Huh. I also had a strange death experience on Sunday. My mage died on the trash right before Trollgore in heroic Drak’Tharon Keep after an overenthusiastic pull. I saw the healer (also a shaman… hmm) was busy trying to keep everybody else alive, and since we were still close to the entrance I decided to just release and run back. So I clicked the Release Spirit button … and materialized in the graveyard alive and at full health, rather than as a ghost.
Then, like a bonehead, I mounted my flying carpet and flew back into DTK, but flew too high and got auto-dismounted once I was in the building (but before the instance portal) and fell to my death.
I’ve encountered a frequent bug/glitch in dungeons. After the run is over, I try to teleport out of dungeon, and it tells me I can’t do that when I’m dead. Sensible, I suppose, except that I’m not quite dead. Feeling much better, actually. (Sorry, unable to resist a bit of Mel Brooks). So I’m fully alive, vibrant, able to run, talk, cast spells, etc. Just can’t leave the dungeon. In most places, this is a minor annoyance, I can just run back to the entrance, and leave that way–which will return me to wherever I was when I accepted the dungeon group. But that one dungeon…the one with Haddrox, and then you jump down that hole and fall a looooong way, then fight the last boss in a circular cage thing…yikes. Only way I have found to get out of there is hearth stone on my druid, or portal on my mage. Have noticed that sometimes leaving the group will teleport me out of the dungeon, but only if I am not the last person to leave the group…
Looking at wowhead it would seem that the highest level bandages will heal 4375 health per second while the highest level food will restore 3200 health per second, so bandages will be worth using.
Personally I’m still amazed that Quasi managed to get a warrior to level 80 without using any bandages, when I leveled mine I used one almost every time the cooldown was up.
Also of interest…I read somewhere, probably WoW Insider, that the next stage of the cataclysm events will probably be starting soon. Maybe today or tomorrow. Dunno what it will be, but hopefuly something more interesting than the last one. Arresting cultists was pretty dull. I did not roll a cop.
There IS a door out of Azjol Nerub if your hearth is on cooldown and you get this bug; I think it’s on the other side of the ring from the way you come in to fight the last boss.
Hi! Welcome to WoW. [del]Moohoohahahahaha[/del] We’re so glad to have you.
Like people have said, you want the Gatherer addon with the Wowhead database. You can download both of them here. Once they’re installed, you’ll need to go into Gatherer (right-click the minimap button and click Config) to load the database (there’s a tab that’s something like “Database” that will bring up a window with an “Import” button. There’s also a HUD that you can turn on when you’re actively farming and off when you’re questing–if you find that you’ve got flowers showing up over the main screen (i.e., your character), Ctrl+click the Gatherer button to turn the HUD off.
Note that you don’t need the database–it just makes your life easier. If you don’t load the DB, Gatherer will simply remember the nodes you collect yourself (and, unless you disable the feature, the nodes you get from your guildmates and partymates who also use the addon).
The big three sites you will want to bookmark as a new player, which have been mentioned by a few people:
1.) Wowhead: This is a massive database of items, quests, NPCs, etc. If your question is something like “where is this person” or “this quest doesn’t make any sense, how does it work” or “what are the materials I need for this recipe,” this is probably the first place to check. There’s a similar site called Thottbot, but it’s older, the interface isn’t nearly as nice, and the comments are more spammy and less useful. I never go there anymore unless Wowhead is offline for upgrades.
2.) WoWWiki: A WoW encyclopedia. More useful for lore questions, profession guides, etc.
3.) WoW Insider: A WoW blog (the WoW blog, really). They have articles that are targeted everywhere from brand-spankin’-new-nooblets all the way up to hardcore endgame raiders.
Congratulations!
No. Prior to 4.0, Arms outperformed Fury at lower levels of gear, and while the reasons are different now, I don’t see that having changed. The hitcap for Fury is massive (27%) and you need to get pretty close to it to perform well. You also need to dodge-cap Expertise. Arms, on the other hand, uses the single-wield 8% hitcap, and you aren’t required to dodge-cap Expertise, because you get a lot of damage from Overpower, which can be triggered by an enemy’s Dodge, and itself is unavoidable.
The best ways you can improve your DPS are the same as ever:
1.) Make sure your spec is optimized.
2.) Make sure you’re focusing on the right stats for your gear, including how you reforge/gem/enchant.
3.) Get comfortable with your ability priority/rotation. This includes applying DOTs like Rend–I’m not sure how it works since 4.0, but clipping (reapplying too early) used to cause a drop in DPS.
You’ve already said you’re reading EJ, which is really the best thing you can do. The Warrior FAQ thread especially is great for getting everything you need to know in a nutshell.
Magic, of course! Haven’t you noticed that most tailors are mana-users?
The reforging guy in Dalaran is this way, too (the other reforgers may be the same). I’m not sure if there’s official word yet on why these NPCs are being treated like different game options than every other NPC.
I can’t think of any alternative but that it’s a five-man dungeon or a raid. There’s no “Heroic difficulty” for solo content. So, nope, that’s one you’re going to want to skip for now.
Isn’t there a bike mount that can only be gotten in the Goblin starter zone?
They’re pretty tedious, I agree. Two causes that I see:
1.) They’re designed to be accessable to all levels.
2.) We’re still in the early phases of the event; there’s a blue post that things will be ramping up as we approach the Cata launch.
