Charge -> MS in PvP, please.
Hey Palooka (or any other raiding warlock) - is it worth using a Soul Burned Drain Life if I’m trying to maximize my single-target dps or should I stick to using Shadow Bolt as my filler when I’m not refreshing a DoT?
No idea. I haven’t cared about DPS since trying to max my I-just-hit-80 score.
…you have enough to worry about.:D:D:D
During this battle, I was lucky enough to catch a horde player and defeat them on my own 3 times. Alliance won this battle.
Up to 281 honor points!
Thanks!
Q
I don’t think there is a dungeon for Winter Veil though I missed it last year so may be wrong.
The Reins of the Headless Horseman dropped 3 times for my paladin. That’s my Holy Warrior of the Light paladin who would rather walk than ride such a mount. My evil little gnome warlock however didn’t have it drop once, damn that RNG.
I finally decided to give WoW a go about 3 months ago, and am moderately hooked. There is something about the constant progression of my character (better stats! new spell! shiny equipment!) that I find quite satisfying. Got my retribution Paladin up to level 76 now.
Not quite sure where I want to go from here. I’ve been thinking about dual-speccing, and have put some kit (+int) aside for healing. Haven’t seriously tried PvP play yet, and have only been using the dungeon finder for instances.
I don’t have any addons installed atm. Couple things I’d like to be able to do:
- Track my DPS, especially through a dungeon. Did someone mention upthread that they had something that gathered stats on the entire party?
- A simple auction addon would be good. I’d like to be able to click on an item in my inventory to search for it in the auction house, so I can check its current price without having to type its name in every time.
A couple more questions. Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can find an aquatic mount? I find underwater quests frustrating, as it’s like wading through treacle. Also, is it worth the hassle to get an extreamly (310%) fast flying mount? Am I right in thinking they are very rare?
Any help would be appreciated.
The addon I use for that is Recount.
I recommend Auctionator.
There is a very rare aquatic mount in the game, the Sea Turtle. You can get it by fishing in Northrend. Here’s a guide. In Cataclysm there’s going to be a much faster seahorse mount.
The changed the way flying speeds work in the latest patch. Before, you had to get one of the very rare extremely fast mounts. Now, any flying mount can go that fast, if you have the extremely fast flying skill. You can buy that for 5000 gold, in addition to the 5000 gold for fast flying. It gets a bit cheaper with the reputation discount, if you buy it in the Northrend starting zones, Howling Fjord or Borean Tundra.
Keep in mind though that you’re going from 150% flying to 280% flying to 310% flying. The first upgrade is absolutely worth it, as it nearly doubles your speed. The second…ehhh. You can easily make do without it; it’s a convenience purchase for the wealthy. I would put it pretty low on my list of things to do with my money.
The “easiest” 310% mount to get (to avoid paying for the flying skill upgrade) is probably the Violet Protodrake, which is the reward for the What a Long, Strange Trip It’s Been meta-achievement, which you get for completeing the meta-achievements for (most of) the holiday events. At minimum, it takes a year to get and there is some luck involved, but it’s not incredibly difficult.
Grrr. I ran HH every single day on both my 80’s and never saw the mount at all. Nor the HH sword. I did get the HH helmet, on my priest. Useless.
I’ve been doing a bunch of PvP grinding on my priest (decided to start collecting the PvP mounts). I’m regretting now getting all the healing PvP gear I have, because I’m finding PvPing much more enjoyable as shadow. I guess (since +sp is gone) that the difference is I have no spell penetration? But my resiliance is >1000 so I’m doing ok. In fact I’m thinking about redoing my Shadow spec to make it more PvP focused, since I mostly PvE as holy.
Don’t forget it’s Day of the Dead. Visit your local graveyard for holiday quests…today only, I believe.
I don’t think it’s required for WALSTIB, but it’s still fun to do, and you can work on getting up to Chef de Cuisine with the Bread of the Dead recipe.
You can shift+click any item or ability to link it in an active text box. This works for the auction house UI as well, so it’s not necessary to type. Many auction addons will make the process even simpler, so I would recommend using one in any case.
Today and tomorrow, if the ingame calendar is to be believed. And no, it’s not a requirement, it’s just a fun little mini-event. The 1- or 2-day holidays are generally not required, because people would be screaming bloody murder if they missed out on a holiday when they were out of town or otherwise unable to play for only a couple days.
Especially if they missed the holiday because the game was down for an extended bugfix/patch/server failure.
Man, I hate my server’s PvP population. Now that arena season’s over, we’ve gone from "never any goddamn horde in WSG (seriously, I have trouble completing no mercy for the merciless unless I farm the NPC Horde guards) to “never any horde, except for 5-8 guys in full Wrathful gear with 8-10 Tenacity stacks”.
For the record, I goddamn hate Tenacity, because it renders me incapable of my normal PvP strategy (namely, flit around the edges with Ghost Wolf on and then fall like a ton of bricks on isolated healers/casters/rogues.)
