Truth. By the end of Brewfest, we’ll all be heartily sick of everything.
I saw the same drop from Direbrew on 3 85s. Is that how it goes, or did I just buck the odds on that one?
We tried the heroics in Firelands last night. Shannox was easy. Rhyolith & Alysrazor were too tough for us. Though we did have an undergeared DPS and Tank which may be the cause, but it seems like the group wants to gear up those 2 on regular for a while. After a few attempts on heroic, we dropped back to normal and cruised through. (Halved our best time on Alysrazor) Even before the nerfs we were 6/7 on one night. Now with the nerfs, we’re gonna get everything done in an hour:P
I’m just glad we get Ragnaros down before the nerf. Feels like more of an accomplishment.
Pure RNG. If you assume there are, say, five items on his main loot table, then you’ve got a 20% * 20% * 20% chance to see the same thing three times in a row, which is 0.8%. There’s even a 20% chance that you’ll see the exact same thing again on the next pull.
Yeah, I remember last year it seemed like the tankard dropped every freaking time, to the point where I’d pick it up just because eveyrone else passed since they’d also seen it drop a bazillion times. Hell, yeah, I’ll take this purple weapon that I can vendor for a goodly amount of gold, no problem!
Yeah, it is pretty sad. I took a group of not-terribly-well-geared folks who’d never seen the fights in last night (they’re all good players–raiders from my former guild–but they haven’t raided Firelands at all) and we took down two bosses (Shannox and Baleroc) and made solid progress on Rhyolith in two hours (and a fair bit of that was taken up with clearing Shannox trash and a 10-minute-or-so break while the healing lead from my main raid group explained how to handle healing for Baleroc because I had next to no idea). I’m fully expecting to get them to Domo (and maybe even to Rag if things go really well) during our Saturday night raid. Did I mention they’ve never seen the fights?
It’s sad, really. My main raid group has H-Shannox on farm and we’re working on Rhyolith–the 15% nerf will be nice to help us make progress, but I would have preferred to down stuff on the non-training-wheels version, at least for a few more weeks.
Did anybody notice that Coren Direbrew was dropping rather insane amounts of gold mid-day yesterday, which was nerfed to the ground by the evening?
I took DK Tank #3 in there with some friends at lunchtime yesterday–he’d just bought epic flying so he was down to like 472 gold. Every time we killed Coren (which took about one minute per kill, including queue time) he was dropping between 78 and 106 gold…by the time we’d run him several times in succession, I was up to 811 gold!
Last night after my raid, I took DK Tank #1 in there to see about trying to get the mount, and Coren was dropping ~6 gold per kill. Oops! Methinks somebody slipped a zero at Blizz, or else they forgot that if you don’t limit people to running Coren 5 times a day, they’re going to be using it as a gold factory for alts.
Holy shit, no, I didn’t notice that. Either I missed out by not looking at my loot log, or it was already fixed by the time I did my run after work.
Yeah, people were calculating how much you could make per hour just tanking Coren. With insta-queues and ~18g per kill (the 78-106g Infovore quotes) it was like 600g an hour easily - you can basically do him once every two minutes or so.
Obvious incoming gold nerf was obvious.
I’m really sad I missed out on this. I’m saving up for the six-figure BOE mounts that get posted all the time on my server.
Just got out of a pug group that one shot everything up to Rag. Some people had never even set foot inside Firelands or watched a video. It was pretty fun I have to say and it was nice having some new people see content. The nerfs still make me a little sad though.
I was lucky enough to snag all the Brewfest trinkets on the first day, but the mounts still elude me. Just one kodo for my warrior is all I ask!
“Toss Your Luck”
I threw a bunch of gold coins back into the fountain and got this silver coin, but other than flipping it to see how it comes up, what is it good for?
Thanks
Q
The coin you get as a reward for completing the meta achievement of fishing up all the gold, silver, and bronze coins from the fountain? It’s just a little toy/RP piece. Flipping it to see which way it comes up is the only point. (There are also dice of various sides that will sometimes show up when a Rogue pickpockets a mob, which can be rolled in the same way.)
Okay, thanks SFG!
Q
Finally got the Kodo on my mage tonight. Still hoping to get it on the tankadin, but at least I have it on one of my toons.
Good news: Kodo dropped tonite!
Bad news: for my only toon that already has it.
Well, tonight I got fishing achievement "The Scavenger’, and it looks like up next is “Fishing Diplomat”, and since I’m Alliance and have caught and looted a bunch of fish in my territory already, that one part is done.
Now I have to go to Orgrimmar and catch “ol’ Crafty”, right?
I checked El’s angling, and those comments on strategy are from 2008, same thing on WoWhead, so I’m hoping y’all can help the crazy boy out a little and give me some suggestions as to where I can fish w/ o being attacked and killed.
Also, it’s okay to skip around in that achievement string?
Thanks
Q
You don’t have to fish up Old Crafty to get the Fishing Diplomat achievement. You just have to fish up something (anything). Old Crafty is its own achievement, and difficult. You will be killed many times getting to a “quiet” fishing spot. I recommend the pool below the waterfall in the Valley of Honor, near the Hunter guild, immediately to the left as you enter. You can /sleep while fishing to reduce your profile. You will always be subject to attack, but I think that is your best chance to avoid detection. Fish late at night.
Thanks so much, Mince! That’s gonna help out a lot, and yeah, I remember now reading one of the comments about “sleeping”…
So cast my line, write /sleep and Wolkie lies down while fishing, right, and when he gets the bite, click on the hook, and then get the hell out with a hearth?
I’m gonna practice that on my “home turf” first, 'cause if there’s a way to screw that up, you can bet I’ll find it.
Thanks also for the rest of the strategy. That sounds like it’ll be fun, sneaking in there and all.
Thanks

In “Old” Orgrimmar, the pool in the Valley of Spirits was a good place, because the guards didn’t patrol there and there was plenty of room to avoid the trainer NPCs. Now, not so much, just because of all the changes in that area, with a lot more NPCs, and no way set-back pool like there used to be.
If you’re just going after “Diplomat,” /sleep really isn’t necessary. After you die near the pond, resurrect as close to the cliff wall as possible, cast your pole, loot, hearth. You’ll be out of guard aggro range and the chance of a PC noticing you in the time it takes to cast once is very minimal. You may also want to try the Valley of Spirits for “Diplomat.” It’s closer but has less cover; but you should be able to get off one cast if you rez as far away from NPCs as possible.
However, since you’re there, I recommend staying for Old Crafty, and, if you haven’t done it yet, Ragefire Chasm. Those are fantastic achievements to show off to your friends and if you are in a guild with members on, they will get your achievement announcement and be jealous. Old Crafty should take quite a while to catch though, and /sleep will be useful. It took me 2.5 hours to catch him starting at fishing skill 220, though I don’t think skill factors into the chance to catch him. He is just a very rare spawn.
In any case, when you die, you will be at the Razor Hill cemetery and it will be a long trek back. It will be long and tedious just getting to a suitable fishing spot. Just remember to use any invulnerability abilities you may have as it will give you a few extra seconds of running, which will be precious. And don’t forget to take off your gear!
