high-20s and stay there. Of course, I wonder how much has to do with the number of people with pumpkin heads — that makes for a lot fewer helms to render. And the costumes, too, eliminate a lot of items that would otherwise need to be rendered.
Because the Mac version of the new graphics engine is pretty well borked until the next point version of Mac OS X (10.6.5) updates the video card drivers, I had to edit my config.wtf file right after the patch to force the game to use the old engine. Even with that, I’m having to run with all my settings at “Low” or “Fair”.
OTOH, something changed between Saturday and Sunday. Even with low settings, things looked better yesterday. Darnassus in particular looked really stunning. I can’t put my finger on it though. Maybe something to do with the lighting.
I think Cartographer is pretty much dead as well. It hasn’t been updated since before the 3.3 patch.
I was wondering about that, since I wasn’t seeing any extra seals in the bags, but I seemed to be finishing up with more seals than expected. Still, this only means 1 extra seal for me, because I’ve had quite enough of jousting (so skip both of those) and while I’ve successfully soloed Chillmaw once (though died twice in the process), it isn’t worth the hassle.
Anybody get the impression that the firefighting daily was designed for Goldshire and then shoehorned into the other towns? I mean, in Goldshire you just have to extinguish the Inn and the smithy, and it’s pretty straightforward. But…
Kharanos and Brill: Too many obstacles and line-of-sight/hard to get in range issues.
Razor Hill: Three burning buildings to extinquish? Seriously?
Played my new orc warlock a bit last night and noticed a couple things:
Where do I check to see how many soul shards I have? I keep using Drain Soul and seeing it give me “+3 Soul Shards”, but I can’t find where the total is recorded.
I discovered they’ve moved that scorpid-poisoned troll (the one just outside Org, not the one in the starting area) from the rocks near the western zep tower - he’s now standing inside a small building a bit to the east. Good move, IMO. In his old location there was a problem with wandering scorpids sneaking up and attacking you from behind while you were talking to the troll.
Warrior changes: Yay! I just noticed that my shouts no longer cost Rage. Now I can enter combat with Battle Shout already up.
