New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Is it just me, or is there a lot more mingling of the two factions in this expansion? I mean, I’ve never seen so many of both together in the same city. Shattrath was a ghost city when I started playing and Dal kept the factions apart. But everyone mingles together in Ramkahen and I’m just finding more people around each other with archaeology.

I also apologize to the lvl 40 Troll who was probably pissing his pants when two 85 Alliance dropped into the field he was in to do archaeology.

And then, last night, 8 of us were able to come for an extra night to work on Cho’gall, and we were able to down him after 4-5 more attempts. Really was completely about DPS balance (having the right amount on the adds vs. the boss). The fact that the guild feral tank we subbed in did 13k () DPS on the boss didn’t hurt…

Yes, go us! http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/7238/wowscrnshot031411001554.jpg
Not sure if I’m comfortable with two healing that fight just yet. I kept running pretty low by the time we hit phase three and I was completely OOM on one attempt. It was a lot less hectic than our previous attempts though. Bring on Nef!

Attempting to gear up a couple of alts through heroics this past week and I’ve noticed that either the people in the dungeon finder have turned evil, or my bad pug curse has shown up again. Until yesterday every pug I was put into had at least one person leave, everyone swearing at each other, and half the time we broke up before the dungeon was over. Had one tank leave at the first boss in BRC because one person, politely, ask if there was anything different on heroic since it was his first. It’s very annoying to spend 3 hours trying to get one dungeon completed. Even my lowbie warlock had to abandon two dungeons because the tank got into a fight with the dps/healer over asking for a mana break.

It almost makes me want to respec my druid back to bear… almost.

It must be just you, Shin Kell, because my pugs lately have gone pretty well.

Well, yesterday my shaman was running his two millionth random through BRD and had a dps drop twice - one after we helped him complete the Heart of the Mountain quest and one just a bit before the final boss. But I don’t really care when we lose DPS - they usually get replaced quickly and these lower level dungeons can usually be 4-manned pretty easily even at-level. It only bugs when the tank drops, which hasn’t happened to me lately.

Yeah, the DPS was obviously fine 3-healing since we pushed P2 before the fourth bloods spawned. I just hope that’s still the case when we don’t have a tank at #4 on our DPS chart (#3 on yours, but I refuse to acknowledge he might have out-dps’ed me, WoL has me ahead!).

Nef sounds… fun? Yet another random-gib RNG fight I guess, with massive bursts of AoE damage and tons of interrupts.

Anybody have tips for handling the Nef P1 adds? Should I be doing that as a Frost DK? Or make our hunter bring in a tanking pet?

If you’re doing 10s, just CC the hell out of them. You can also kite them around the middle as a Frost DK if you have Chilblains, but that’s up to your group comp. When we were first doing it, we found it easiest to just CC them, but we had a hunter, two priests and two druids. Not sure what comp you will have, but mages Ring of Frost and Chilblains work as well. Just make sure to keep them lumped in one spot for P3. Also, the key for P3 is not to kite them quickly but slowly, moving just enough to keep them out of fire as Nef spawns them. On our first Heroic kill, our add tank just started booking it at the end, because they were going to be max energy regardless of what he did, but you can get a kill on Normal without resorting that insanity. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks. Yes, 10s. Do all CC’s work - what type are the adds? We’ll have a hunter, priest, druid, warlock, shaman, three pallies (ret, prot, holy), and two dks (frost, blood). 5 adds total, right?

They’re undead, so Shackle from priests works, Fear works, Repentence works, paladin undead Fear, etc. There are 5 adds to deal with on 10s, and with your set up, you should be able to CC all 5 of them easily. It might be a bit annoying for your healers to have to CC, but it’s the easiest way to handle them and get through that phase, as your second tank won’t be available for that duty until P3. We basically tried to CC them towards the middle of the room, and although this makes it more annoying for the add tank in P3, it should be fine as long as you’re tanking Nef on the extreme edges of the room (we would have the rest of the raid on the far side of Nef along the wall) shuffling Nef along the wall if necessary. Just make your add tank keep an eye on Nef’s mouth (or someone else to call it) as you can see him cast the shadowflame ball and move the adds in time. You should aim for him “resetting” the adds ~3 times for a kill (having all their energy drain and them fall down before the shadowflame hits them again).

Honestly, the fight is not really RNG at all (though it is more so on Heroic). The damage bursts are the most predictable thing possible (every 10%), and using raid walls like DG or PW:B will make it a lot easier. P2 will probably be a fairly steep learning curve, as it’s all about interrupts and your healers learning how to handle the damage (remember there’s a Blast Wave that needs to be interrupted almost immediately when you get up on the pillar; on our initial kill I had to go cat form - as a tree druid - and help catch that). Also, on jumping onto the pillar, don’t be right up next to it as there’s a “lip” that will make your character act slightly retarded. Stay back a ways (and don’t jump in and out of the lava as it will stack the Magma DoT faster), and just jump up and forward when the lava is done rising. Put interrupts in the hands of your most reliable players and you should be fine. Also, the trinket from Tol Barad dailies can be very useful on this fight, as it nearly halves the damage from the discharge.

