New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Except for training any new abilities that are added between 68 and 78. Which I’m sure there are a few of, though not as bad as training every level. Plus, if you need to personally go to an AH, that’s an extra trip, too.

Howling Fjord was the zone I picked to start leveling my main on release day, and I’m glad I did. That first boat trip into HF blew my mind. The scenery was just amazing–I remember stopping what I was doing to just look around more than once that day.

I guess I was thinking of a catapult being more of a stationary thing and not on the back of a motorized vehicle. :smack::smack::smack:

About the “chitlins”. I guess being down south as I am, that was kind of a “conditioned response”. I was also expecting to see cracklins.

Oh, it totally was. I think I hit Borean Tundra first and had started dabbling in Northrend before I went to Howling Fjord, but even then it just left me gaping. That was really, really cool.

And I did forget about class trainers. One can only hope they’ll set up a bunch of trainers either in the BT/HF areas alongside all the crafting trainers or else put them in the rooms that held the portals.

This should be interesting. So, I was in the talent window looking for a way to rub more tasty, tasty haste all over my undead body, and I said what the heck and tweaked my holy spec to put 2 points in Darkness for the spell haste, and 1 point in Lightwell. Experimenting to see if I can train my raid to click on the goddamn lightwell before Cat hits. (I suspect it’ll be more useful then what with the heal mechanics over there)

Question for you guys, though. I was dueling a spriest friend yesterday, and it seemed to me that he was able to fear me before the duel countdown hit 2. I have a beast machine, this was in front of Org at 2 in the morning so I doubt lag was that big a factor. This happened both times we tried it. Have any of you noticed that?

Eilyssana hit 500 HKs in Arathi Basin while working on the GNERD Rage achievement. I had no idea she was even that high!
So I’ve been seeing interesting things since the patch. Last night while herbing in Icecrown I spotted a couple ghouls in The Bombardment who appeared to be tweaking on crack - they were frantically racing around, while the other nearby mobs were all moving normally. It looked pretty comical.

In that little gully leading down from the Argent Tournament to Sindragosa’s Fall, I discovered I can now see reflections in the ice - something I hadn’t seen before the patch (I have the new water effects turned off for now, so this is something different). Also in Sindragosa’s Fall, I spotted this:

Despite having done a lot of herbing in that area, I’m pretty sure I was never able to actually see the dragon skeletons under the ice like that.

They’ve definitely done something with the lighting since the patch, and it’s especially noticeable in places like Darnassus. My albino draenei warrior positively glows:

These new, high-quality shadows are so good, in fact, that they are able cast themselves through solid objects:

That’s the Cenarion Hold inn in Silithus, and those are the shadows of the NPCs upstairs — the sick, poisoned goblin, on the bed, his concerned, pacing sister, and one of the dual-bat’leth wielding nelf guards. I saw the same thing at the Gadgetzan inn, which has guards on the roof casting their shadows on the floor inside.

And finally, I don’t know what kind of good drugs this emo poet belf outside Silvermoon is on, but I found him sleeping just like this:

O dear god, he’s a mime! Somebody shoot him!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Over 5 minutes if only just.

No I was on the correct dock, even spoke to the fella there to check, I could see the Kalimdor boat on the other dock. I have used the boat before plenty of times. I was probably just impatient as it was late.

According to WoW Insider, they have indeed replaced the portals with class trainers. In the beta, anyway.

On the Beta they are in the rooms that hold the portals.

Good move. The only thing Dal and Shat don’t provide now are auction houses, and that’s mitigated in Dal if you’re a GM Engineer. Besides, bank alts should be standard practice endorsed by Blizzard anyway.

ETA: In response to Quasi.
You can only get a vehicle after you qualify by getting credit for at least 5 kills–this will let you drive a catapult. To get a Demolisher or a seige engine, I think you need credit for 10 kills.

Once you have credit (rank–either corporal or lieutenant) you get your vehicle by talking to the gnome at the counter in a workshop controlled by your team. Catapults are smaller and faster than Deomolishers or Siege Engines. I don’t care for siege engines, because they do not have a ranged weapon like catapults or demos. The primary use for vehicles is killing the horde towers when we control WG to start the battle, or to break through the fortress walls when horde controls the fortress to start the battle.

Not sure why you don’t seem to be fighting. If you target a horde player and get yourself close enough to hit him, combat should work normally…

Maybe those come off the ghouls?

That doesn’t seem physically possible. ISTM that it has to be either (a) lag or (b) a bug.

Yeah, I think it’s probably the same bug that’s making the Frostbrood Vanquishers all tweak out and fly like hummingbirds.

