New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

adhemar, what is your character’s race? If you’re a night elf, you should automatically have the Rut’theran flight point - it was the default Darnassus FP before the Shattering, and you always automatically “know” your own race’s capital city FP. In that case, you should be able to hop on a hippogryph at the Lor’Danel flight point and go to Rut’theran.

If you’re not a night elf, I suppose it’s possible you took a boat from Stormwind (if you’re human, dwarf, or gnome) or from Azuremyst Isle (if you’re dranei), and that would have put you in Auberdine. To get to Darnassus the first time after that, you would have needed to take another boat from Auberdine to Rut’Theran, but if you aren’t a night elf and you never did that, you indeed wouldn’t have the Rut’theran flight point. And if you were logged out in Auberdine, you would have woken up after the Shattering at/near that refugee camp behind the now-ruined Auberdine and, I assume, made your way up to Lor’danel.

My night elf druid happens to be there as well, so I checked it out. You’re right, there doesn’t seem to be a boat that goes to Lor’danel. I actually don’t see any way to get from Darkshore to Rut’theran without flying now. You seem to be well and truly stuck (if you’re not a night elf). In that case, you have three options that I can see:

  1. Quest in Darkshore until you’ve leveled up enough to move to another zone

  2. Find a friendly mage who would be willing to come to Lor’danel and give you a portal to Darnassus

  3. Submit a ticket to a GM and explain the situation, and see if they’ll move your character over to Rut’theran so you can get the flight point there. Make sure you get the flight point in Lor’danel first so that you can get back.

Damn, Oakie! I AM sorry! I’ll keep trying.

Sorry!

Q

I have zero problems making toons to help other folk start guilds, I used to do it all the time for folk from other games. And my sweetie routinely puts up with my asking him to log in the only toon he has on my server, just so he can invite my alt-of-the-week to my guild.

So if you’re stuck for signatures, Quasi…or anyone else…just let me know!

Ok, now I’ve gotta check it out.

Gee, I wonder why my mage is suddenly my ‘main’ now…

Okay, adhemar, I asked around over on the official forums, and I have good news for you: the flight connection between Lor’danel and Rut’theran Village is “automatic” now - you don’t need to have visited both in order to fly between them. So you can escape from Darkshore!

I assume you can find the Lor’danel Inn, since you said your hearth is set there. While inside the inn, on the ground floor, point yourself due West and exit the inn via the West entrance. Look to your left. You’ll see an elevated wooden dock-like platform with a ramp leading up to it. Go up on the platform and talk to the white-haired elf lady standing between two hippogryphs (the big bird things). This will bring up a map, and it will show your current location with a green marker. The green marker will be connected by a black line to a silver marker over on the big “island” off the coast. That marker is labeled “Rut’theran Village, Teldrassil”. Click on that, and off you go. When you land, just walk through the pink glowy portal, and you’ll be in Darnassus.

When I first started playing, I didn’t have anywhere near enough RAM - playing in areas with busy graphics was like playing through powerpoints. One of my first characters was a Nelf rogue. So, I’m in this valley, killing your spiderz, and I see a branch that leads out and, having the basic mindset of “if it’s there, it must be investigated”, I slide up it, slide slide slide and then… I did say graphs were jerky, right? Yeah, then I went aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! and before my toon’s scream ended in a SPLAT, exclaimed “bloody Hell, it’s a fucking tree!”

So yeah, it was a big damn tree before; it’s only that if you got to see that it… didn’t end too well…oops

I love the quests in Searing Gorge, got a screenie of Sassy dancing in coyote form with three iron dwarves and an ogre - it was one of those moments when you find yourself saying “and me without a (video)camera!”

That reminds me of the time I went splat there. Except that there’s no way to unsplat other than using the spirit healer.

Just for kicks I rolled a baby Troll last night up to about level 6. My first druid, although she’ll probably go on the shelf once I roll my goblin shammy next week.