What I’ve found helpful for finding gear is also using wowhead.com, but doing a zone lookup.
down at the bottom of the page you’ll have to different tabs for displaying NPCS, Objects, Quests, etc. If you look under the Quests tab (or Quest rewards), you can find a questline that might have a reward that you can use.
I’ve found this way useful for trying to find items that aren’t easily purchased, or are usually too expensive.
I just had my mage complete a questline to get a new trinket which replaced one he was using from back in the Borean Tundra area of Northrend.
This will also get you gold and experience from doing the quests!

It’s not that I think disc is a bad thing, it’s that I’ve been holy since day one, so having to get my head around the disc playstyle in time for raiding is an intimidating thought. I mentioned the blanket hotting because we have a resto druid, but this isn’t Wrath, sadly. We’re in need of a better tank healer and I’m thinking that disc might do better at least until the next nerf.

I have access to EJ and PlusHeal, but any additional playstyle/advice you can provide would be great.

Just won the Reins of the Drake of the North Winds from H Vortex Pinnacle. On my druid, but it’s the only drake I’ve seen that I like so far.

Happy time!

Sweet, SK!

The new Cata drakes are so purty! They almost make me want to start Heroics. :stuck_out_tongue:

1.) As has been observed, the only “primary stat” you can Reforge is Spirit.
2.) Spirit is a bad/useless stat for Warriors.

Good for Wolkie
Strength
Hit
Crit
Mastery
Anything that says “Rage”

Okay for Wolkie
Haste
Stamina

Almost Useless for Wolkie
Dodge
Parry

Useless for Wolkie
Spirit
Intellect
Spellpower
Anything that says “Mana” or “Focus”
Spell Penetration
Resilience

Artisan flying is 5,000 gold as the base price. You get a 5% discount for every rank of reputation with the seller, so Exalted is a 20% discount, so that’s 1,000g off the price. So, yup, you only pay 4k.

BUT, you need to make sure you do the training from the right person! The flight trainer **in Stormwind **(by the flightmaster) should have the correct faction and price.

Nope. You’re not even doing something wrong if you’re killing things and there are a *bunch *of people in the zone. If it looks like they’re going after the same things you are, you can ask if they need them for a quest (to be nice), and it would be nice to move to someting else or a different area if they ask you to stop so that they can kill something for a quest, but you’re both paying to play the game.

No, “about time” is exactly the right reaction. Ugh.

1.) Nef: I will be so fucking happy when our interrupts can’t miss. We only have two DPS with short-CD interrupts, which means that one pillar only has a guarantees interrupt for every other cast. Now, we’ve got healers/tanks helping out with that one, but there’s still the chance for the stars to align and one to slip through.

2.) H-Halfus: So much of our wipes was just figuring out how to balance “damage from loose drakes battering on tanks” versus “damage from fight mechanics as a result of drakes not being freed.” I think we should be able to make it work this week with just turning the beginning into a shitstorm of letting everything loose at once and making judicious use of CDs.

I’d say it’s just you. There was a lot of mixing in TBC that you missed because everything was a ghost town by the time you got there. I’d say there was also a lot of mixing in Wrath–certainly more than there is now. Everybody is using SW or Org as their hub. You never run into the opposite faction while doing your Cooking/Fishing/JC dailies, etc.

My co-tank was singing its praises last week. I really need to get off my ass and grind out the badges for that. Ugh.

Congrats! I haven’t even seen one of those drop yet.

You can get one of the new drakes without any group content at all. Just do dailies in Tol Barad–when you’re Exalted with your faction’s, er, faction, you can buy a wind drake for 200 badges. (It actually took me longer to grind out the badges than to hit Exalted.)

Jesus, Halls of Origination is long.

I knoooow, especially if you do all the bosses at the end. The only dungeons the RDF puts me in are Halls, Tol’Vir and Grim Batol. At least Tol’Vir is short and Grim Batol still feels new and shiny.

Have you done Heroic Deadmines yet? With wipes in the Admiral, and there will be a few, it takes even longer or it has for me so far.

I’d done that a few times before I even found out there was a boss after Cookie. When you add in Vanessa van Cleef also it gets really long. Love the bits of Vanessa where you have to swing away from the ship on a rope to avoid explosions.

For SFG, et al:

I knowm but "How ya like us now!"?

J/K!

You know how much I value y’all’s advice. Just looking to make “Dad” a better warrior so he can make money for the alt kids while levelling himself.

Another Quasi-Question: Do I need “Auto-Attack” as a button in my action bar?

Sometimes I accidentally hit that button and it stops Da Wolk’ straight in his tracks.

So “auto-attack” is automatic, or do I still need to keep it in my action bar- only avoid pressing it in the heat of battle, thereby making him look like a doof?

Thanks

Q

Right clicking on a target has the same affect as auto attack, so you can probably drop it from your action bar. I only keep it on their because sometimes in dungeons I pick targets using the tab key when other players are in the way so I can’t right click quickly enough. When selecting targets with tab having the auto attack button can be useful for me.

After the edit would not let me back in, here’s what was supposed to be linked after “How you like us now.”::

(Sometimes I wait too long to include the “song reference”, sorry!)
