New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Thank you, jayjay. I did as you recommended and started a ticket.

Q

Just reading the above histories and heh, I couldn’t help but remember the time I tried to run to Ironforge through the Redridge mountains and kept getting Wolkie’s ass kicked. I think I was about an 11 at that time!

Luckily, a higher-level came by, laughed and told me to go to the Dwarven District and catch the tram or I might not be playing the game today.

By the way, anyone know where I can get great father Winter some gingerbread cookies? I looked in IF, in SW and I got his milk, but no cookies.

Thanks

Q

I have a question, please Shots don’t aim to kill…

Are “clickers” supposed to be faster/better than “typers” at anything other than moving? I had a question out of the blue yesterday from one of our RLs about whether I was a clicker, I answered “I’m a mix, I turn with the mouse, click for healing, type for DPSing” and that was it. Later I discovered the RLs and the GM were setting up the progression team at the time. I want to ask her what was that about, but figured maybe you guys have more of a clue than I do.

We’ve never even grouped together, so being evaluated by someone who has not even met me on-screen on the basis of a single question smells seriously burned, unless I happen to be missing something (wouldn’t be the first time). I use the mouse with my not-quite-dominant hand (I’m lefty trained as righty), getting a left-handed multi-button mouse and learning to use it with the hand that’s got more than two intelligent fingers seems like a lot of work to go to in order to become a fulltime clicker (it took me months to get used to two-button mice)… specially without knowing why the heck should I. I’m used to consistently topping DPS, so whatever I’m doing wrong I can’t be doing it that wrong, dagnabit.
Quasi, you have to cook the cookies, it’s a level 1 recipe. I think you get it from the vendors at the cart.

Oh yeah, been meaning to tell y’all… I have disbanded the guild “Slightly Demented”. The few members I had were no longer communicating with me, weren’t contributing help to other guildies and basically just weren’t interested in playing that much, I don’t think. Some had been absent for 3 months or more.

Now, whenever someone sees Wolkie at his warrior level 80, he gets that really fancy guild invite flashing on the screen, but I just tell people I’m strictly solo. I know they want me for a tank, but as we all know I don’t understand that strategy as well as I should to be of any use.

I guess I’ve gotten to the point where stuff just doesn’t work out for me sometimes, so I just relax, play the game my way and have Wolkie go see Heather at her inn in Sentinel Hill when he needs some TLC. (He still gets laughs and giggles when he kneels before her and then stands and kisses her:))

Thanks

Q

Wow! You’re ambidextrous, Nava???

Man! I’d give my left arm to be ambidextrous!

Also thanks for the info on cooking the cookies! Never even crossed this feeble mind of mine! :o

And you know that reindeer they’re holding for ransom? Am I supposed to give them 1k of MY gold to get that thing out?

Thanks

Q

PS: I’m TOTALLY a clicker, Nava. I tried keybinding once, but never could figure out how to do it.

One of the goblins near Greatfather Winter will sell you a recipe as well as the spices you’ll need. You’ll need 1 Small Egg and 1 Spice (Winter Spice? Holiday Spice? You’ll see it) per cookie.

Since you’ve read the notes, I guess you’ve opened the pouch they gave you. In the pouch with the notes was a bag of some kind of magic dust. You don’t have to pay anything. Just go to Searing Gorge, kick the butts of the Dark Iron dwarves who have Metzen, then right-click on the reindeer. You’ll see an option to sprinkle the dust on him.

More like neither-dexterous. I probably could have learned to be ambidexterous if I hadn’t run into things like that kindergarten teacher who’d hit my bunched-up fingers with a sprung ruler whenever I used “the Devil’s hand” to draw, or that tennis teacher who had me at the verge of tears because with the racket in my right hand I couldn’t even begin to calculate trajectories, and with it in my left he yelled at me “you write with your right hand! You’re right-handed! Stop switching hands!” The PhysEd substitute teacher who told four of us “you may be right-handed, but you’re definitely left-footed” has my undying gratitude.

It’s confusing at times, but still better than my cousin P’s wooden right arm or my friend B’s son’s wooden left one (the expression is hers): for them, the non-dominant arm is merely a counterweight to the dominant one.

Also, I suspect that giving up one arm in order to be ambidexterous would be counterproductive. Maybe if we can find a priest with a “Regrow arm” spell…

And then don’t forget to go back to the goblin who gave you the quest to turn it in. After you turn that quest in, he tells you to talk to Greatfather Winter, then when you talk to him, you’ll get the achievement.

The Small Eggs are drops off bird creatures in lower-end zones in Azeroth. Look up “Small Egg” on wowhead.com and see where the closest creatures that have them as loot are.

If they’re evaluating you on any basis other than your actual performance in group, regardless of your methods, then they’re doing it wrong.

Having said that, someone who clicks their abilities will never be as fast as someone (of comparable skill/knowledge) who keybinds their abilities. The only exception is if you’ve got heals bound to your mouse buttons and are clicking on party/raid frames to cast your heals – but I don’t consider that being a “clicker” (clicker to me implies you are clicking your abilities on the action bars).

