New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Don’t feel bad, I did exactly the same thing shortly after Cata launched. Except I paid the full 5000g to the trainer in Dalaran.

Another fun week of raiding for me!!!

Halfus finally dropped my staff: http://www.wowhead.com/item=59474 Woohoo!!!

And we made progress by getting Twilight Ascendant Council down!!! We even took some cracks at Cho’gall (i think our best attempt was 29%) I think for now, dps seems to be the hold up since on our 29% attempt we wiped just as i was picking up the 5th adherent. Its been great fun seeing this progress the last couple of weeks even if it is just normal modes. i’m really enjoying the game right now! My guild is now 8/12!!! Cho’gall, Nefarian, Conclave and Al’Akir being the ones we haven’t gotten (we haven’t even stepped foot into throne of four winds yet)

Grats that’s one fine looking staff.

We lost Tol Barad in about 4 minutes last night, comedy gold. Wintergrasp was more fun at least the battle lasted a while even though there were only 5 or so of us per side.

I can’t decide if I adore Tol Barad or despise it. Defense has definitely gotten harder, for sure. I think a lot of defensive players are still on the “turtle one objective” mindset, but the graveyard placement difference between the attackers and the defenders definitely favors a zerging attacker. And the recap slowdown on defense makes zerging on attack feasible, especially if the attacker can spare some scouts to watch against big recap attempts. (That’s what I did last attack on my hunter: camouflage at one of our caps and watch a dozen defenders come down to recap. They spotted me, of course. But our rapid reaction force peeled off the zerg group on the final objective and interfered with the defenders’ recap long enough for the last objective to cap. Victory!)
Anyway, from the inside, Tol Barad battles are very confusing. If someone is coordinating efforts on the battleground channels, it can be ok.

Felt both awesome and idiotic yesterday.

First the awesome: Kalathan got enough reputation with Bilgewater to buy herself one of the motorized tricycles, which I’ve coveted ever since I first saw them. She was blasting around Ogrimaar yesterday in it while I hummed “Bad to the Bone” to myself. Buying the tricycle also gave her the ‘10 mounts’ achievement.

Second awesome: While running Tol’Vir yesterday with my human Death Knight, Seliza’s Spear dropped and he won the Greed roll. Although it’s really a hunter weapon (AGIL instead of STR), equipping it boosted his DPS by about +40. Plus, the polearm animations are way cooler

Now the idiotic. The run that got Kalathan enough rep to buy the tricycle also gave her about 2300 Justice points to spend. That was enough to upgrade either her chest or leg armor. Gave her a quick lookover; chest armor was item level 333, leg armor was item level 339, so obviously upgrade the chest first.

I went to the Justice quartermaster in Ogrimaar and bought Breastplate of Raging Fury. Hit the auction house for the gems it needed, and put it on. N-i-c-e.

I opened my bags and dragged the breastplate it had replaced over to the section where I stick things to be sold later. But as I was dragging it, I noticed that the item listed bonuses to dodge rating. That made me pause.

“Dodge rating?” I said to myself. “I didn’t think any of my DPS gear set had dodge rating. All my dodge gear should be part of the Tank set I’m trying to accumulate”…

…a sudden rush of “uh-oh” occurs. Quickly I check the space in my bags where I keep the gear for my Tank set. There, sitting amongst my other Tank gear, is another fully gemmed Breastplate of Raging Fury. Somehow, I’d managed to get my DPS chest armor assigned to the Tank gear set, and the Tank chest armor assigned to the DPS gear set. Oh crap.

Fortunately, I was still within the one-hour window for returning gear to a vendor for a full refund (and thankfully you can now do that even if you’ve socketed gems on the gear). I raced back to the Justice quartermaster, refunded the Breastplate I’d just bought, and instead spent the Justice points on new leg armor (Greaves of Gallantry).

So no harm done (except for the little detail that I ran an instance wearing the wrong chest armor), but I still felt like an idiot. I’m just so glad that I noticed it before the one-hour time limit for returning the item had expired.

how do you get 2300 justice points in one run? Is this a raid thing? Edit or was it just that the run got you TO 2300, and you already had a good chunk of those before you started?

Man, gear confuses me. I can roll need on a lot of items that have STR and STA but no AGI, but I can’t roll need on others that showcase AGI. Huntard confused.

You should be able to roll on any weapon that has AGI that you can use - typically you’ll want to focus on two-hand weapons.

I’m guessing maybe the things you can’t roll need on are armor items that are not your primary type (mail). Those would be leather feral druid pieces.

Poor maligned rogues, always forgotten.

Hah! I do tend to forget them, as in my 3 years or so of playing, with about 5 different 10-mans, I’ve very very rarely raided with a rogue. My only real experience with them is PvP, where they are actually little more than a nuisance (yay plate and IBF).

So yeah, here’s to the rogues - you backstabbing SOBs.

Premed->Shadowstep->Ambush->Kidney Shot->Backstab x 3->Eviscerate->Vanish

Don’t mind us…

Sorry: the run got her the usual 160 JP for a daily non-heroic PUG, and that gave her a total of 2300 JP to spend.

I’m sure if the weapon had been an upgrade for someone, they would have asked if they could Need on it. But in a PUG with a paladin tank, two Death Knights and a Druid DPS, and a Priest, everyone picked either Greed or Disenchant for it. I just happened to get the best roll.

I honestly didn’t expect it to be a DPS upgrade, given that it was replacing a level 318 two-handed STR and STA axe (don’t remember its name - you get it in Stonecore when you finish a quest chain). But I equipped it on a whim, and discovered that it was an upgrade.

If you’d been running with us, I’d have happily let you Need on the polearm. But as it was… <shrug>.

My tauren paladin is questing in Stonetalon.

He’s all (well, mostly) yellow now.

You might be playing too much WoW if your earworm for three days running is the Orgrimmar zone music…

Heh, i used to linger in Storm Peaks once in a while to try and catch that awesome choral section that would play occasionally.

Oh my. He’s like a big cow banana.

I think it’s time for ‘hey tell me why my gear sucks’! Armory link over yonder. I do notice I haven’t been keeping up with enchanting new pieces, I’ll work on those. I expect most comments are going to be ‘do more heroics for better gear’. I hope.

Patch 4.1 notes have been updated.

“All trade goods available for purchase with Honor or Justice Points from the associated commodities vendors have had their prices reduced by 50%.”

“The rate at which Honor Points are earned has been doubled.”

“Stratholme - Postboxes no longer require keys to open, because really, who locks their postboxes anymore when they’re all undead? It’s just people sending coupons for brains anyway.”

“Multi-Shot damage has been increased by 250%.” DO WANT

My hunter is only 26 now, but I tried using multi-shot a couple of times in BFD last night and was underwhelmed by the damage. Looking forward to this chage.

The price change will be nice when I’m done building my offspec gear set. And woo-hoo for the HP buff.

Oh yes, things I am personally excited about in the latest update:

1.) They’re finally fixing the stat budget on the tanking flask. Currently it gives 300 Stam, like everything else gives 300 (Str/Int/etc.). This is actually a problem because Stam is “cheaper” compared to other stats, so the flask is underbudgeted. The patch will bump it up to 450, where it should be.

2.) Gag Order will affect Pummel (give it a silence effect). This is an excellent compromise, rather than simply trashing Shield Bash and leaving Pummel as-is.

3.) Herioc Leap is coming off the GCD.

4.) A bunch of Heroics are getting nerfs. I’m totally fine with this, personally, since they haven’t been challenging at all since I started getting raid geared again, so anything that makes them even faster is welcome.
