I don’t think that was the entirety of the conversation and I certainly don’t agree that it was off-topic, but out of respect for my Horde brethren I’ll drop the line of thought - it was merely something to distract me with the day before Thanksgiving.
I’m still bummed about losing out on <Champion of Ulduar> because of one death to Mimiron on Monday night when a head-tank didn’t catch a heal (and yes, I was that tank).
At least there are new shiny things to keep me occupied until Dec 7.
Some guildies are still working on Bane attempts (one group got the kill a few times, another stuck at 20% or so), but I’m just not into it anymore. I think I’m just gonna wile away the time PvP’ing (hopefully they fix Isle, Strand, and AV - unkillable bosses are bad…) and maybe doing some questing in the newly modified zones.
For what it’s worth, I had the same problem in Zul’Drak while my mage was farming herbs to send to my paladin for her Alchemy. She had been in Grizzly Hills, and then flew into Zul’Drak, and BAM! Instant FPS drop from 30+ to around 11.
I’m more annoyed by the lag in Elwynn Forest - if that keeps up it’s going to make leveling a human a royal pain. Dun Morogh doesn’t seem to have the same problem; neither did Westfall or Lakeshire. I notice the tree trunks in Elwynn are more textured than they used to be, so maybe it’s that, combined with the sheer number of them being rendered at once that’s causing the problem.
Also, lots of turkeys spawning inside tree trunks in Elwynn.
I had a level 26 dwarf hunter I hadn’t played in forever, so I deleted him and rolled a fresh one to level from 1 in the post-Cataclysm world. The lack of trash drops kinda rendered those 4 Frostweave Bags I mailed him pointless
OTOH, those bags were helpful while I ran him around doing the Pilgrim’s Bounty dailies.
When I took him to Darnassus and got off the boat in Rut’theran Village, I spotted the Fishing trainer right there and availed myself of his services, but then Nessa Shadowsong right next to him wouldn’t sell me a fishing pole, or anything else. Had to wait and buy one from the Fishing Supplies guy in Exodar. I noticed Darnassus was undamaged - I guess Deathwing can’t fly that high? ![]()
I wondered about that - did the loss come from certain achievements being converted to Feats of Strength? My paladin had 5050 points before yesterday; now she’s at 4900-something.
I’m a little bit annoyed about being “retroactively” (or would this be “proactively”) credited with some of the new achievements, specifically the one for going around and viewing specific sites of devastation. My main has all the exploration achievements (aside from the “kill all these rare spawns” ones), but that doesn’t mean she’s seen the devastation sites.
I’ve got an in-game friend who was annoying the living crap out of me last night to the point that I had to stuff him into his own chat tab and put it in the background. He, for whatever reason, decided he needed to collect all of the new FPs on his main, and in the process was reporting to me on almost every single new thing he came across. And he has a way of phrasing things in such a way that it’s clear he’s expecting a response. You know how little kids will say, “Guess what?” and then will absolutely not continue until you actually say, “What?” Yeah, like that. He’ll type half of a thought, and then won’t continue until you reply with … something, anything. At one point I did ask him, “Dude, are you trying to see everything on the first day?”
I reported somebody for spamming Dalaran last night, and had to open a ticket to do it because they weren’t spamming a chat channel, they were laying down literally hundreds of Fish Feasts. So for about 15 minutes the chat window was a solid wall of:
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Playername has prepared a Fish Feast!
Aside from the spam aspect, the sheer wastefulness was pissing me off.
On the matter of people doing the mounted AFK thing on top of questgivers, I’m not going to bother reporting them to GMs, since the response is too slow for it to do any good. I’m just going to take screenshots to record names and guild names, then send mail to their guild leaders commenting on how that behavior makes their guilds look like a bunch of asshats.
If it’s nightmarish torment, why don’t all Forsaken kill themselves as soon as they’re raised?
What if the person taped some pencils to a ruler so they could push down buttons on multiple keyboards at the same time? Or if they designed a custom keyboard that lined up, say, all of the number rows together, so they could just run their finger down the "1"s?
And what makes two players on one keyboard okay? After all, they have an advantage over just a single player–no risk of tunneling on a boss, since the person in charge of movement can just watch for things they need to run out of, or to.
We are talking about the game. If this is not an aspect of the game that interests you… as my grandmother says, “TS.” Last I checked, the title of the thread was “General Discussion Thread,” not “Only Stuff **Skammer **Finds Interesting Thread.”
Hrmmmmmm, that is odd. I got nuffin’. Something that can help you find vendors to sell trash and repair your gear at, though, is to use the tracking option. If you click the magnifying glass icon on your minimap, there should be an option that’s called something like “Repair.” If you check that box, you will get icons on your minimap that show you were repair vendors are. (IIRC, the icon looks just like the anvil you get when you mouseover a character who can repair.)
If that were the level of discussion that were happening, you’d have a point. But it’s not, so you don’t.
ETA:
Bingo.
FYI, you can turn this off in your chat window. The setting is something like NPC emote.
Reporting them to their GMs is good, but only if the GM gives a shit. IMO, keep opening tickets. Just because their behavior isn’t dealt with that second doesn’t mean that it won’t have a cumulative effect–if they do it often enough and keep getting reported, they’ll get escalating punishments that will eventually culminate in the account being banned.
For Rik:
When I wrote last night that my lag was non-existent my fps was 68. Yours was much lower. Does that mean that you get some kind of signal, like the numbers turn red or something?
I have never gotten that signal and always thought the HIGHER the numbers the better your fps. I know that sounds funny, but once my fps was 168 and I had lag like crazy. Falling into canals, bumping into shit, etc.
Thanks
Q
PS: Went to see Heather. Looks great now!
My guild spent last night rubbernecking at everything we could find.
There’s a ton of new achievements that you can get.
