I did not know anyone lower than 80 could queue for the bosses. I can see where a tank that low could be problematic. Not sure why anyone would queue as a tank below 80 for something like this. Just queue as DPS.
I am sorta tempted to queue as a tank on the druid, just to see if I can do it. My dual spec is bear, and holding aggro on a single target isn’t difficult…might try it if the game will let me play tonight.
I’m starting to think the miniboss queues are not looking at people’s gearscore to try and group like-geared people together. Several times I’ve had level 79s in a group and also tanks that have less than 30k hp buffed or dps that does less than 2k on a boss fight.
It’s fine, I’m able to make up for it and keep everyone healed, but it makes it so much longer. Going in with a premade is definately a good idea.
Okay guys! It’s time for my quarterly ‘look at my Armory and tell me why my DPS sucks’ query!
My rotation is Serpent Sting, Arcane Shot, Chimera Shot, then alternating Steady and Arcane until cooldown on Chimera is done.
GS is 4559, working on getting last 2 pieces of T10.
DPS varies a lot because if I’m in a group that’s got really good gear and skills I’m not going to be able to make as many shots because all the mobs die so quick. So going off of bosses where I actually get time to do my rotation a couple of times, averaging 2200-2400 which is crappy. Usually puts me in 4th unless the tank isn’t doing much DPS.
Not a hunter, but looks to me like your neck, Horseman’s Seal, and both trinkets need replaced. +Int does nothing for hunters anymore, as far as I know.
Also think hunters may be kinda broken since patch 4.0.1 . Haven’t seen any of them put up impressive DPS in heroics lately.
An actual hunter will be along shortly to explain how wrong I am.
OK, so for MM, you have a few issues with your rotation. Specifically “alternating Steady and Arcane”. You should always be firing Steady twice in a row, in order to keep the Improved Steady Shot buff at all times (or as close as possible). Although, I now see you don’t have that talent full… this is a problem.
I also notice armory has no glyphs listed - do you not have any? Or is it just another armory bug. You want Arcane, Steady, and Kill Shot most likely.
Only use Aimed Shot when you get a proc for a free one. And keep Serpent Sting up at all times. Also remember to use Rapid Fire (it’s on a short CD for you with the talent). Use Readiness to use it again. The haste is huge for being able to use more big-hitting shots, but remember to always cast those SSx2 to keep up the ISS buff.
Gear-wise, you have plenty of spots to upgrade before I’d worry about more T10. The JP trinket is actually pretty decent now, so I’d get that. Neck - consider buying a Wodin’s if it’s available on the AH for a reasonable price. Oh! And use your JP on the 264 cape - that 183 one makes me cry…
Gemming: don’t use haste gems. All AGI, or AGI+Crit for socket matching. Don’t use Stam gems - they’re useless. It also seems a lot of your stuff is un-enchanted - that will go a decent ways to getting your DPS up. At least enchant the 251 stuff (armor kit for the legs, Sons of Hodir for the shoulders).
I wouldn’t worry too much about min-maxing your gear at this point in the expansion, but that’s some stuff to think about.
And yes, hunters are pretty low right now - but I’ve seen good ones still pulling >12k in ICC, so it’s not terribad (if not ridiculous like casters are right now). A lot of it has to do with learning an entirely new play-style - decent hunters are suddenly bad hunters unless they put in a lot of practice.
I think Jas09 hit everything on the head, particularly the ISS buff for marksmanship.
I would add that you can get a little more flexibility for the spec if you drop ‘Marked for Death’ (lame, in my opinion) and get 1 pt of rapid killing (great for grinding / dailies), and silencing shot.
Another change you can make is to make sure your pet (I guess you use ‘Chubbs’ most?) has all 3 points of ‘culling the herd’.
I got on last night (in Cairne, after 10pm PST), and found that they fixed the trapped citizens in TB, but there wasn’t enough of us at either TB or Org to finish off the rifts in order to get to the instances.
Okay, I need to read up on my Enchanting. The only time I’ve ever come near it is Disenchant rolls.
Not all sockets have AGI or Crit, that’s why I went with Haste. I thought Haste was really important?
I do have a couple more glyphs than what the Armory is showing - I think my other two are probably Arcane or Steady, and I think I have something with Serpent in there somewhere.
Blizz is a for profit enterprise. Happy players keep paying monthly fees. Like it or not, there is a marketing strategy involved with expansions and pre-expansion events.
For enchanting - I searched Sons of Hodir on on Wowhead and it came up with these - are they what you mean by enchanting the items? Do you need to be an enchanter to use them? Or is the point of becoming an enchanter being able to do stuff like this without having to pay so much for the item enhancement?
As I understand it the current rule of thumb for hunter gemming is AGI in all red sockets. AGI/Hit in all blue sockets with decent socket bonuses (until hit capped, and even then you can re-forge hit to mastery). AGI/Crit in all yellow sockets with decent socket bonuses.
You should have enough haste from gear to not need to gem or enchant for it.
This is all very minor stuff compared to the big gearing holes you have right now (back, neck!!, trinkets) and the problems with your spec and rotation.
You may notice that both of your trinkets have the word “spell” in their description - this is a very bad thing, and will only lead to grief.
Plenty of heroic bosses drop better trinkets than those, not to mention the JP ones (Mirror of Truth, Mark of Supremacy, Herkuml War Token) are all massive upgrades (and Darkmoon Card: Greatness (AGI version) would be as well, but is still kinda expensive).
For shoulders you want Greater Inscription of the Axe (assuming you are exalted with Sons of Hodir). You do not need a profession to use them. Scribes actually get a cheaper and better version of them, but they only work for scribes.
For legs you want the Icescale Leg Armor - it is created by Leatherworkers, but you do not have to be one to use them (LW get a much cheaper version of the same thing for themselves).
Headpieces take “arcanum” - for a hunter you’ll want the one from the guys up in Icecrown… Arcanum of Torment.
Enchanters can enchant your other gear (hands, cloak, feet, chest) - either by asking one you know or buy putting the enchant on a scroll that can be bought in the AH. Enchanters also get special enchanter-only ring enhancements.
I would not spend big gold on enchanting or gemming any items that you will quickly replace (which, quite frankly, is everything right now save maaaybe 251 or higher stuff). Cata is in 3 weeks… You will get way more bang for your buck by upgrading your gear at the spots mentioned.
My point was that these events are not freebies from Blizzard hoping people will buy the expansion. Of course people are going to buy it! They will buy it because of the future content they are going to receive not for a few cheap baubles that will be replaced on launch day during a transitional event.
The Wodir neck thinger isn’t on my AH at all, but luckily, this is from the elemental invasion and I’ll do that damn battle over and over for an hour to get it.
Wodin’s necklace has been absent on my AH scans too, since shortly after 4.0.1 dropped. I suspect it’s related to how everyone I know running ICC every week has remarked that they haven’t seen any BoEs drop in there since 4.0.1, as well.
