Thanks Headrush. I know about Petopia but unfortunately I can’t access it from work, and I haven’t gotten around to looking at it from home yet (not in several years anyway).
IMO until you start raiding or heroics with your hunter, the best pet is the one you think looks the coolest
It really doesn’t make a significant difference until then, even in normal dungeons (except for your special occasions, like soloing elites/group content).
Ha! This is a toon I will be playing 1.5 - 2 hours a week, max. It will be years, most likely, before she hits max level if ever.
Got my Uldum quest achievement last night, which means I polished off Cataclysm Loremaster! I was also thrilled to see yesterday that they’d hotfixed the problem that was causing everyone in the entire zone of Uldum to constantly go in and out of combat. Less excited to see that they fixed the bug that was giving Prot Warriors extra Crit Block and made the new Alchemist’s Stone un-DE-able.
Canceled last night’s raid and added one for Monday, since we couldn’t find a tank healer. That means I’m just 30 VP shy of my T11 chest: I’ll get it tonight, one way or the other, since even a Heroic will push me over what I need. On the plus side, I picked up the last of the JP I needed for my 346 DPS pants (replacing a *green *:o), so now IIRC the last item I need from that currency will be a DPS helm to clear out the crappy blue I’ve got there now. Just in time for the incoming crafting mat JP dumps! Woohoo!
1.) You have to have an open “Summon Pet” slot in order to tame another one. At your level, you only have one slot. To open up the slot, you must stable that pet or abandon it. As you gain additional slots, IIRC you should be able to tame a new pet as long as at least one of your summoning slots is free.
2.) Foxes and Dogs are two separate families of pet, with different special abilities. They also fall under different main classifications; Foxes are Cunning while Dogs are Ferocity. Petopia is an amazing resource site on Hunter pets.
3.) Prior to 4.0, IIRC you got your first Pet talent point somewhere around 12 and every 4 levels thereafter. I’m not sure if/how that’s been adjusted for Cata.
Grats I am looking at building a Prot set from 84-85 on my pally as we have a grand total of 0 tanks in the guild at 85 and none forthcoming it seems, what was wrong with the Earthern Ring trousers?
Stone-Wrapped Greaves
Binds when picked up
Legs Plate
2737 Armor
+248 Strength
+401 Stamina
Red Socket
Blue Socket
Socket Bonus: +20 Parry Rating
Durability 100 / 100
Requires Level 83
Item Level 333
Requires The Earthen Ring - Honored
Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 138 (1.35% @ L83).
Equip: Increases your parry rating by 158 (1.54% @ L83).
I needed *DPS *pants for my offspec. Those are tanking pants. (And, in fact, I’ve upgraded past those.) Dodge and Parry don’t do anything for me when I’m Fury.
Finally tamed Loque’nahak! Decided to drop by Scholazar one morning on the hunter and BAM right there on the first spawn site. Now I have to finish leveling the hunter and go after something else, though I’m not sure what my last stable slot should hold.
Our groups first night of raiding was short and frustrating to say the least. I think we survived for all of 60 seconds on each Halfus pull. We’re going to try Valiona and Theralion tonight, while I hope this fight will go better I’m pretty sure it’ll end the same way. It doesn’t help that I was asked to heal on my shaman about 2 days before the raid so I went in pretty undergeared. There’s always next week, I guess.
Rolled a Worgen hunter on another server to chat with a friend and I’m really liking the starting zone. Especially the top hat, probably one of the few hats I’ll ever display on a character.
I think Hyjal has some 246 DPS pants for Revered, but I could be hallucinating. (And I never use my DPS spec anyway).
I agree; love the top hat. It’s so tiny on the worgen head in wolf form, but looks good in human form. It’ll be a shame to replace it when I eventually get a hat with stats on it.
Hell, no WONDER I can’t tank worth a shit. Ain’t wearin’ the right britches! ![]()
Q
Congrats! I’m so jealous of all those sexy Spirit Beasts. I really need to haul out my Hunter again soon.
The new fights all seem pretty crazy the first few attempts through, because if you just read down a list it seems like you have approximately a hojillion abilities to keep track of. However, the trick is that not all of them are active at once, and different ones are relevant for different roles (e.g., if you’re DPS, you really don’t need to know anything about unavoidable damage). This isn’t Naxx, and you can’t really faceroll your way through most/all of these fights (even the relatively easy ones): pre-knowledge of what you’re going to be facing helps a lot. Taking ten minutes at the start of a pull for everybody to, say, tab out and watch a Tankspot video can actually have a huge positive impact on the raid’s performance.
