It looks like the CoT portals do still exist. It’s just the city portals that were removed.
HP went up, but boss attacks didn’t. Depending on what kind of gear this guy has, it’s entirely possible that he’s geared perfectly fine for Heroics, and the problem is that he’s pulling too much and/or the healer is undergeared.
The whole point of FoF is that DF works during it, IL does more damage during it, and your instant FFBs do more damage during it if you have BF. Blizzard is notoriously terrible about making their tooltips inclusive and logical. Based on the way they’re written, it’s entirely possible that
They fucked up Mage glyphs really, really badly by misclassifying a bunch of them; I wouldn’t have put it past them to have also fucked up some important talents.
However, I do have confirmation from the WoW forums that Shatter and Frostburn work with FoF *for any ability that has FoF synergy *(DF, IL, and BF FFBs). That is absolutely not “written right there in the talent [tooltip],” regardless of what Talent you’re talking about.
Actually, I can’t remember if there are any. Don’t forget that there are BOE 264 Plate DPS boots.
Ahahahahahaha. Out of curiosity, did you mouseover to see if it was an actual Blood Elf and not someone using an Orb of the Sin’Dorei?
IMO, check out the Cata profession bonuses before you make a decision. I know they’re adding a bunch of goodies (including a multi-passenger flying mount for Alchemy), so that will probably influence things a great deal.
If you need to farm high-level mats, I would strongly recommend leveling a DK. Otherwise, you’re going to run into a wall with Cata mats: you can’t even enter the zones until you’re 80. A viable alternative would be to farm and sell in-demand low-level mats and then use the proceeds to buy high-level ones, but that’s still much easier on a character that outlevels the zone (especially one with a speed-boosting talent like On a Pale Horse).
It’s useful when Briarthorn is selling for the same price on the AH as Dreamfoil, or better. Especially with people leveling Goblin and Worgen alts, there’s going to be an explosion of demand for low-level mats in the expansion.
Really? That’s a default UI thing, and not the function of a mod? If so, that’s awesome. I constantly swap out Heroic Strike and Cleave when I’m tanking so that one or the other is keybound, and it’s a pain to have to lock and unlock.
Personally, I’ve also changed the keybind for locking and unlocking my bars so that I can do it quickly when I need to but have a minimal chance of unlocking them accidentally (it’s Ctrl+Shift+A).
Have they said yet how they’re confirming it? I looked this morning and I didn’t see a cite. I’d like to know where it falls on the scale ranging from “Blizz publicly announced that the patch is going live, and here’s the blue post” to “We flipped a coin between this week and next week and it came up heads.”
What dailies are you doing that you’re going back to the old world? The only one I can think of is the Mysterious Device turn-in.
FWIW, when I get home, I think I’m going to pull my Argent Tournament tabard out of the bank and set my hearth to Stormwind or Ironforge. I’ve never been so glad my other 80 is a Mage… or so pissed that you can’t port characters on your own account (if I could, I’d server and faction xfer her in a heartbeat).
I assume you meant Thunder Bluff ![]()
IIRC, TB’s feast area is at the bottom of the main elevators.
I’ve already got it on my main, so I’m not going to bother on my other toons. I’d forgotten how irritating the quest “chain” is for the holiday cooking dailies, at least on the first day where they give you both a “make and deliver 5” and a “make and deliver 20” quest for each dish. I remembered after my third trip from SW to Darnassus.
The elemental invasion made the whole thing a real pain for the level 22 warrior I rolled on Ysondre, a PvP server. While he had no difficulty riding through SW during the invasion to get from the front gate to the harbor (never got attacked by an elemental), coming back was a problem. His hearth was set to Lakeshire, so when he finished in Darnassus he hearthed, then flew from there to Ironforge, where the invasion was still “underway”… sort of. Looks like Ysondre is one of the servers where the event is bugging and no elementals are spawning from the rifts, so the only thing to be done was wait for the timer to run out and the NPCs, including the Flightmaster, to reappear. So I ended up turning in the IF quests and then riding all the way to freakin’ Thelsamar in Loch Modan to get a flight back to SW.
