So remember how I posted about how my guild couldn’t defeat the LK and it was a damage table bug, according to Blizzard? Well, yes, the bug exists, but I have also realized my guild just really, really sucks at raids. This is fine since I didn’t join for raiding, but it was still an unwelcome realization.
We started up a new 25-man ICC and gathered about 18 peeps (didn’t check exactly). We meet with Lord Marrowgar. There are a couple of people who haven’t done the battle before, but that’s okay.
Anyway, as ranged DPS my priority is the spikes. On 25-man there are 4 spikes. I got 3 of the 4 spikes myself, before getting spiked myself and screaming into chat SPIKED. And we continued to wipe over and over (didn’t help that I kept on getting spiked). And I just wanted to scream - there’s no way a group of 85s, even at less than 25 men, should not be able to get those spikes. It was driving me nuts. Listen, I’m proud of myself if I’m not at the bottom of the DPS in heroic dungeons. I don’t current raid, I don’t try for cutting edge gear. But holy shit I was ranking 3rd at one point on the charts. I spent most of the time believing we were seriously being screwed over by a bug, but after doing a guild Zandalari run, I just realized I’m doing better than many of my guildies. And that’s a terrifying thought!
tl;dr I may actually be decent at this game
Stupid Quasi. Stoooooopid Quasi. Stooooopid Quasi:smack::smack::smack:
I checked it, Skammie and yeah, auto-loot was on, but all this time I have been forgetting to use the key (SHIFT) associated with it, so haven’t been getting all the loot at once.
Would someone just shoot me, please.
Thanks
Q
Well, hell.
I thought this might happen and it started tonight: being harrassed in-game (by kids no doubt).
Q
Harassed how? In chat, or are they messing with your gameplay? If it’s just chat, remember that you have an /ignore command.
Gameplay. Just running round and round me and through my fights. I asked what’s the problem and got a message that no player by that name was playing, so I made a ticket. At one point I thought he was helping me, so I flashed a “thanks” icon at him, and he yelled back “Not going to happen!”. It was right after that, I tried talking to him.
Q
That’s the one where you have to assist the 4 demigods. I had to abandon the one I failed, but now cannot get started again, and so, it seems, can’t a lot of other folks. We all have the “assist” quest which tells us to look for the call of heroes on any alliance board, but there’s nothing on any of them.
Anyone know what to do?
Thanks
Q
Even though I have “Auto-loot” checked and bound to the SHIFT key, when I press that key nothing happens, and I am back to right-clicking in order to loot.
When you press either the ALT, SHIFT or CTRL keys, isn’t that supposed to loot EVERYTHING the mob has all at once?
Thanks
Q
Holding down the Shift key when you right-click on a mob to loot it will do the opposite of whatever you have set for your default.
So, if you have auto-loot checked off in your Interface settings, you can right-click on the sparkly mob to automatically loot everything. But if you hold down the Shift key when you loot, the loot window will stay open and you have to click on the items you want.
On the other hand, if you don’t have Auto-loot turned on in the Interface menu, it’s the opposite. Right-clicking on a sparkly mob will open the loot window for you to click on what you want; but if you hold down the Shift key when you right-click it will automatically loot everything on that mob.
So in summary: they way you have it set up in Interface determines what happens when you right-click to loot; either it’s automatic or not. Either way, if you hold down the Shift key when you loot, it will do the opposite of whatever your default is.
I hope that makes sense!
ETA:
By the way, great article! I loved all the positive comments too.
Note for anyone using Curse client: NPC Scan was updated on the site but isn’t showing as an update in the client. Since this is the update with the new rares I figured this was noteworthy.
Skammie, I’ve tried every combination of what you wrote and I still can’t pick up all the loot from a mob kill all at once.
That got me to thinking: Maybe the converted soldiers on the Icecrown Glacier that I kill with bladestorm aren’t considered a “mob”, because they aren’t fighting me in a raid situation, and that is why I have to loot each guy instead of all of them at once?
