New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Thanks, jayjay. I went back to Tanaris and the Dune Maul trolls, and it looks like I can get this nexrt level of First Aid right here, because they’re respawning just right so that I can just run from one to the other and get my cloths, not, as you said, every time, but enough so I don’t have to travel elsewhere.

Thanks

Q

Ogres. Ogres are the best source of cloth, in my experience. I mean, they all wear this great big loincloth…

Did it ever occur to anybody else that the whole cloth thing in WoW is backwards? IRL, you start with a bolt of cloth and you cut it into pieces. In WoW, you collect pieces and somehow or other reassemble them into bolts. Not really sure how that works…
On another topic, after the run my paladin did today through Halls of Lightning, can I just say that devilsaur hunter pets just don’t belong in dungeons? Please, please, please, put that thing away and summon something smaller. It’s just … completely in the way of everything.

Well that’s interesting. It looks as though they decided to do something about people parking their mounts on the special event questgivers: Blood Guard Torek and Earthmender Norsala in Orgrimmar are solid. As in, you can’t go through them.

About damn time.

But they haven’t fixed the mailbox problem. One of those big mammoths gets in front of one, or a dragon with drooping wings, fuggedaboudit,

Also, somehow I have stumbled upon a quest which states “requires heroic difficulty”. That’s not something I can do, right?

Back to the cloths: As I said I’ve been making mageweave cloths into bandages, but when they get made, they appear in my bags. So what should I do with them - because I’m mostly solo, do no dungeons, so I don’t really need to heal anyone. Keep them and heal myself when I need it?

Thanks and good night!

Quasi

I think this has been replaced by Gatherer 2 after the 4.0 patch. Basically, it displays herb (and mineral) locations in your map and mini-map. To use it properly, you need to download a database of all the drop locations.

I know it seems obvious that the DPS will do more damage per second than the tank, but it isn’t, so don’t use that as a yardstick in raw form. A palatank doing tons of damage while escorting Artie Slowpoke around Strat? She better, I’d be worried if she didn’t!

Spent the weekend glyphing up the stable; the three mains are all glyphed up and I’m now working on the rest. So it was a weekend of my warlock smelling the flowers, doing quests (it’s a good way to make me dash all around a zone, instead of following specific paths) and signing up for PUGs as a way to break the monotony of the flower-picking. And I went and 'chanted her up, too, which I hadn’t bothered to do on account of “it’s not like I play her in groups, other than for laughs with friends”… Between the enchants, a few new items and poking around the spellbook, overall DPS has gone up a good 20%, but it still felt strange the first time I could see that I was capping the DPS.

It’s been no surprise, but I’m all blue (:() that they’re allowing race transfers from the start. My worgen will be holding onto that fancy top hat for dear life as a way to say “Born to howl”, but there isn’t an equivalent item for goblins, is it?

Mageweave: the furbolgs in the southern part of that ugly rotting forest, the one north of Ashenvale and south of Moonglade and west of Winterspring. (Can’t remember the name, and I’m at work).

Yeah, I’ve seen those consistently. Freaks me out now and then since I usually see them on the periphery of the screen and I’d forgotten they were there until I go back with a new character.

Nava: Felwood.

For PvP problems there is always a PvP solution SFG:smiley:

Hi and yes I am on Azuremyst.

The Jewelcrafting market has absolutely tanked on my realm, I think people are spending their Justice points on the raw epics and cuts are now about half price. I don’t think I’ll hit my target of 50k gold before cata hits now, bugger.

Anyone else finding the cultist quests a bit, well, dull? 13G a pop not to be sniffed at mind you.

Moonglade (Alliance, RP server), The Sha’tar (Horde with the same guild as in Moonglade, RP server) and C’Thun (Spanish, PvP server) say I play in European servers, yes. I have a couple toons in a French server as well but those only get trotted out when I feel like getting a dose of Frenglish.

Just sell them to a vendor or put them in your guild bank for others to use.

To rephrase (for civilized people…) what Palooka said farming for this cloth is probably not the most efficient way for you to get them. Let’s say you farm for half an hour and get 20 mageweave cloth. In that time you could have done 3-4 Daily quests getting you 40-50 gold which will probably buy you more mageweave cloth at the Auction House, it goes for 12-15 gold for a stack of twenty on my server. Hey if you’re enjoying the farming no need to stop but I thought I’d mention it.

Borean Leather tanked on my realm. I used to get quite a tidy sum, now I can’t even get anyone to buy any! The loot tables favor me for Frozen Orbs though, so I’m still making some monies.