Strangely, I’m not seeing Mixology listed anywhere on my paladin after I power-leveled Alchemy. I’m getting the duration-increasing effect, but it’s just not listed anywhere.
:smack: My wife is from Thunder Bay, Canada and we go there often so I tend to make that slip pretty regularly.
Yep, that’s where I was looking – they weren’t there, but there were a bunch of players hanging around.
It’s not so bad if you’re levelling cooking at the same time (since I’m making about 60-70 of each dish). But I don’t really have the stomach for killing all the turkeys within the time limit thing (too many other people doing it at the same time) or sitting at all the opposite faction tables and dealing with all that travel and PvP hassle. I’ve got it on my main and that’s good enough.
I probably will. I’ve already invested a lot of effort into Inscription, but the increased mat costs are making 385-400 kind of a slog.
I’m actually figuring on removing my Druid from raiding, so now that you can track multiple things, I think I’m going to drop Blacksmithing (which hurts after all the work I put into it) and take up Herbalism instead (he currently has Mining). I’m planning to go Mage for ranged DPS and Shaman for healing/melee DPS in raiding, so the Druid can supply them with mats. Either that or I will go Marketeer and buy mats and sell crafted stuff.
I don’t know about MMO Champ, but WoW Insider is confirming it, and AFAIK they’ve never been wrong. Pretty sure they have inside sources they won’t disclose.
Did you check on the Professions tab? All the profession-related abilities have been moved there.
Talking about my mage, not my paladin or warrior, but there are also 264 dps crafted cloth boots out there.
Squeeeeeeeeeee!
Erm, no, that totally wasn’t me making that noise. Harrumph.
Have they said what this mount is yet? I’m picturing a floating bubble that engulfs you and your passengers and floats them away…
I was so glad I have a max-level Herbalist (my mage) to help out my paladin’s new Alchemy. I’m also enjoying my warrior being a max-level Miner - she had all the mats my paladin needed to transmute Nightmare Tears, and now she also gets to mine and smelt Saronite Bars, mail them to my paladin, who transmutes them into Titanium Bars and mails them back to my warrior, who turns them into Titansteel Bars.

4. Profit!
Erg, yeah. When I got to the stage of leveling Alchemy where I needed Briarthorn x40, I checked the AH and there was almost nothing there, except for a few stacks of 1-6 pieces, and one guy selling a stack of 10 for over 200g. Yeah, I’ll go pick my own, thanks.
It used to be on the General tab of your spellbook (the top tab, with a foot-inna-boot icon, for some reason). If it’s not there, I’m sure it’s on the Professions tab as **BT **suggested.
Some of the raw mats might even go for more. Hell, if you wanted to go really nuts, you could make all of your money just by playing the AH.
I don’t mind them saying “confirmed privately by anonymous Blizzard sources.” It’s when they say “ZOMG ITS GONNA DROPS!!!” without saying *how *they know that bugs me.
ETA@MisterRik:
Whoops, I just assumed it was the Pally and was too lazy to scroll back to confirm. You should do the event bosses–one of them drops 251 Cloth boots. If you check the Armory for Smarati on Eldre’Thalas, you can see all of the drops she has from that (I think it’s chest, back, feet, neck, and one ring; one or two pieces had Spirit, but they were better than what she was running with previously).
The Alchemy mount actually transforms you into a fucking drake and the passenger rides your back. \m/ It’s completely fucking awesome.
Looks like they’re basing it off the announcement of extended downtime.
Yeah, I didn’t see it in either place. Weird.
This time, it really is me saying
SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!
Yeah, I ground through the whole Crusader title thing on my third 80 specifically so all my 80s would have that tabard and reasonable access to both Northrend and the rest of Azeroth.
In which case, I’m not going to believe it until I see something more official. I mean, not that I won’t take appropriate actions just in case, like moving my hearth, but.
Did you look, like, five times? Seriously. If you’re anything like me, it’s entirely possible that you’re looking straight past it. I do that sort of thing constantly (which is especially obnoxious when I’m trying to, say, rebuild action bars, and it takes me ten tries to find a particular abilitiy).
