New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Crossed SMV off the Loremaster list. However I ran face first into a rather nasty bug out there in Netherwing Ledge. Apparently while you’re under the influence of the Dragonmaw Orc shapeshift, it’ll automatically remount you on a Drake. And I mean automatically. You can’t even finish casting a spell before bang, you’re on a drake again. I found this out when I was trying to kill Vhel’drak. Trying being the operative word due to this bug.

That said, there’s three reasons I’ll be heading back after I clear the last 3 zones in Outland: The netherwing grind. The David Wayne chain. The Teron Gorefiend chain (but only when they’ve fixed that gd bug).

Rik, you still have people who clear the elemental invasions? I’m jealous! On my server, people have quit doing it. Which sucks for people who could still use the items. (I’m looking at you, tank who needed on the plate dps chest. Grr.)

Uh. You might also wanna start saving for that alchemy mount though. I’ve heard it’s going to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 24K. Twice what the hog costs, IOW.

Fingers of Frost was implemented two years ago. It allowed mages to benefit from shatter when it wasn’t possible to use nova, either because the boss didn’t allow it, you didn’t have a pet, your allies did too much damage, or you didn’t want to scream out “Push Spell Reflect now!” before gibbing a warrior with a shattercombo. The Fingers of Frost talent used to say that it treated targets as frozen. Every function requiring a frozen target worked, like one would expect. It still says that. It’s point back then was to enable shatter when you couldn’t freeze someone. It continues to serve that purpose; they just changed it from everything to only instants.

There isn’t some mystery that needs confirming. The mechanics of the talent are well established. Nothing indicates that they may have changed. I don’t know why you’re ignoring the two years behind the talent. Cataclysm just brought a simple change to the eligible spells.

Here ya go!

/blownaway

I like it, except for when I zone in and other people immediately zone out.

I dunno! I asked that question about…well, maybe a dozen pages ago? Ha ha. I can do it before Cata drops if I try really hard, I just have Kalimdor left. Most zones I have a huge chunk uncovered, I just need to run around and find the places left. But Azuremyst and Bloodmyst were freakin’ painful.

OKAY SO HI THERE GUYS

I’m going to try and tame the spectral cat and bear in Northrend. My two main pets are, coincidentally, a cat and a bear. Their names are Chubbs and Welcome. I want to keep a naming scheme - some variant on Chubbs is very important to me for my kitty.

So help me name my new pets! Granted I get them, anyway. Ewww taming level 77 enemies.

Especially with only two weeks to Cata as of tomorrow.

I am reasonably sure that FoF changed in 4.0–IIRC, it used to affect *all *spells, not just the handful that it now does. (For example, FB used to consume FoF charges, and it was actually better DPS to cast FB during FoF than IL.) It now *specifically mentions *DF and IL, and BF *specifically mentions *FoF. **That’s it. **Neither Shatter nor Frostburn mention FoF, and FoF doesn’t mention either of them. It’s a mechanic change that was not well explained via documentation (tooltips), and while it would be fairly stupid to change it so that FoF-activated IL/DF/FFB didn’t benefit from either Talent, Blizzard has made stupid class changes before, and they will do so again.

At the risk of sounding like a Junior Mod bitch, I think you need to check your attitude at the door of this thread. The arrogance and disdain you frequently post with are both unhelpful and unwelcome.

Aaaaaaaaaaaahahaha, you just made my afternoon.

We could use you in Cairne…Burning Dog Legion.

Ok, besides the Hearthstone, we have the Argent Tabard that teleports you to the Tournament Grounds in Northrend, and the Rings of the Kirin Tor that teleport you to Dalaran. If I set my hearthstone to Orgrimmar, then I have two different ways to get back to Northrend. Is there any other items that can teleport me back to a major faction city and/or Outland? Is there a list of items readily available that have teleportation abilities? I think I need one more item so I can reduce the turnaround time to an average of 15 minutes. I tried to look in Wowhead, but was unsuccessful. Also, can you buy a different Kirin Tor ring that has it’s own individual cooldown or are they on the same CD timer?

I never purchased any of the Kirin Tor rings, but it looks like I should at least purchase the first ring of the series. Trying to save gold for Cataclysm…21,200g and counting.

Well, there is still the portal in Dalaran that will take you to Caverns of Time, and the Gateway in Sholozar Basin that will take you to Un’Goro Crater if you’ve unlocked it. Although admittedly neither of these are really convenient to any old world cities (but it will be a little better once you can fly).

Are the Dark Portal ports at the city portal trainers still going to be up? No problems going to Shattrath, then…just go through and take a taxi at the Stairs.

Uh, Yeti, Gnoit is in the BDL; he’s Ghastliar the DK. And we haven’t exactly been burning up the raiding scene lately, not that that’s surprising with Cata just over the horizon.

That’s also the super-secret shortcut from any capitol city to Org (or Stormwind): take the portal from the city you’re in to the Dark Portal, go through, and then take the portal to Org/Stormwind. I wish I had remembered that when I was stuck in TB the other day.

If the rings work like pretty much everything else in the game, they’ll share a CD.

Besides the portals already mentioned, there are also profession-specific options. A Scribe can make scrolls that teleport them back to their hearth location; and Engineers can make a couple of different teleportation devices that take them to Northrend or Outland.

Gnomish engies get: Gadgetzan, Blade’s Edge Mountains, Northrend wormhole
Gobbies engies get: Everlook, Netherstorm, Northrend wormhole

There’s also those slippers that drop from the opera event in Kara.

But they might have only taken you to to your hearth location, and they might’ve shared the hearth cooldown at that. Though i’m not sure and can’t access wowhead/wowwiki at work.
Edit: ooohhh if you were around in vanilla and lucky enough to get the drop from Naxx40, wasn’t there a staff that ported you to Karazhan?

I thought Mosier was Ghasliar…did you/he change your/his Doper name? If so, I need to make a change our our BDL 10man list.

As for items that are able to teleport…as a Belf Ret Pally with JC & BS, looks like my options are few.

Medivh’s staff itself, but it’s no longer in the game.

ETA: Here’s something from Wowwiki.

Huh, I have no idea. Could be I was hallucinating that.

Check out the fancy-dancy Potion of Deephome.

I don’t remember those at all, but that sounds awesome.

Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian. I believe it came in various flavors for different classes. It’s a Legendary item, and, as **BT **observed, if you didn’t get it before Naxx40 was removed, you’re SOL now.

Yeah, the Ruby Slippers dropped from the Oz incarnation of the Opera event. They did share a cooldown with your regular hearthstone. Basically they were just a sparkly hearthstone that you could wear, so as long as you used them in your gearset, you could get rid of your hearthstone and save one bag slot.

Ugliest damned Legendary in the game, if you ask me. They’d better make the new caster DPS Legendary a lot nicer looking. I don’t want a skinny coconut on a stick without even a decent glow, thanks. The Kara port would be nice, though, for my horse-farming.
