That’s been my experience in our Battlegroup, except it’s the opposite result. My horde groups have been getting crused (except, oddly, in AB whre I’ve won every time recently.)
It’s amazing what a difference gear makes. Now that even a casual player can get gear one to two tiers beyond Ulduar, a lot of the fights can be pretty easily brute-forced through.
The speed kill, probably.
I hear ya. Leveling gathering skills can be frustrating that way.
The WG portal is only active when your faction has control of Wintergrasp. If the Horde won the last battle, you won’t have the portal. But you can queue from Wintergrasp anywhere, and when it’s time for the match, you’ll get teleported straight there automatically–no need to go to the zone ahead of time.
That’s a good way to get started! In fact, that’s a pretty good way to learn any PvP area–follow other people and help them with what they’re doing.
:smack:
Not to mention, 80 PvP is completely unbalanced right now. If you get randomly assigned a weak comp against a strong one… good effing luck.
This is beginning to be a lot more fun!
Q
Now you’re on the trolley!
Man, I wish WoW had a trolley.
What, the tram’s not good enough for you?
I’ve seen two amusing glitches that come to mind. One was right after WotLK dropped. I caught a boat from SW to, presumably, the Alliance fort in BT. After our loading screen finished we found ourselves deep underground somewhere in Hillsbarad Foothills (we could see a purple dome and pine trees by the Dalaran crater which shouldn’t have been there).
The other one was by the Westfall flight master. I was there killing some attacking horde and a low-leveler came flying in from Stormwind, landed, but the gryphon animation never left and it showed him zipping off to wherever riding the frozen gryphon animation. I have screenshots of both, but no where to post em.
I think that’s a key in any battleground, especially if you’re new to them. Stick with a group and stay close. Otherwise you might get picked off by a lone rogue, which is what I look for on my rogue when I’m in a BG. All it takes is a few seconds to take someone out and then I’m vanished and gone before the group knows you’re died.
I think it’s the power of you! ![]()
Oddly enough, I’ve noticed that in WG. It seems the battles that I’m not in, we sometimes lose. Coincidence? Maybe. Over-inflated ego? Probably.
I recently found out that you can hit any attacking siege vehicle from the safety of the lower tower platforms. I don’t remember being able to do that before that patch. Anyone notice this before?
i.e. The rpg has a default distance it shoots when there’s not target. If I position myself on the lower platforms and shoot, it travels that distance and explodes dealing damage. I found it tremendously helpful when there are a ton of horde guarding 1 siege vehicle on the ground.
There’s always the thing leading up to Mimiron in Ulduar (which I always get the urge to recite Willy Wonka’s Wonkatania poem while riding (‘there’s no earthly way of knowing…which direction we are going…’)) ![]()
My favorite glitch was the time myself and a half a dozen other people were taking the zep from Grom’gol to Undercity. Just as we arrived in Tirisfal Glades, the server crashed and we got kicked off. I logged back in to find myself still in Tirisfal Glades, in mid-air…with no zepplin underneath me. I plummeted to my death, next to a dead rogue. Then… splat, splat, splat as more people who had been on the zep logged in and plummeted. Folks on the ground in Bree were laughing hysterically.
Neither of these count. They’re really more like subways. I’m imagining something that runs along the streets of a city.
Ah, yes, the ghost boat! Good times. One of the guaranteed ways to get sent there was to exploit the Death Grip bug in STV–at the end of your trip 'cross the world, that’s where you’d end up. I think that’s also where they stick you if there are any particularly weird problems with trans-continent movement.
Hah! I would have been the wag that burst into “It’s raining men! Hallelujah! It’s raining men! Amen!”
IIRC that’s related to whether your side (Alliance) has control of the fortress in Wintergrasp. If you do, the portal will be open 30 minutes before so that people can zone into the interior of the fortress. If you don’t and the Horde do, you have to wait longer like you saw and you’ll be zoned into a different area outside the fortress.
You can see who has control of the fortress in Wintergrasp by checking the map of the zone – if the complex shown at the top of the map is blue, that means Alliance has it; if it’s orange/red then it’s Horde.

Re the tram up to Mimi – I’ve only had the chance to ride it exactly three times, and each time it’s still awesome. I hope our guild will be able to run Ulduar again; I’d love to be able to down Yogg. (When Uld was new, we didn’t have enough 80s let alone geared 80s, and then TOC came out…bah.)