Personally, I don’t care as long as they’re getting the job done – but some raids/groups are elitist enough to differentiate. Although never ever ever be a keyboard turner, that’s just bad

ETA: In summary, move with the mouse, choose abilities with keybinds (unless you have click-healing set up) is “optimal.”

I finished off Deepholm late last night and again the end was done exceptionally well, that Stonemother is a looker. Great staff as a quest reward near the end and hitting 525 Mining was an added bonus.

We had Vash’jir issues afterwards though as we tried to find the Throne of Tides entrance so we could queue for it. I had no problem picking up the Hero’s Call quest but my levelling buddy couldn’t and no matter what we tried he couldn’t seem to get to Vash’jir, no portal no boat and no breadcrumb quest. Ticket raised and we’re waiting for a response.

Minor anger over the fact that my lock still is lacking a portrait on the new Armory while my bank alt has one regularly refreshed. Very odd.

Mouseover macros for healing are always faster than click healing too to be fair.

I agree fully with this post, judge people on what they do not how they’re set up.

Got 525 Archaeology this morning on my priest! Also, my Fossil queue just came up with the fossilized raptor mount rare item.

Grats! Soooo very jealous :stuck_out_tongue:

I pushed myself last night in Uldum but I’m still 9% xp short of 85. I’ll get it tonight. I did “discover” two of the Uldum instances and RDF put me in Vortex Pinnacle, but the group was only one trash pull away from the final boss so that’s all I saw (that final boss is a piece of cake, though – the trash was much harder).

And who do I have to kill to get some plate caster boots? I’ve upgraded most of my equipment multiple times but my feet are still iLvl 287 or something.

I’m looking forward to hitting 85 so I can switch over to my priest: I want to level my tailoring and enchanting, and the actual levelling should go a lot faster since that toon has an actual dps spec.

Yay, glad you got that figured out! Remember that for now, running along the floor of the sea will be your fastest way to move. Pretty soon, though, you’ll get yourself a mount that will go even faster underwater (but only in that zone). \

When you get the mount, here’s something to watch out for: You can’t mount it if you’re standing on the sea floor. So just swim up a little bit before you try to summon it.

No. Clickers/keyboard turners will *always *be slower, and therefore worse. It’s not impossible to be a good player and a clicker, but any player who’s good as a clicker will be better if they learn to use keybinds, because their reaction time will be faster.

Using an addon like Clique (or Vuhdo?) for healing in combination with raid frames IMO counts as binding and *not *clicking–your keybinds are just on your mouse instead of your keyboard. The problem with clicking, specifically, is that you have to move your mouse all over the damn place in order to select different abilities; that’s obviously not an issue with a healing addon like that, since all you’re moving your mouse to is the frame of the player you want to cast a spell on.

Asking if someone is a keybinder or a clicker certainly isn’t the only important thing about them, but it can tell you a lot about their playstyle and how dedicated they are to min/maxing. Any hardcore raiding guild I’ve been in asks for screenshots of your UI; at least part of the reason is to see what you have keybound and how. Having nothing keybound is a big red flag and pretty much an auto-decline.

I’m pretty sure there’s a way to ignore all guild invites–check through your Interface options, especially anything chat-related.

I’m continually creeped out by the fact that stone is somehow able to wobble like that.

The new Armory and Forums are broken, broken, broken. Welcome to the new Blizz, where they dump things live without adequate testing because, hey, why pay testers when your customers will pay *you *to test things!

That would be easy to find via Wowhead. I can’t remember what the exact chain would be, but it would be something like Browse > Items > Armor > Plate > Boots. Once you’re on that page, under the ilvl section, put 333 in the minimum and leave the maximum blank. Over in the box at the right, click “Rare,” then hold down Ctrl and also click “Epic” (that way it will return both). On the drop-down menu for selecting other things, there should be a heading something like “Main Stat” or “Base Stat”–pick Intellect and just leave the rest of the filter at the default, which will be >0. Hit the button to run the scan, and you should get a full list of Plate boots ilvl 333 and higher that are Rare or Epic and have Int on them. Oh, you may also want to select the dropdown to specify items that are equippable by Horde/Alliance depending on your faction, so that you don’t accidentally see quest rewards or rep items that you don’t have access to.

And like I think I’ve told other people: If you want to level fast, get your ass to Twilight Highlands. AFAIK the XP there is miles better than what you’ll get in any other zone at 84. IIRC it’s even better than chaining dungeons.

Ah, I wondered what happened - logged in my Worgen who had joined Slightly but found I wasn’t in a guild any more. Probably makes sense, and like I told you I wasn’t really planning on playing that guy for long after finishing the intro area.

Not that I’m going to be playing much for another week or so, but where do you pick up the breadcrumb quest for TH? So far I’ve just followed breadcrumbs from Hyjal to Deepholm to Uldum.

Plate Foot Armor - World of Warcraft shows Plate Caster boots rewarded by a quest having an iLevel greater than 300. A grand total of two for each side. The crafted PvP boots are pretty good Ornate Pyrium Boots

On review what SFG said but with added links.

IIRC I got mine off the city notice board. Because I was focused on leveling quickly, I didn’t follow any cross-zone breadcrumbs.

Links are good! I’m constantly frustrated by the fact that I can’t get to any of my WoW resources from work.