Another damage meter addon I would recommend (other than the previously mentioned Recount) is Skada. It tracks a lot of things, it’s easy to use, and from what I understand it has a smaller footprint memory-wise than Recount.
I love Skada so much. It works really well, and you get both a threat meter and a DPS/damage/healing/deaths/absorbs/fails/tons-of-other-stuff meter in one package. It’s easy to navigate, it’ll automatically display Threat during combat and DPS (or whatever) out of combat, and you don’t have to manage both Recount and Omen.
Or not-so-wealthy knuckleheads like me who accidentally click the “Train” button while looking at it
Fortunately, between going back to doing dailies, hitting every candy bucket, and doing some mad enchanting-scroll-making, I’ve already managed to recoup most of what I spent.
I think they went overboard on upping the drop rate on the Hallowed Helm and the Sinister Squashling. I got one or the other, or both, on almost every HH run, and way too often in the Treat Bags. My paladin got the title, but I really wanted to finish A Mask for All Occasions (the achievement for collecting all 20 Flimsy Masks). This was my second Hallow’s End holiday, and she’s still 4 masks short. I can see why they decided to drop it from the requirements for the meta. Yesterday I did my best to have her T or T every hour, and she got “tricked” every single time
OTOH, I can’t be too  because my paladin got the mount, the Horrific Helm, and two swords.
Auctioneer has a component called Informant that will show you the “Market Price” of any item in its tooltip. The price it shows is based on your last AH scan.
Speaking of Auctioneer, can anybody explain to me how to make it ignore the stupidly-underpriced auctions when calculating an “undercut” price? There seems to have been a massive influx lately of people who a) are complete noobs, b) have no idea how to use the AH to sell things, or c) are maliciously !@#$-ing with prices. No matter what I go to post lately, on any server, there is invariably somebody (usually more than one person) who has a full stack of that same item posted for maybe a few copper or silver more than they could get by vendoring the stuff. One of my lowbie toons tried to post a few stacks of copper ore, and found somebody else selling a full stack for a bid price of 1 silver, 5 copper, and no buyout price. That kind of crap makes Auctioneer useless, because I end up having to study the entire list of auctions trying to guess at an appropriate “undercut” price.
I’m also going to have to just let a couple of my created-since-the-patch toons sit for a while until they get this damned profession bug fixed. On both of them, their Skinning profession keeps disappearing, though if they retrain it their skill shows the correct number they earned before it disappeared. My orc warlock still shows she has the Tailoring profession with a skill of 36, but the icon is missing from the Professions window and thus also from my action bar, so I can’t use the skill. With the Skinning, mousing over a looted beast corpse shows “Skinnable” in the tooltip, even though the profession isn’t appearing in the Professions window, but I still can’t actually skin anything.
Heroics: I’m enjoying seeing my Fire mage finishing #1 or #2 on Recount’s DPS chart on every dungeon since the patch. Her DPS is getting even better now that I’ve got Living Bomb worked into her rotation, and I suppose it will get better still once I figure out how the new version of Combustion works.
I assume you mean WG, not WSG?
I dislike my server’s Horde PvP population because they can’t manage to ever win WG and so have to console themselves by camping the fortress between battles, killing the NPCs and team-ganking lone Alliance characters as they appear through the portal.
Also, I’d sure like to figure out what the hell that undead rogue hit my paladin with yesterday while she was trying to farm the fire elementals in there. He got me from behind while I was engaged with an elemental. I somehow managed to get out of combat, mount up, and escape, and that’s when I noticed some massive DoT making my HP drop rapidly. I assume it was some kind of poison, but the words that flashed on the screen didn’t look like poison names. 310% flight speed + Crusader Aura got me out of this guy’s range quickly enough that I could safely land and heal myself, but the DoTs had very quickly dropped me from 30000 HP to barely more than 1000. I was puzzled because, while I’ve been repeatedly slaughtered by rogues in BGs, it’s always been via stunlocks and lots of stabbity-stabbity. This was the first time a rogue just hit me a couple times and took that many HPs off me.
Get yourself an addon called “CombustionHelper.” It will track Living Bomb uptime, Ignite, Pyro, your cooldown for Combustion, and your Critical Mass uptime.
Rotation for single target should be:
- Open with Living Bomb.
- Fireball until Hot Streak procs (refreshing Living Bomb when it drops, but don’t refresh it early)
- Pyro when Hot Streak procs.
- Check to make sure LB, Pyro, and Ignite are all up, then hit Combustion.
Also, watch for Impact procs. Refresh LB (even if it’s already ticking) and then hit Fire Blast.
For AoE (watch threat, this rotation will do insane DPS):
- Blast Wave
- Flamestrike
- Living Bomb on three targets (get a macro that you can hit to tab target and hit one at a time)
- Keep doing Flamestrike until Blast Wave comes off cooldown.
- Rinse, repeat, destroy!
Also, use your Pyro and Impact procs when they come up. And hit Combustion when LB, Pyro, and Ignite are all up, each time it comes off cooldown.
I love Fire. It’s so much fun doing insane DPS again. ![]()
Are the earthquakes getting worse? seems that way to me.