Anyway, I like the streamlined troll starting area in Echo Isles but my favorite part was watching the confrontation between Vol’jin and Garrosh. Vol’jin pretty much threatens to slit Garrosh’s throat while he sleeps :).

Yeah, I did a little bit of /cheer-ing at that part…

retracted…missed the post where the guy said his hearth stone is set to Lor danel. Ouch. If he happens to be on Elune, I can run my mage down there to port him out…

My one time falling off the tree was way back when I was a new player, playing my first night elf. I had died close enough to Darnassus for my spirit to appear at the graveyard inside Darnassus. I had never “visited” that GY before, wasn’t sure where I was, and of course this GY fit with Blizzard’s tendency to stick night elf GY’s in awkward spots where there’s only one way out and it’s always in the opposite direction from your corpse. So of course I picked the wrong direction to go … and my wisp sailed right over the edge of the tree. That turned out to be an even bigger hassle than falling to my death - had I fallen while still alive I could have just clicked “Release” once I hit bottom and been sent to the graveyard. But since I was already dead when I fell, I had to slowly make my way over the water from about the northwest corner of Teldrassil, following the “coast” all the way around until I finally got to Ruy’theran Village, then up through the portal, all the way through Darnassus and out the front gate to try to find my corpse.

I think “Getting stuck in the rift in the Barrens” is going to be the new “Fell off of Teldrassil”, as far as rites of passage go…

I did deliberately jump off Teldrassil once.

I appreciate you checking, but when I tried that it told me I didn’t have anything that connected to that point, I will try again tonight but i think I am just screwed here.

@ Oakminster, I am guessing that Elune is the server? I don’t think I am on that one but I will check tonight and let you know. I appreciate the offer regardless.

I did try swimming to Darnassus and yep i died about 3 quarters across

I am human warrior level 17 and came on the boat from Stormwind before the last change.

Yeah, those quests were fun. I used to hate Searing Gorge (I pretty much hated that whole area over there–Badlands/Searing Gorge/Burning Steppes) but they’ve really streamlined the quest chains and made the process a lot more fun. Loved the Lunk quests. “Spider Tummy Time!”

I take it that since you’ve done Searing Gorge, you’ve finished the “Rhea’s Last Egg” quest chain in Badlands? I am just the biggest softie ever–the end of that quest chain and the reward made me tear up a little. That item is going in my bank once it’s not useful to me anymore, and I’m *never *going to sell it or delete it.

Yes, Elune is the server where I have an 80 mage. It would be very easy for him to get to you and port you wherever you want to go if you are also on Elune.

adhemar, do you have any other flight points in Kalimdor? Your best bet may be to fly (or run) out to Theramore, then take the boat to Menethil, and fly back to Stormwind to get the boat that (now) goes to Rut’theran. Yeah, running all the way down there is going to be tedious, but it’s better than sitting in the inn in Lor’danel until moss grows on you.

That would be a very long run at level 17. I kinda doubt he’s got any flight paths in that direction at his level. If he’s not on my server…or on a server where one of the other dopers has a mage available, his best bet may be to file a petition. Under the circumstances, maybe a GM could port him, or give him the necessary FP, or something.

See, I wouldn’t consider that so horrible a run that I’d petition. Yes, it’s a long run, but I’d probably use it as an opportunity to pick up some Kalimdor flight points. Do it naked if he’s worried about dying and repair bills. It’s not like game-death is permanent. I’ve corpse-hopped quite a bit while leveling toons.

If you do decide to make a run for it, adhemar, don’t forget to pick up the flight points as you make your way down there. I don’t know the new ones very well for northern/central Kalimdor, but you at least want to get Astranaar, Ratchet and Theramore. Possibly that new Alliance fort at the Barrens rift, too.

Hmmm…Ratchet. Is there still a boat to Stranglethorn from there? Cuz that might be way easier that trying to reach Theremore at level 17…