For Halfus, which drakes are active, the order you release them in, how many are active at a time, and how your tanks trade off is going to make a huuuge difference between a kill and a wipe.
Looking at the spreadsheet I made with all of my potential rep rewards (yes, I’m a nerd), Hyjal had Plate DPS *boots *at Revered. I don’t see DPS legs anywhere on the list.
Pretty sure all of us had watched the video and at least two of the people had run the raid before, including the raid leader. We were just having issues with interrupting Shadow Nova, getting everyone to move out of fireballs, and not having our tanks go down like a sack of potatoes. Doesn’t really help that our main tank is having computer issues and freezes up for a couple of seconds during the fight.
So what happens when people get bored on Tuesday nights? They get a group of their friends, create level 1 Gnomes, and have their picture taken with Garrosh! Okay by that time I was actually level 2, but still…
I think I made it half way to the back gate before I gave up and watch everyone else on the live stream. We’ve also done 1,000 level 1 Orc in Gurubashi Arena and the Level 1 Orc raid on Gamon. So much fun!
:smack: reading fail, apologies.
We were this close >< to winning Tol Barad as the attackers last night another 30 seconds or so and I think the day would have been ours. On our Battlegroup people are really making an effort to coordinate things much more so than Wintergrasp. I guess you really don’t get anywhere without it.
And even then, I love the “carry-on stable” because it lets me change pets mid-instance; not raiding in Cata yet, but I assume the same will hold true. I can have a wasp out for the interrupts and change to my wolf for the bonus when we’re against a boss where the interrupts aren’t interesting/don’t work; there was a Heroic Halls of Origination run where my beetle tanked for me on the second jump while I pulled both levers, and another player remarked “I’d thought a tanking pet was a bad choice, but woohoo!” (yeah, I wouldn’t usually have a tanking pet out either). In WotLK raids, at one point it was wolves, wolves, wolves… one of my guildies said he liked raiding with me because that let him bring the cat that was his first pet and remains his favorite. In BC, I had people tell me that I was using “the wrong pet” because it wasn’t a cat (“do I look like an elf? No? This dorf doesn’t do cats!”). None of that any more!
Speaking of wrong pets… they broke Iris!
I have one of those spiky pets from the BC, can’t remember their name now, and these ones changed color, because the mob itself had several possible colorings. Now, unlike other pets that got changed (like my croc spirit which looks like a hydra, which is not tameable any more), these ones got “fixed” when the mob did - Iris doesn’t change color any more. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Can anyone point me at a decent druid guide? I will be speccing feral for levelling but may go balance later on. Would like to know what attributes to gear up for.
When I was playing my druid I used this site http://fluiddruid.net/ for feral quite a bit and the druid writers over at Wow Insider are always worth a read http://wow.joystiq.com/category/shifting-perspectives/ with many, many guides for all specs.
What’s the usual icon for traps? Yesterday a tank tagged an enemy with Square and was like, why aren’t you trapping? Every single time I’ve been asked to trap it was with Triangle, but this dude said the standard was Square. I know I should just ask at the start what the tank uses, but I did it find it odd that if it was the standard, it took that long for someone to use it with me.
The “standard” varies; in my server it used to be square, but in recent groups I’ve had to ask the tank to Please Define His Terms (TM my 12th grade Physics teacher). I’ve had guys marking with moon (that’s sheep!), star (that’s sap!), orange/jaffa (that’s… that one varies a lot), triangle…
And there are two reason I say “in my sever it used to be”: one is that it’s from pre-Wrath days; the people who started playing during Wrath are likely to not have even learned cc existed until a month and a half ago. The other is that when we started getting cross-battlegroup PUGs, we discovered that some standards varied from server to server. “Skull goes first, X second” seemed to be about the only thing that held true.
Sometimes in a PUG it takes me a while to get used to that tank’s marking, not just markers but speed and choices. There was one who would change markers around two or three times: he’d put square on (for me), moon (for sap… that’s star, damnit!), skull, cross… and then just after I’d hit the “shoot trap” he’d start shuffling them! Note that, with a rogue in the group, I’d be trapping after sap had gone down: dude was changing the sap target once a mob was already sapped. That was an exercise in patience, but the rest of the group was good.
Not a leveling guide… but this is where i go for most of my kitty & bear reading/information: http://wowthinktank.blogspot.com/
On my server/battlegroup it seems that everyone assumes the following without explanation:
Skull - First Kill
X(cross) - Second Kill
Moon - Sheep
Square - Trap
Star - Sap
Triangle - Hex
Though if i’m using RDF, i’m tanking and doing all the marking and i state a the start of the run what i mean by the marks.
