You only get 3 shards. They’re shown right under your portrait.
Like **Tom **said, Soul Shards are now a class resource, not an item that you create. They’re like Runes for DKs or Holy Power for Paladins.
In fact, they *generate *Rage, as Bloodrage no longer exists.
I always thought that was intentional.
“Eh, Mon, you gotta help me get some scorpid antivenin.”
“Scorpids? What scorpids?”
<STING>
“OUCH! Oh, those scorpids. I guess I’ll get antivenin for both of us.”
Okay, I didn’t notice that. I noticed I was finishing fights with more rage than normal, but didn’t see where it was coming from. I’m rather enjoying being able to enter combat and immediately do something useful ![]()
Just a tip for anyone who is having issues doing the “Put the Fires Out” daily quest. The newer cities (draenei and blood elf) are easily 2 mannable. And if you have a speed boost they are eminently soloable. At least, I was able to solo the blood elf city fires as a druid in cheetah form or shaman in ghost wolf, multiple times (but not as a priest even with tricky treats, body and soul talent, and self-poison-cleansing, since they make you stop to puke too often). Whereas in Brill last night, we had 5 people and we just barely beat the timer.
So find one friend, go to the new cities, and profit! Usually there is at least one other person standing around who will help, especially at prime time.
I’d also like to note that I have the Sinister Calling achievement on each of my 4 level 80 characters now (meaning my druid got her violet drake
). I even managed to get it on 2 of my sub-80 alts who can’t even kill the HH, just from trick-or-treating. Additionally, I have the horseman’s reins on 2 of my 80s. I’m really glad they buffed the drop rates on the holiday items. And since I got the Sinister Calling achievement so easily, I’ve decided to go ahead and complete the entire hallow’s end achievement on all of my 80s. That way, a little less than a year from now I will save 15k gold by not having to buy 310% speed.
Plus, the violet drake is so gorgeous.
Grats on the drake.
I don’t know if I was doing it wrong, but I’ve gone to Falconwing Square to do the fires because it is pretty simple, but two people couldn’t do it. I was running in cheetah form myself and just steadily going back and forth, but we simply did not have the, ah, firepower. A couple more people showed for the next round and we beat it easily then.
Just a hint on the fires. Put out the high-up ones first. I noticed that those were throwing sparks that set off fires below them. If you put the high ones out first, you can do the lower ones without them restarting (unless the HH hits them again).
Okay! I’m currently running with 2/2/34, focused on survivability and single-target threat (off-tree Talents being Field Dressing and Blood Craze). Since you tend to do more casual raids + Heroics, your spec right now seems pretty optimal, assuming that you’re not dying from lack of heals (which I doubt). The only change I might make depends on where you left off a point versus my Prot tree–if you’re 1/2 Hold the Line, and your Parry chance is decent, it may be worth your while to pull a point out of something else (War Academy IMO) and make it 2/2.
Also, if it wasn’t a typo, the Dodge cap for Expertise against raid bosses is 26, not 28. Above that point it’s still useful (reduces Parry chance), but less so. Anything above 28 I wouldn’t avoid, but I wouldn’t gem or reforge for.
ETA: Handy link to my profile. Only downside being you can see the results of my reforging, but not the actual reforged stats on the items.
I can solo Falconwing Square (BElf starting town) with all of my toons, even the ones without speed boost. You have to hit the hottest fires first to stop them from spreading (and continue in order of heat – instead of hitting the same spot until it’s out), and ignore the closer building until the far buillding is completely out. Also, do everything from max allowable range. But all the other ones are ridiculously hard in comparison, even with several players participating – Razor Hill is especially pointless.

The only way to get Level 80 Epic gear by yourself is through the Argent Tournament. Everything else is going to require at least 5-man dungeons on Heroic. (Or ToC-5 or the ICC-5s on Normal, but those are more challenging than your average Normal dungeon.)
That means I gotta successfully defeat that guy in the practice joust ring before I get any other quests, doesn’t it?
Shiiiiiiiit! I was hoping I could bypass that one! I found a video on YouTube which shows how to win against this guy, but as I mentioned before, I have trouble keeping my shields going when he gets a hit in, and the YouTube video says I also need to walk backwards with my horse. This adds another difficulty I’ll have to master.
Well, back to Argent Tournament.
Thanks

There is A LOT of jousting involved in the tournament stuff. It’s kinda sad to admit but my brand new 80 hunter is doing more healing than damage in bgs, at least my spirit beast is pulling her weight i guess.
You can’t win against this guy anyway when the lag is as bad as it is tonight in Argent.
The way i did it it was very easy, they always try to get some distance on you eventually, just charge them as soon as they do and do the melee hit while they are in close range. Won every fight that way without much trouble, even used to do the quest with four fights in a row without healing.
I’ll try that, Digital C. Hopefully the lag will ease up for me a bit later tonight.

What are those spaceship-looking things floating around for?

I guess the days of my blue rested bar are over when I hit 80? Been spending the night in the inns, but I’ve noticed no blue showing.
Thanks

Once you hit 80, there’s no more EXP gain - until Cataclysm comes out and you buy and install it.
I’m not sure what you mean here.
80 is the maximum level (until Cataclysm comes out, anyway). You can’t earn any more XP because there’s nowhere else to go. So there is no rested XP, either.
Well…over until Cata launches, anyway. I don’t remember if they gave all the 70s full rested experience when WotLK launched or not, but even if they don’t do that, you’ll likley be able to get the rested bonus by logging in an in or capital city all the way to 85.
They wipe your rested exp when the expansion launches. I don’t know what spaceships you are referring too, it could be either the scourge floating bases or the horde/alliance battleships that fly around icecrown.
Yeah, Dige got it. I just always wondered if they’d ever come into play for anything.
Well, I just did the HH dungeon and got the HH “seal” “Bring me the head of oh wait” and “The mask task” from the loot filled pumpkin. I have to tell y’all though: I didn’t have any time to explain anything about myself, so I just basically ran at HH and started swingin’.
No one cursed me out, so I guess everyone was satisfied?
Thanks

PS: I’m still not doing well with the Aspirant’s jousting thing. The buttons confuse me something fierce. When I get my greens up and then charge him, I forget to hit the shield button keep the greens up and blah, blah, blech. I’ll just keep trying.
Yeah don’t worry too much about the horseman, he is very easy to do nowadays so people just plow through him basically. Probably take ya longer to explain anything than to kill him.