There is no Gatherer 2. Gatherer is being properly maintained, and the current version 3.1.16 is compatible with WoW 4.0. I’ve used it more than once in the last week.

I was about to argue with you, but I realized you’re right. So I stopped, because arguing when you know you’re wrong is pretty lame. I’m married, so I know this first-hand.

Anyway, I think the “2” being thought of is Gathermate2. At some point in the misty past I switched from Gatherer to Gathermate (incompatibility with the rest of my addons, I think) and then had to migrate to GM2 when GM got deprecated for the 4.x release of WoW.

Aha, that looks like it. Mystery solved.

Yeah, healing yourself is basically the one and only reason to raise first aid and make bandages. If you mostly solo you’ll get plenty of use out of them.

Though, honestly, at max level you’re going to do better with food than bandages. I really hope Blizzard keeps the max-level bandages in Cataclysm useful.

Quasi, another good place to farm Mageweave is in the Hinterlands. In the far southeastern side of the zone (take the main east-west road through the zone all the way to the end) is a huge troll temple, several stories tall, crawling with trolls who drop mageweave. They’re non-elite (so easier to kill than Zul’Farrak) and there are so many that the ones at the bottom will respawn before you kill the ones at the top, so you’ll never run out.

Although, you said you didn’t want to do a lot of travelling. They don’t call it “Hinterlands” for nothing.

Well, it took a while, but my gaming PC is finally repaired. Needed a new motherboard and a new graphics card when all was said and done (and new memory to go in the new motherboard…). Then I had to reinstall Windows 7, and my applications, and games. But at least I’m able to play WoW properly again (versus ditzing about on our family laptop).

Had a strange thing happen on Sunday though. I was doing a heroic run of Forge of Souls, and we wiped on the last boss (except for the healer who ran away). After the healer returned and resurrected us, my character was kind of … stuck is the best way I could describe it.

  • I could move my character around with my mouse.
  • I could talk (via keyboard) to the other members of the party.

But I could not:

  • activate any of my abilities, whether via keyboard or clicking on the icon with the mouse.
  • get healed by the Shaman healer. She said “He’s showing up twice in HealBot”.
  • teleport out of the dungeon.
  • log out of or exit the game (I could bring up the menu with the ESC key, but nothing happened when I clicked on the appropriate buttons).

Eventually they had to kick me from the party (at my suggestion), and I still couldn’t teleport out of the dungeon, log out or exit the game. Eventually I had to just close the WoW window entirely. When I logged back into WoW, none of my characters would load. I’d select a character, the loading screen would appear, the bar would fill, and then…nothing.

So I deleted those three folders that Blizzard tells you to delete when you’re having ‘stuck character’ problems. Still no luck. So I ran the repair tool; it didn’t say what problems it found, but it did say that it repaired World of Warcraft. Don’t know if that’s just standard boilerplate or not.

So I restarted the game through the launcher, and the launcher had to re-download about 2/3rds of the game client. When it finished, several hours later, I was able to log back in successfully and access my characters (although my one character was now dead outside the entrance to the Forge of Souls…)

Strange. I hope whatever happened isn’t a chronic problem.

Well, there’s also the Stocking Up achievement
Ever make some exciting discovery in WoW and can’t wait to share your discovery, and then you wake up and realize you only dreamed it? Yeah, last night in my sleep I “discovered” that my draenei mage could walk freely, unflagged and unmolested, through Orgrimmar as long as she was wearing her cultist disguise. And I was hoping there would be at least one more quest that required that robe so that my paladin could put it on and walk into Org to go fishing for The Fishing Diplomat. sigh

I’m currently kind of pseudo-playing. The first few paychecks after we bought the car have been very thin on the discretionary spending (I think I had $11 left after everything that was already allocated (rent, food, car payment, car down payment installment, doctor visit copay) was gone. So I canceled my account, which was due to auto-pay on Saturday. By about noon on Saturday I was already jonesing, so I figured out how to keep playing until my next paycheck on Friday…I made a Gmail account and signed up for a 10-day trial under that.

I don’t have BC or Wrath, I can’t join a guild or talk to my real-account guild, I can’t really do a whole lot, but I can play, at least! I’m taking the opportunity to level a couple of Alliance toons (haven’t played Alliance in a long time).

I’m getting Cata from supervenusfreak as a Christmas gift, but that’s a wash on the money side since I’m buying him gifts, too.
