I’ve definitely made 1000g selling 40 volatile fires that I could fish up in a half hour from the 4 pools of lava in Hyjal. Each pool has about 3-7 VFs and the pools usually respawn about 15 minutes average. So, that’s about 16 pools per hour x 5 VFs average for about 80 VFs in an hour and now on Cairne they go for 20-25g each…netting 1600-2000g for an hour of farming. I was doing this on my work computer since it was easy to check every so often for respawns between phone calls, paper work, etc. I believe I told a few guilies who were on at the time…it was by far the easiest goldmaker that I ever done.
Here’s my farming routine:

Volatile Water–In Twilight Highlands, north of the portal exit from Org is a river with Muddied Water Elementals. You can supposedly fish for them in Uldum but I’ve never tried that.

Volatile Fire–You can fish for these in both Twilight Highlands and Hyjal. I was farming them from some mobs in Hyjal but I can’t seem to find them now. The fire pools can be kind of busy especially in TH.

Volatile Air–The only place I know to get them are the Scions in Uldum near a pyramid(?) south of the bombing daily. This is by far the worst grind. Drop rate blows and there are lots of <85s questing there.

Volatile Earth–Only spot I’ve found is in TH at the end of the river above. It’s the purple spot NE. Kill the Obsidian Stoneslaves. Small area but the respawn rate is pretty good and you can farm embersilk from the Shamans.

Volatile Life–No idea. They’re cheap so I buy these.
You can, off the coast at least. The drop rate isn’t great, though.

Those come from herbing in Cata. I had a little over 50 in just about an hour of farming so I could pick some up for you if you need them Scammer.
You can fish for them but the drop rate isn’t the best, at least you can sell some of the fish on the AH to make a small profit if you go this route.
Also Alchemists have Transmute: Living Elements. I can transmute 15 Volatile life into 14-16 of any other volatile, but it’s on a 1 day cooldown. Also if I want a specific volatile I need to go to that zone, so say if I want Volatile Air I’ll do the transmute in Uldum.
Our attempts at Halfus weren’t that bad, they also weren’t that great either. We had Time, Slate, and the whelps so a lot of AoE damage going around. I was asked to switch to my Resto Shaman so they could bring in a pug tank, said tank was also on my ignore list.
Yet again the tanks get smashed into paste before we can get the dragons down, plus all the aoe damage going around is slowly killing the raid. I’m the only one on raid heals, we have the paladin and the druid on the tanks. It just wasn’t pretty at all. We did manage to get the Slate dragon down a few times, but we’d usually lose the Halfus tank in the process. At least we got past trash this time.
I fished for 20 min off the coast of TH last night and got 6 volatile waters - not great, but at least I picked up a bunch of Algea Rockfish to sell and Deepsea Sagefish to cook for +90 Int bonus.
I couldn’t find the lava pools in TH so I went to Hyjal and didn’t have any competition for the lava pools there, so I managed two sweeps of the pools in about 25 min which yielded 41 volatile fires - so thanks for that tip! The special tailoring cloths require 30 volatiles each so I’m trying to inch up to 525 (currently at 523 but more becaue of lack of cloth than lack of volatiles at this point).
Also - tried my first heroic pug in several weeks, got put into Tol’vir which was the site of my only previous successful pug. And this one went very smoothly also - the tank knew what he was doing (and had 160k health pool); the dps did their CC and mostly stayed out of the fire. And my healing plate leggings dropped. So now I’m a little more confident in queuing up.
I was wondering if anyone has seen a particular addon. It spams boss summaries/tactics in the party channel along with mouseover links for the special attacks. I installed Mactics but I don’t think that’s it as I used it on all the bosses in ToT but never saw a single mouseover link. Sound familiar to anyone?
The lava pools in TH are around 40,80 on the SW side of the map.
Fire’s definitely the easiest to farm between CDs on the dreamcloth. Earth is probably 2nd and Water 3rd with Air, well, a VERY distant 4th.
[ETA] I use an addon named FarmIt to keep track of everything. It’s out dated and buggy but it gets the job done.

The Twilight Highlands quest Devoured: Fuck you, Blizzard. I can’t believe you’d pull that shit. Everyone knows you can only use that mechanic on a boss fight.

Oh hot damn! I thought they’d made no changes in Theramore, but I dropped in there tonight and there’s now a freakin’ BRIDGE from Theramore to the western half of Dustwallow. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Blizzard.
Annoying: I was on my level 59 nelf priest doing a bit of archaeology at The Overgrowth in Northern Barrens, when she spotted a poor Taurajo Refugee being waved about by a plant tentacle. Just to be nice she killed the tentacle and freed that poor tauren … and for her trouble ended up PvP flagged. WTF? She didn’t get into any combat with that tauren!
Funny: That same Taurajo Refugee said, “I remember when the Barrens was … barren. And we liked it!”
This priest also finished up questing in Winterspring, and discovered that Hemet Nesingwary has died and been reincarnated as a goblin named Jez Goodgrub. Geez, 31 dead cats, 31 dead owls, and 31 dead bears later, I was finished with that little quest hub :rolleyes: Jez does, however, have an employee who is now officially my favorite-named NPC: Barbie Cutesazz
While I’m loving the new 1-60 leveling/questing experience, I do have one complaint: leveling way too quickly, even absent heirlooms and rested XP. I’m outleveling zones before I’m even halfway finished with their quests.

It keeps telling me “You can’t buy the specified quantity of that item”. I have the love tokens to afford it. It just won’t let me buy!
I don’t know–but I can’t either, so it’s probably a bug, and not just us. That’s what I came in here to bitch about :).
The Gift for the Chieftain quest is bugged, too. The quest says to give the bracelet to CAIRNE Bloodhoof, but Cairne is no more (he’s joined the Herd Invisible) and Baine doesn’t have the question mark (although it shows up right where Baine is (and Cairne used to be) on the minimap). I put in a ticket.
All these bugs is why they shouldn’t have two festivals running concurrently. With all the changes in Cata, they obviously didn’t have time to change both holidays’ quests to conform to the new world correctly.