Pics or it didn’t happen. ![]()
P.S. I just did a quick Google search for alchemy mount and I turned up this video.
Jaina’s locket from LK is looking a lot prettier, too… at least for the last couple of weeks before Cata.
I got my very first title yesterday: Omathra the Explorer. I saved the easiest parts for last and just flew over Northrend after I wrapped up the last few areas in Kalimdor. Some of the Northrend scenery is really striking, especially in Icecrown. I love the quarry and the dam.
My husband has been bugging me to try heroics now that I have an 80, but I was hesitant because of my low DPS (1100ish) on the last couple of dungeons that I ran. But, I’ve been working on my rotations, I blacksmithed an uber mace, and he had guildies who were willing to take on some dead weight. So, I went. One dungeon was cool, but another one sucked bad - you have to fly drakes around and kill a dragon. Ugh. I couldn’t see anythign that was going on.
I got a little bit of gear improvement from it, and my DPS at one point was att 1680, so that was reassuring. I still am too uncoordinated to run heroics without a party that knows what it’s getting into, though.
My blacksmithing is at 446 right now, due to a buying spree in the auction house. I’m starting to wonder if I should bother bringing it up to 450 because the top end gear will be overpowered soon enough, and in my experience you can level skills a lot easier and cheaper at the beginning of an expansion’s skill range rather than the end of it. Mining is at 450, so I will be able to get the raws for at least the first half of the next range fairly easily.
Is anybody else having bad luck with PUGs for the elemental event? I think that non-tanks are signing in as tanks to get more runs in and the rest of the group suffers for it. One healer (had the Kingslayer title, so she must know what she is talking about) was saying that the tanks weren’t holding aggro and I would get one-shotted with the mini-bosses.
Nobody likes the Oculus. Nobody. And if someone says they do, they’re lying.
Well, remember, 4.0.3 has to go live before Cata, and Cata’s coming a scant two weeks from now. SO, this is right on the expected time zone for rolling out the new patch.
Also, got into Sartharion for the first time (and maybe the last!). That’s a fun fight - 10 men and all the Twilight Drakes we can smoosh! We got the achievs, all right - with barely 2 men standing. One actually survived. I’m not sure what went wrong withthe early part. I tanked an elemental and the first Drake add, while the DPS burned Sarth down insanely fast (I think this was a sub-1 minute fight). Suddenly I saw people dying, but no fire or anything. Maybe a healer bought it before anyone could react. I was keeping aggro on my adds when suddenly smash I’m dead.I figured it was a wipe, but I’m glad I stayed to watch, because it was insane seeing the players drop like flies but asplode Sarth like a pinata.
Re: the portals, I’m glad I’ll still have my Kirin Tor ring. I don’t wear it any more but the port to Dal will be even more useful now.
Well damn. I might drop Herbalism for Alchemy instead of Inscription. That’s badass.
Just in time, too! Now you can point to the date on the Achievement and tell all the Cata newbies how you rode all over the world back when it was hard and you had to do it on foot. ![]()
If you, with 1100-1600 DPS, are pulling off the tank, they’re definitely doing a *terrible *job of generating aggro. I do more than twice that DPS in my tanking gear *before *Vengeance starts stacking.
FWIW, Kingslayer doesn’t necessarily mean the person knows what they’re talking about. People have even paid for *Heroic *Lich King kills–it’s even easier to get carried to a 10- or 25-man regular kill.
Oh shit, I forgot about those rings! I’m pretty flush right now since I’ve been saving for leveling expenses… On the other hand, it’s only two weeks, and I think both my DPS rings are high enough level now that I wouldn’t actually use the ring as gear, even if I upgraded it as far as it will go.
Yeah, I have better rings for use as gear (the Exalted Ashen Verdict ring and an ICC-10 ring I think) but the free port makes it worth carrying the ring around. I wore the ring a long time so it was worth the 6k g at the time (IIRC); I don’t know if I’d spend that much for just the porting use.