SFG, yeah, I’m leaning toward bug. Was surprised since I don’t think I’ve heard of it before. I’ll have to ask some other guildies tonight to see if they can repro.
Oh man, I had something like that–only it sent me from UC to… I think somewhere in the Barrens? But a ways up in the air. I *do *remember that I was lucky enough to land in water, and I know for sure it was UC because I brought a couple of the abom guards with me.
ETA:
AFAIK, the portal is up 100% of the time that your faction controls WG. Not just 30 min before. IME, it’s been there every single time I’ve needed to port to WG when Alliance has it, e.g., to run VoA.
Okay, how awesome is this? After trying every day to get the HH’s mount for my paladin and getting one Hallowed Helm after another instead, today the Loot-Filled Pumpkin dropped both the mount and The Horseman’s Horrific Helm!
Now I just wish the trick or treating would give me those last five female masks she needs. Eilyssana got all but one of the male masks last year and only one female mask.
Oh and holy freakin’ crap! She was idling in Dalaran while typing the above paragraphs, when NPCScan went off, alerting me to Putridus the Ancient (yeah, he triggers the addon all the way in Dalaran), and I was able to hop on my HH mount, race to Krasus’ Landing, launch myself into the air, fly into Icecrown, locate that bastard and kill him! HAHA! This is extremely satisfying because I’ve detected him like a dozen times previously and have never been able to actually find him before somebody else gets to him.
There must be something about that spot in Hillsbrad (or possibly the part of Alterac that sticks down into Hillsbrad). A while back I had a map glitch where the in-game quest tracker (or it may have been QuestHelper, not sure) was trying to get me to turn in a quest there … except the quest in question was one of the dailies you get on the Skybreaker airship in Icecrown.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if there was some sort of conflict where the quest tracker thought that, because there’s a portal from Dalaran to the Caverns of Time, the CoT were the nearest connection from my location in Hillsbrad back to Northrend. Because that cave is the route from CoT to “Old Hillsbrad” and all that. I only saw it that once.
Grats Quasi! :D:D

Wait, wait, your Battlegroup is actually smart enough to stay in groups?
That’s what got us in my last battleground. Everyone went off on their own and there’d be like 2 of us left to fight the swarm of 6 well-geared Horde that just went from location to location killing the fragmented Alliance people and claiming the location. Seriously, I saw the same group of Horde for the entire thing, but the difference was they always stayed together and moved as a group.
It would be so cool to have like a “CSI unit” composed of each faction’s race with yellow tape, flashlights, chalklines and bodybags show up when somebody dies from a bug or glitch…and have them chat between each other as to what they suspect happened…
Dril Drizzom: Frick, Dreg, go up in that tree and try to ID the priest and what find out what he’s clutching in his hands.
Capt. Brim Jass: Those alliance scum are probably behind this…I’m gonna swing down to Goldshire and knock a few heads around and get to the bottom of this…
Frick Beefstrokes: Well, not much of a face left, but his pet is still alive… his pet wind elemental’s nameplate is “Phlatyoulance”…hmmm…that’s Kene’s pet…he’s got a whole barn of them back in Brill…the vic is really dead for an undead…bet you that’s Kene alright…
Dregya Sandymane: Big time collector…also collects mounts too…I saw him in Ahn’Qiraj trying to 3 man his way into the lucrative Tank mount business…a little desperate if you ask me but last I checked, he was legit…
Kathinera Willowhisper: Hey, Drizzom…got 2 more flat burger patties over here…one Beef, one Orc…
Drizzom: They seemed to have fallen, but there’s no dead flying mounts anywhere around here…so how did they get here?
Willowhisper: The Blastenheimer 5000 Ultra Cannon doesn’t have that much range…
Beefstrokes: Trying the 65 yard fall achievement wouldn’t even be attempted here unless they just got back from Brewfest…but that was last month…should have sobered up now…
Drizzom: Glitch?
Sandymane: The Blizzard company did warn about a patch a couple of weeks ago that had possible glitches…
Beefstrokes: Yeah, like those cogwheels of death…very frustrating…
Drizzom: Yeah, looks like our vics have fallen on hard limestone.

First thing I thought of when I saw Yeticus’s post…
Never even saw that cartoon strip before…heh.
Well … I just did my first Wintergrasp. Fun!
I only died once, and that was simply because I got behind the rest of the group while I poked around in the fortress figuring out where the cannons are located. Once I discovered there was, at that time, nothing to shoot at with the cannons, I headed out to catch up with the rest of the crowd and ran into a pair of druids who took me down right quick.
After rezzing I caught up to the group and got into a melee battle royale, where I took almost noticeable damage thanks to some good healing around me. Made lieutenant right quick, built a catapult, and from there it was cruise to victory.
