New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

This was a great deal more  until I remembered DKs don’t start at level 1.

I think my Skada is screwed up. Look at my (Corialis) DPS and then damage done compared to everyone else’s. It levelled off a bit further into the dungeon, with me being around 7k and other people around 9k. I was using Recount, but after 4.2 it gobbed up and made my machine lag until it was unusable so I had to go to Skada.

Also, another question. I’m having trouble with my threat management, even though I spam Misdirection on the tank. I just generate threat like a mofo (mm hunter). I understand how this comes up with AoE attacks, but with single targets like bosses it gets annoying really fast. I’ll use Misdirection on the tank, stop using my super duper specials and lean on my focus regenerating attack and I still grab aggro.

For durp of the month award, I present this: Heroic Shadowfang Keep, Foe Reaper. After a couple wipes, healer says his gear isn’t working and drops group. Confuzzled, I check his gear. He’s decked out in full season 10 PvP. Guh. So new healer comes in…and immediately hops into the Reaper and runs down the ramp and aggros the boss. Needless to say, I decided it was time to call it quits.

Okay, new here. Been playing WoW since Mar 4, 2006. I have equal number of H & A, pretty much. Two 85’s, 10 others over 80.

Do you guys play on the same realm?

Guys,

One of the commenters (commentars?) in that WoW 15 min of fame article said that since I already had explored 58% of the world, that I should take Silka and fly over the rest of it and get the Explorer achievement, so I can get the name “Explorer” as part of my title.

So okay, I would like to do that and I found an add-on on Curse that is supposed to simplify doing this, but I’m not sure how to use it. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

Q

BDBoop, the WoW guild “Burning Dog Legion” is with the Horde and they play on the Cairne server together. They’ll be glad to have you, and someone will be in touch pretty soon to get you invited, if you want to join.

What’s the name of the addon?

Joe

Seems like either you outgear the tank by quite a bit or there is a tanking issue. They changed MD in Cata so that the threat you transfer doesn’t stay with the tank but it doesn’t come back to you. If they get a lead at the pull and build up Vengance they shouldn’t have trouble holding threat over you. (Though I’m still in regular raids. Things might be different out at the edge of progression.)

:smack::smack::smack:

Sorry Joe. It is called “Explorer Coords”. It sounds like I’m supposed to see them maybe in a different color on the map, but I don’t.

Thanks

Q

Ignore More on Curse

To expand a bit on what 2sense I would suggest just one thing - wait before you start your pew pew. I know it can feel a bit crap just sitting there doing nothing but if you give the tank some time to build up vengeance you’ll find it very hard to get aggro off her. Send your pet in and dance for a bit then unleash everything you’ve got.

As Q says a lot of the people here play in the Doper guild on Cairne US but a lot of us don’t, what server are you on?
So I wrote a page or so back about how being in an active guild was making me happy? I knew I shouldn’t have mentioned anything, in the space of 4 days we’ve had guild drama over the guild bank which led to two of the founders leaving and this has started a constant trickle of /gquits. Including all the geared tanks and 2 thirds of my arena team.

Take a look at the picture here: Explorer Coords you see those blue\white circles on the map? Just fly to each of those in turn and you will get the Achievement for exploring that zone.

So take a look at your achievement list and notice which zones you don’t have the explored achievement for. Fly to it, open your map, fly to each circle wait for the ding, then off to the next zone.

martu,

Thank you, my friend! I’ll knock those out later this afternoon.

I have some characters on Cairne (and one in the SDMB guild), but my mains are all on Zangarmarsh. I have a few I play sporadically on Shadow Council, as well.

This is kinda what I’m thinking, just because it happens all the time with a lot of different tanks. I should probably also let auto-shot go for a couple of seconds at the start too.

Oh no! That sucks. My new guild is surviving a few retirements by adding new players. Plus they opened up recruitment for PvP players. It’s nice to come on and see >15 players on. I hope to learn a bit more about PvP, but they will require I go frost, and I need to be Arcane/Fire for Firelands. I go fire for Alysrazor which we finally got down last night! Woot! Apparently it helps if I don’t die. The kill brought our guild to Top 3 Horde on Cairne. We’re going after Staghelm tonight and after one wipe last night, it looks SO much easier than Alysrazor!

That’s horrible. :frowning:

I’m on Quel’dorei, both H&A, Galakrond for Horde and Silvermoon for Alliance. Moved several toons there because I’m in a lvl 25 guild. I also have my own guild for storage.

Yes, you can remove people from your ignore list. However, there’s no way to tell when you added them or why, so it can be hard to figure out which to remove and which to keep.

That’s… really weird. Your DPS is low, but your total damage is really high. My only thought is if you maybe forgot to reset the addon before or after the run, so that it’s including data from when you were solo-questing. If that’s not it, I’d try deleting and re-installing the addon. Wipe all your settings for it, too, if you can.

1.) As mentioned, MD no longer permanently transfers threat. It’s a temporary boost to the target, after which point the transferred threat returns to you. If the tank hasn’t made up the difference in the mean time, it’s entirely possible that the mob they’re tanking will just snap over to you.

2.) Hunters are like threat machines, which is why you have Feign Death. The appropriate time to use it is just *before *you pull aggro, not just after. You should have a threat meter (either use the one in Skada or have a standalone like Omen) and pay careful attention to it. (You should have alerts set up for thresholds where you’re getting to close to pulling.) If you’re in melee range, you’ll pull once you hit 110% of the tank’s threat; if you’re at range like you should be most of the time, you’ll pull at 130%.

3.) It’s entirely possible you’re also playing with shitty tanks.

<Burning Dog Legion> is the official SDMB guild, Horde-side on Cairne. A lot of us have alts there; a few also have mains or other 85s. I’ve been taking a bit of a break from playing regularly, but at the moment my main is on Stormscale Horde, and I have other alts, with the ones I play most on Area 52 Alliance and Horde, Eldre’Thalas Horde and Alliance, Borean Tundra Alliance, and Stormrage Alliance.

Congrats!

Grats, Bird. I’ve heard Staghelm is actually pretty damn easy on 10, so you should be 6/7 in no time.

We’ve had major issues with folks not showing up, or being busy - summertime, ya know. We’re hitting Alys tonight, so hopefully we can keep up our one-boss-a-week pace. I’d really like to kill Ragnaros before taking a bit of a break from raiding later this summer/fall.

I’ll see how it goes; maybe I’ll move one of my hordies over there.

I think I have to accept that raiding in wow is just not going to happen, 3 different guilds in just over a year all with problems. Tonight I’m going to start a new alt to get my mind off it all, I have yet to experience the new EPL and WPL zones which are the only revamped zones I am yet to try.

Grats on Top 3 and good luck tonight.

Thanks.
Though it did bring up a question I had: As one of the ‘flyers’ for Alysrazor and with me playing on Low-graphics settings. You’d think it’d be harder to collect the rings, but I think Wow/Blizz makes up for that by letting me hit the gates with much less accuracy than someone playing at high-graphics settings. I seem to remember something similar in Wrath but can’t put my finger on it. Anyone else notice these kinds of things?
After watching videos online, I see what others’ must be seeing and Damn! I need a new computer!

Congratulations! Yeah, Staghelm is a walk in the park compared to Alys. And then you get to beat your head on Ragnaros!

(We got him to 40% last night, after a couple of hours of attempts. But I’m not looking forward to phase 3 with the meteors. :P)
