New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Do you have the actual Cataclysm expansion installed, Quasi? The ability to get levels above 80 is part of the expansion, just like the ability to go to Outland or Northrend were part of Burning Crusade and Wrath. No expansion, no 80+.

Yes, I have the expansion and have started working on it. I downloaded it Dec 2nd and checked it out and played it a little at about 3:30 ET this morning.

Do I need to buy flying training in SW?

Thanks

Q

You do need to buy flying for the Old World. I bought it from the trainer at the Flight Point in Stormwind for 200G.

My Alliance 'toons are on a PvP server (Wildhammer). I took my 80 rogue to Vashj’ir and Hyjal last night and wound up bailing on both after about 2 minutes. It was like a 100v100 battleground, making questing and exploration all but impossible. Hopefully things will quiet down a bit by the time I’m home from work today…

Any reports from the goblin starting area? Are there totems a plenty just littering the ground?

… hope you guessed my NAME!

“Just as Existails called me Lucifer, I’m in need of some RESTRAINT!..”

So that’s what I named my Worgen Hunter: “Existails”;). I’ll send a screenie later.

“When you meet me, show some courtesy!…”

:):):):)I am very proud of that name and my Hunter!:):):)

Hoo-hoo!

Quasi

Yeah, that usually happens, but it doesn’t help with the other faction or if there’s more than 5 people there. Or if the quest is about ground spawns etc. It’s getting better for me at least now that I’m deeper in Vashj’ir, but the early parts were just plain bad.

Quasi, I just started up a worgen hunter as well. The opening quests are pretty fun. I played for about 20 minutes at 7:00 this morning and it was already a little hard to accumulate the kills I needed for the quests. It’ll probably be even worse later on.

There were functioning doors in the town, which was fun. One particular quest has you open up something like a basement hatch to find the person of itnerest.

But y’all can call us “Exi” for short!:D;)

Quasi

PS: To Mithril. Haven’t started him out yet, but will this evening. I’m all excited and shit!

That’s a cool background for the Worgen character selection screen. Someday I’ll have to make some time to roll one.

You have a couple random Alliance alts on Alleria (sp?), right? I think I’m going to use that one for my Worgen alt, unless I put in the effort to figure out where this one guy on my livejournal friends list plays.

Love it! Color me jealous of all of you who are at home playing right now.

So, I got up semi-earlyish so that I’d have time to do some quests, and made it a bit into Vashj’ir (since that’s where the breadcrumbs took me). It seems pretty cool so far, though finding things is kind of. . .well, interesting. . .

I left off at the sea turtle. I didn’t see a single damn one, and I had to go to work in 15 minutes

Seems most of the others are going through Hyjal. I kind of wish I had, since I haven’t figured out how to get back to SW from Vashj’ir yet. They’ve done well on the spawn frequency, at least; plenty of mobs/items to go around, even with a heavy questing crowd. I guess we’ll see how it really is tonight.

I also made a Worgen and a Goblin, but haven’t logged in as either of them. They look so cool!

As I recall, there have been a few discussions in the past about starting up an Alliance Guild for Dopers, but I don’t think anything has ever come of it. Given that lots of us are going to be rolling new characters for Cataclysm, is there any interest in trying to get something moving?

You can mount up and fly back (assuming you bought Old World flying before you left SW). You can now mount while swimming, and if you fly due east from Vash’jir you’ll shortly hit Dun Morogh.

I do have a couple of low-level Alliance toons on Alleria, a human paladin and a dwarf warrior. I usually only play them when Cairne is down. If I do roll a Worgen I don’t really have a realm preference, but I probably wouldn’t play it often. It would be nice to have him in a Doper guild though.

Also, in the realm of WoW-related stupid:

Back in October, I ordered my-best-friend-the-tank the Cataclysm CE from Best Buy. He’s in another state, and works during the day, so I put in for in-store pickup under his name. I figured this meant that it was a guarantee.

Ha.

I got an email this morning saying that the store didn’t have it. It’s resolved now, but that’s just screwed the heck up.

If I’ve purchased the game on DVD, how long should it take to load? Am I right to think “not long” since most of the changes were in the patch two weeks ago?

Any opinions on where I should roll my Goblin?

Korgath:
Pro: My main is there. I already have Leather melee Heirlooms for my Worgen, so I can mail them back and forth.
Con: PvP server. None of my friends have non-farmer/mule Horde toons there.

Elde’Thalas:
Pro: PvE server. I have an 80 Horde character there, and the friends I play with also have a number of Horde characters there, including at least a couple 80s.
Con: No Heirlooms. Away from my main, and I probably won’t have the opportunity to buy Heirlooms anytime soon.

Cairne!

Honestly, if you’re looking to tour the Goblinish stuff and not trying to win some kind of server-first race or zoom into raiding asap, the heirlooms don’t seem that important to me, and a DK alt ought to be able to make you enough money to speed up your trade skill acquisition, etc.

Both me and several people in my guild actually banked our heirlooms on our alts because 1-58 questing is so smooth and fun now, and we were outleveling our areas too quickly. I anticipate pulling them back out once I hit Outland again. All the quest rewards have been tuned to actually be useful, too, along with the dungeon loot. There’s even some nice blue quest rewards at the end of major quest chains, even if they weren’t difficult to complete.