Woohoo! As for the problems, it sounds like your WoW got corrupted somehow. Could be a fluke, or it could be a sign of a deeper problem. Fingers crossed on the former.
I’m truckin’, I’m truckin’…grumble That achievement is taking forever.
You know what else is taking forever? Getting my Explorer achievement. I can get 110% land speed with my BM spec, but I miss 280% flying. Also, Searing Gorge can SUCK IT. The only place I hate more is Hellfire Peninsula.
My warrior was doing DTK last night, and somebody asked me, “Are you an Arms warrior?” I answered affirmatively, and the person said, “Cool, you don’t see that much any more.”
Also, kind of nice that my warrior only had to pay 500g for the Titansteel Destroyer. My paladin had to pay 1200g for it way back when. (Also, it was nice to discover that, along with weapon training disappearing, so did warrior 2h weapon specialization (that is, she no longer has “Poleaxe Specialization” - she can use all 2h weapons equally. So when there were no 2h axe upgrades forthcoming when she hit lvl 80, she could switch to a sword or mace with no penalty.)
My main is an enchanter and made a Berserking scroll for my warrior, and I’m a bit disappointed to see that Berserking apparently has no special graphical effect on the weapon (like Massacre on my paladin’s axe makes it all red drippy glowy). Or is the effect simply being hidden by the Titansteel Destroyer’s inherent “glow” effect?
I suspect it’s because they’re “limited time only” NPCs. They don’t want people getting screwed because every time they log in there are people blocking them.
Also on the topic of people parking on top of NPCs and the common NPC-blocker response of “QQ moar, it’s just a game!”, I saw a sig quote over on the official boards that neatly addresses this: (paraphrasing) “Would you stand on the Monopoly board and wipe your butt with the money? Why not? It’s just a game!”
I meant to address that earlier - I suspect Quasi came across one of the raid weeklies, or at least one of those quests handed out by those archmages in the Violet Hold. I seem to remember them having the “heroic” qualifier on them.
The consensus seems to be that I’ll just have to practice, practice, practice to get my DPS up. No problem. I did realize that I hadn’t re-glyphed since the update, but it doesn’t look like the lack of glyphs was my problem. Also, I don’t know if Auctioneer is going crazy or not, but it showed *every *glyph in the AH as being at least 350% of the average price.
I doubled back and got all the quest completions achievements in Northrend for the places that I’ve been already except for Zul’drak, where a stupid quest that makes you ride around on a storm giant has pissed me off enough that I don’t want to go back there. Wowhead has a bunch of ideas to help out, but I still can’t get it right.
I also did a Stockades run to gather wool cloth for first aid leveling. And, I decided to try out Blackrock Depths solo so I can finally get up to exalted with Ironforge. Unfortunately, I can’t find my way around in there, so I’ll see if my husband remembers it enough to be a tour guide.
What would be the best way to break into tanking again? I wasn’t bad 40 levels ago, but haven’t done it since. Is it fair to join a random when I am still working on my skills? My guild is pretty much made up of five people and their alts, and none of them log on this server very much.
If Auctioneer is basing that on the pre-4.0.1 prices, then that’s accurate - glyph prices shot way up after the patch since nearly everyone needed to re-glyph themselves to at least some degree. They’ve sunk some since then, but I guess not all the way back down.
On tanking: you could try queuing for some of the lower level Northrend dungeons, and then explaining to your party that you’re getting into practice; nobody’s going to kick too hard about having a level 80 tank even if she does play like a noob. Also, soloing level 60 dungeons (like Stratholme) is a good way to get used to the rotation.
I totally skipped that on my main, as well as the Betrayal quest. I ended up doing the Ampitheater of Anguish quest chain to fill out my quest total in Zul’Drak. Bring some friends for that one.
Like **Tom Scud **said, it has to do with the Glyph changes in 4.0. Now, we learn glyphs permanently and can swap out any glyph on the list of the ones we know anywhere, as long as we’re out of combat and have the reagent, so a lot of people wanted to stock up on every single available glyph for their class–even if it was one they weren’t going to use a lot.
My first suggestion would be to group with guildies or friends, but I see that’s not much of an option for you. I think **Tom **really nailed it: solo content until you feel comfortable with your priority/rotation, then queue only for lower-level regular-difficulty dungeons, and warn your party that you’re getting back into tanking at the beginning of the run. A /p macro would be very useful here.
Glyphs now cost 3x as much to make (except for a few that still seem to cost one ink, for some reason), so an increase of 350% over pre-4.0 is perfectly reasonable.
It’s a car, and unfortunately you don’t get to keep it. You get to tool around in the coolest mount ever (well, almost) for a few levels, but shortly after that (no spoilers) you really don’t have much need for it anymore.
The regular Goblin mount is a trike.
In other news…I tanked a level 85 heroic this weekend! Shadowfang Keep, as it happened. And it was a lot of fun! The first boss, especially, is tough tough tough, and will be pretty much impossible to do without a team with solid interrupts. But the whole experience was really cool (it was my first heroic, other than an abortive attempt at Stonecore a week or so ago) and I’m so looking forward to it in Live. They did a really nice job altering Shadowfang–same geography but completely different bosses.
Speaking of Goblin trike mounts, can those be purchased by other races who achieve Exalted rep? And if so… I wonder how you would go about grinding that rep; I’m assuming you can’t go quest in the Goblin starting area as a level 85 undead.