So if I used that word wrong (even though there are 8 usually), I apologize for putting you through the trouble of answering.
Quasi
You won’t be able to loot more than one mob at once–you can’t do that in WoW. The only thing you can change with settings is whether you pick up all the loot from one mob at once or whether you can pick and choose.
I’m sorry. I just don’t seem to be “getting it”. I’m not trying to loot more than one mob. Just wanted to know if it were possible, if I killed like 8 guys, who were together on the Icecrown Glacier marching around (a daily), can I loot everything they have with one click, rather than clicking on each one individually?
Thanks
Q
Everything all eight guys have at once? No. Everything each one has (one click per guy?) Yes. Please forgive me if I’m misunderstanding your question.
I think by “each one individually” you mean item, not mob. Yes, you can loot all items at once. Click the computer icon on lower panel, click on “interface,” you should be on the “controls” screen. Make sure “Auto Loot” at the bottom is checked. Now, all you have to do is right click a dead mob and you will loot everything on its corpse without further clicks. You don’t have to use the shift key. Just right click. The shift key (Or whatever is chosen as the “loot” key) is for those who love using the keyboard. I find the mouse much easier for looting.
Just for the record, you can’t loot more than one mob at a time. If you kill 8, you have to loot all 8 individually, but I don’t think you meant that.
Make sure you have the mob targeted. If you don’t, the loot key won’t respond.
I take this back - I think we just don’t have enough people for a 25 man. We started 10 man Heroic ICC last night and it went smooth like butter. No wipes.
I think Quasi’s confusion is the word “mob.” Remember, Quasi, that unlike in real life, in WoW a mob is one single enemy/creature. If you were attacked by 8 soldiers while walking home from the store, that would be a mob; but if you’re fighting 8 ghostly soldiers in Icecrown Glacier, that’s eight mobs :D.
So you can loot everything from a mob all at once - for the WoW definition of “mob”. If you kill eight at a time, you’ll still have to loot all eight of them separately. Sorry for the confusion!
Quasimodem, “mob” in this case is not referring to a group or “mob” of enemies, but a single enemy. “Mob” is short for, IIRC, Mobile OBject.
Yes, it’s fantastically confusing. Took me a while to grasp the concept.

To further explain:
**Auto-loot is on: **When you right-click on a mob (single enemy) that has loot on it, the loot window opens and everything in it quickly transfers to your bags if you have space.
**Auto-loot is off: **When you right click on a mob (single enemy) that has loot on it, the loot window will open, but then you have to click on each individual item to transfer it to your bags.
The Shift key doesn’t do the looting for you. Instead, it *modifies *whatever default behavior you have set. If you have auto-loot turned on, holding shift while you right-click on the enemy body will stop the items from automatically appearing in your bags; and if you have auto-loot turned off, holding shift when you right-click the body will make everything on the corpse jump straight to your bags.
Auto-loot doesn’t mean that it automatically gathers loot from every corpse in the area. It just means that when you click on each corpse, those items are automatically transferred. (This is actually one of the few old stupid mechanics that still exists in WoW.)
Don’t forget: you can report harassment and the player will be sanctioned (up to and including their account being permanently banned) if Blizzard determines that they broke the game’s TOS agreement. When you open a ticket, include as much information about the harassing player as possible: server, faction, race, class, level, and name. That will make them easier to find if their name has weird characters in it. (Which is probably what happened when you tried to whisper the guy and it said the character didn’t exist.) Describe how they were harassing you, and the time and date it happened.
There’s actually no consensus on where the word came from. But that’s one of the liklier theories.
Another thing to consider is that, due to ratings decay, if you’re in leveling/quest gear at 85, your dps is not really that much higher than someone at 80 in ICC gear. You’ll have some advantages due to increased base damage on your abilities and the fact that you’re hitting bosses 2 levels lower than you, but not enough to offset the huge loss in secondary stats.
Healing is the same way. Tanks and everyone in general will have higher survivability but thats about the only real advantage.