Oh, okay. When you said the Theramore boat pulled up, I assumed you meant in front of you. Sounds more like when I’m waiting for a bus to go to work in the morning and three go by in the opposite direction.

Now if only they’d change things so that “Soulbound” means “Can only be *equipped *by one character, but can be *mailed to/stored by *any character on the same account,” we’d be in business.

Speaking of animation glitches, I encountered a pretty consistent one in Nagrand yesterday on my mage. A few of the Nagrand quests require swimming in the lakes to kill water elementals, and when I finally got out of the lake…I kept swimming. Midair. It remained no matter what I did – jumping, mounting up, re-entering the water and leaving again, picking herbs, teleporting back to Shattrath. The only thing that cleared it was exiting the game and re-entering completely.

I did. And it was. Turned out to be a much easier fight than I expected. We smoked him quickly, and I got two achievements for the fight. Something about nerfing bombs and another one.

Sometimes you can fix problems like that by reloading your UI–but not always.

I had a similar (and very amusing) one in the beta–I was in Twilight Highlands, and one of the Horde quests ends up with you being knocked out and captured by an enemy. When they “woke me up” to talk to me, I could move again–but I was still lying down in the “unconscious” pose. Nothing I did could move me from that pose. I was running around doing quests flat on my back, casting spells, riding my mount, scooting across the ground. Even reloading UI didn’t fix it. When I finally got my fill of watching myself zipping around on my back, I had to exit the game to fix it.

For SFG: Yup, herb tracker is on. I remember to turn it on every time I go looking for plants. It’s just aggravating to see those yellow dots, ride up on them and see that you need to be a higher level to pick that one.

About the WG portal: Sometimes that thing is on and spinning about 30 minutes before the battle starts and sometimes it’s shut till right before you’re transported. Is it a daytime/nightime thing?

Oak and SFG: OK, I understand more now about the vehicles. I really need to get further aquainted with the “lay of the land” so that I can fight better. Right now I just seem to be following everyone around.

I have a couple of quests pending in WG, the south tower and one other one, so maybe tonight, my raid party will help me get those done.

Thanks

If you mouse-over the yellow circle in the mini-map it will tell you what type for herb it is.

For Quasi:

On herbalism, each zone will produce nodes for certain types of plants. What you can harvest depends on your skill level in herbalism. If for example, you’re a level 80 but your herbalism skill is only around 100, you aren’t going to be able to gather plants in level 80 zones. You will have to go back to the lower level zones to find things you can harvest, and work your skill up. Plants will show as green, yellow, orange, or red on mouseover. You can’t harvest things that show in red text when you mouse over the plant, because your skill is too low. You can harvest anything with green/yellow/orange text. You might get a skill point for harvesting a green plant, you probably will get a point for harvesting a yellow plant, and you will definitely get a point for harvesting an orange plant.

Looks like the LFD queue is bugging out, so no queuing for the Headless Horseman or any dungeons for me right now. No hits on the rare spawns in Scholazar so it looks like I get to have fun RMAing my dead motherboard today. Yay me.

Ran into my own weird glitch in ICC Tuesday, after wiping on Lootship I ran back to see no airship there. Oh everyone else was on the ship eating a feast, the feast I could see floating there in midair but not the ship or the rest of the raid. Reloading my UI didn’t help, re-entering the instance didn’t work, so I crossed my fingers and rode off the edge of the ramp… and plummeted to my death. At least it was there when I rezoned in again.

Little frustrated that I was asked to heal on my shaman last night instead of tanking all the way to the Lich King. We had a healer drop out right when we started, so the RL went through her friends list and picked up a tank. So now we’re going into LK with two tanks who have little to no experience on the fight. We never made it past the transition. Didn’t help that the RL got a little snippy when I was trying to help explain the LK fight from a tanks view since her mic wasn’t working.

Running out of names for my pets. I already have two picked out, one for King Krush and one for Loque. But I still need 1 or 2 more, any suggestions?

Alliance on Ysera suck at battlegrounds. We always lose. It kinda makes me not want to do them, but hey, I still get Honor Points and credit for kills and my equipment doesn’t take a hit. But I’ve been in one winning BG - and that was Wintergrasp, so technically it doesn’t even count on the Armory as a BG win.

BGs are even harder than usual right now. Think I mentioned earlier about how we’re between arena seasons, so all the hardcore badass pvp studs are left with only BGs to amuse themselves–and they are amusing themselves by spreading pwnage far and wide. I’d guesstimate that allies are winning maybe 1 out of 4 BGs lately in the Ruin battlegroup.

Also, read soemthing about how they are eliminating the battlegroups, going to a regional queue–like all of the US in one queue…maybe all of North America…and another queue for Europe.