One odd thing though: I have Loremaster of EK and Kalimdor, but none of the new sub-achievements in those are lit up. And while I already have 2000 Quests Complete, the total amount has dropped rather drastically thanks to the world going boom.
I’m rather annoyed that the goblins in Org are merrily polluting away and letting the oil slick sail downstream to the troll section. Shouldn’t the goblin shama-- er, environmental engineers – be telling the others not to do that?
Also, Garrosh setting up right in front of the front gate… that’s a very Garrosh like thing to do, IMO. Set up camp and dare anyone to do anything about it.
These are related. The quests have apparently radically changed; I perused all of the zone-specific achievements on my 80 and the most quests I had for any one zone was 17; most were between 0 and 4. I had exactly one zone achievement, Ghostlands, and that’s because the BC zones weren’t changed. If a quest was removed, it no longer counts to the total count.
There are actually two different measures that can give you insight into the game performance: FPS and latency (aka ping). FPS is better the higher it is (more frames per second = smoother animation); latency is better the lower it is (lower ping = less time for your computer to talk to the server). Mouseing over the little computer icon should give you both numbers.
IIRC from skimming over some of the lore for the class/race combo, they’re not that connected to the elements in the same way Orcs and Draenei were–it’s just another tool.
Three Birds of Prey, one fox, and one monkey later… I’m down to 5 stable slots. Two are reserved so that leaves me with three. I’ve not decided what to fill them with, but I’m sure something will catch my eye.
They need a /whee emote for the goblin rocketway, or just add the rocketway to every zone with a long ride between outposts.
Time to hop on my baby rogue and check out the new troll area, it looked really nice when I rode by earlier even caught a glimpse of several troll druids, they aren’t as ugly as I thought they would be.
Right, it’s sort of like the Blood Elf Paladins. They’re not working in harmony with the Light/elementals, but rather bending them to their will.
Eh, whatever. I’m signing off in ten minutes for the next three days, so hopefully you’ll have moved on when I get back.
Oh, you’ll see LOTS of Troll druids in the baby troll zone. I was in two different pick-up groups of five for the two mini-bosses, just to avoid spawn-camping each other.
Well, I also play on a Macintosh computer instead of Windows, and Blizzard introduced a new graphics engine for the Mac version of the game that is still not working entirely properly due, apparently, to some communication failure between them and Apple. New video drivers in the latest Mac OS X update were supposed to fix the problem, but they didn’t. So in most places I’m getting between 20 and 40 FPS, and sometimes it spikes as high as 80, and other times it drops as low as 4.
Remember there are two kinds of lag: server lag (something is slowing down communication between the server and your computer - your latency number will be high) and graphics lag (your computer is having trouble rendering everything quickly enough - latency may be low, which is good, but the fps will be low, which is bad). Basically, you want to see a low latency number and a high FPS number. My latency is almost always very low, under 100ms, so almost all of my lag is purely graphics lag. So basically, I flew into Zul’Drak and there were things there that my computer had trouble rendering quickly enough. All the mist and smoke and vapors floating around that zone probably had something to do with it.
Is that really what they’re calling themselves? If so, cool. That’s similar to the gnome priest trainer I found in SW’s Dwarven District. Her name was “Chief Surgeon Gashweld”, and she was holding what looked like a tricorder ![]()
I’m glad my main already had The Seeker title!
I didn’t say it was the forsaken who felt the torment. No nerve endings, see. It’s just everyone else who has to put up with their shit…
Bwaha ha ha! Oh, you are too cute. Just wait until my Worgen emerges from GIlneas. I am going to tear your faces off for daring to harm my people. Having never offered you any offense, and having defended Lordaeron when we were under no threat, having fought alongside the selfish, arrogant elves, we are betrayed. Sylvie may think she’s Queen Bitch of the Universe, but at the end of the day she and her forsaken are nothing more than the miserable refuse of the world. They fully deserve the hell-fileld shadow they will be dragged into when we kindly slaughter the last of you filthy pusbags.
You want to know dark, my dear undead chew toys? Just wait until I show you Dark. You are weak, weak little things. You surrendered to the Dark. You broke. But we Worgen are not so weak…
I can’t wait to get out and start taming on my Hunter! I’m just sad that she’s got such a further slog to get to Beast Mastery now.
Well, when I log off today, I probably won’t be back on at all until Monday, either. So no help there.
It’s really a matter of whether other people are interested in continuing the discussion. It’s not like I’m just going to rant about it on my own.
Silly question time - how do I get to Northrend now that Menethil harbour has taken a header?
The ships still come. The town is flooded (except for the keep) but the docks are still operational (they float now).
ETA: And there IS a ship to Northrend (Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra) from Stormwind Harbor.
And remember, get there early for the best place to stand, 'cause those ships are quite crowded these days and also watch that holiday traffic!![]()
(I try to be the last onboard, go up the steps part-way and turn Silka around and travel that way, making us first off the boat. I learned that from another gamer!;))
Luckily you won’t have to go through one of the TSA pat-downs - not that they’d find much anyway with all your armor!
Quasi
I also wanted to mention - regarding everyone’s loss of honor points - that I chatted with a GM a few nights ago after opening a ticket (she reminded me that this was the second time I had opened a ticket about the same thing, and I told her, “Oh! See, I thought y’all fixed it the first time and now it’s happening again” ;))
Anyway, before we ended our chat she offered to put my points back. Apparently they can keep up with the loss of points somehow, but cannot fix the bug?
Thanks
Q
Thanks. Went all the way to Menethil harbour and turned around when I saw the state it was in, didn’t occur to me to check the docks. :smack:
It was a bad night for the animals of Sholazarr Basis, as I was farming meat to level my cooking in preparation for Cata. Man, the WWF is going to be so angry with me…
