Yup, it’s okay to do Achievements in any order you like! They’re there for you to have fun with, so there’s no structure to how they have to be completed, except for the ones that require other achievements (the so-called “metas”) or the ones that are an upgraded version of something you already have. (For instance, you could never get the achievement for fishing up 500 fish before the one for fishing up 50. :D)

As far as fishing in Orgrimmar, you might want to make a Horde toon to scout the city out first, to get a feel for the layout. You’ll want to make an Orc, since they start the closest to Org. You’ll run east out of the Valley of Trials (starting area) to the main road, and then north to the top of the Durotar zone, passing through Razor Hill on the way.

Since you can fly on Wolkie, that will somewhat simplify how you get into the city, since you’re not limited to the two entrances. However, I’m sure flying in will also trigger the guards to attack you, so you’ll want to have a good idea of where you’re headed. I’d say the goal should be to plan on dying on the way in, but dying in the right place, near a pool of water, so you can rez where you land and fish unmolested–at least by NPCs.

Whether or not other players will attack you depends very much on your server, the time of day, etc. Especially on PvE servers (which Alexstrasza is, I believe), players will often leave you alone if you’re just doing non-combat achievements like the fishing one. Of course, that’s no guarantee, but when I was working on Old Crafty, I only got attacked by one person–and after I pointed out that it was pretty dishonorable for him to attack someone in nothing but fishing gear,* he waited for me to put on my normal kit and heal up, we had a couple of formal duels, and then he let me go back to fishing.

*Yes, I put together a fishing outfit. It involves a hat, sandals, a sleeveless shirt, overalls, a belt, and fingerless gloves. I think I look pretty snazzy.

If you do make a Horde scout toon, you only have to go to Sen’jin Village, which is directly east of the entrance to the Valley of Trials, almost on the beach. You start out now with all of your starting zone flight points, so you can just go to Sen’jin Village and fly to Orgrimmar directly.

I’ve (perversely) found this to be more true on PvP servers than PvE ones. All of the guys chomping at the bit to grief someone are camping the ramp Firelands on PvP servers instead of gluing their ear to LocalDefense.
Caution, advice may not be applicable outside of Elune and Arthas, some restrictions apply, etc.

…I might do my dailies in a full Ruthless Gladiator set just to teach people why they shouldn’t attack random Alliance members. My personal best in world PvP is winning a 3v1 that the 3 started.

Wow, how did you manage to communicate that?

I’m with Zeriel - I fish in full PvP gear if I’m flagged, just in case.

Probably by starting a throwaway level 1 Horde alt and whispering the guy. I used to do that sometimes when somebody on the other side is being particularly dickish.

I forget you get all the FPs now. Is that a free flight, though?

As **Infovore **guessed, I used an alt I had on the other faction. (Or else he rolled one to talk to me–I don’t remember now.)

No. The free Sen’jin-to-Razor-Hill trip is the doggie ride. But you have to finish the Sen’jin quests first. Doesn’t really matter…if he just does the VoT quests before he heads to Sen’jin, he should have enough to fly to Org.

As a newly created orc I wonder if you can vendor all your starting armor and gear and be able to afford the flight, arriving at the big city in your loincloth.

Best way from SW to Orgrimmar? I read through the great portal in Blasted Lands and then through the small portal to O, but that can’t be right, because it won’t let me through. Anyone know a better way? MAge transport maybe?

Thanks

Stormwind to Theramore (does that ship leave the Harbor or Menethil?) to Ratchet and then fly up on Silka from there? Or you could do Stormwind to Darkshore (which I know leaves from the Harbor) to either Ratchet or the Alliance fp in Azshara then fly Silka from there.

ETA: Unfortunately, I don’t think any mage whose portal you’d be able to use has one for Org. Only Alliance cities.

At that point, you may as well just run your ass up to Orgrimmar. Less confusion with finding the elevator back down to the main level that way, too.

Probably not enough money. The starter pieces are worth a couple of copper at best.

That instruction, unfortunately, only works for members of the Horde. Same goes for Mage portals or any other form of teleport. It’s actually designed to be inconvenient to travel to a capital of the opposing faction: otherwise people would be raiding them all the time.

If I were trying to go from SW to Org on an Alliance toon, I would hop through the portal to Mount Hyjal, then fly the rest of the way myself. IIRC, you have that portal open on Wolkie.

Thanks, both of ya’. I just spent 45 minutes fishing in the Dal sewers, so I’m gonna do the Orgimar achievment tonight.

One thing about the jewel of the sewers: I have already gotten that achiement (I think it’s called “money master”?) where you collect all the coins, but is there another achievent aftr tht one involving coins, that I need to keep fishing at the fountain or should I go directly into the sewers now since it’s much quicker to get the jewely there.

'cause I tell ya, once you get a gold coin in the fountain, then for 2 minutes you fish up nothing but coins and that aggravates the hell out of me.

Thanks

Q

ETA: to SFG: yes we have that portal, thanks

1.) Fishing the jewelry out of the sewers is a daily quest. As far as I knew, the jewelry only dropped in the sewers, not in the fountain–but I could be wrong, since I don’t think I ever tried it.

2.) I just remembered that I have the Mobile Armory app on my phone, so I checked to see what Wolkie actually has. Yup, you’ve finished the coin ones from the fountain, so there’s no need for you to fish in it anymore. In fact, if you fish in the sewers for your daily instead, you have a small chance to fish up a pet: a giant sewer rat!

Oh, happy-happy joy-joy!:p;)

Q

A very, VERY small chance. Don’t go buying a Habitrail just yet, Quasi

Yeah, you can fish the jewelry out of the fountain (although it takes much longer) because it is fed by the sewers (although I have never fished up a turd).

The reason I like to fish here instead of the sewers-proper is because every now and then you can converse with someone and wind up getting a new friend. It’s also a bit of a challenge watching for your hook to bob, when (as happened today) there are as many as 4 casting at one time and the lines cross each other or the boobs are very close to each other. Thank the Saints for those little arrows at the ends of the hooks.

However, from now on, I’ll fish the sewers, although I do easily get disoriented down there.

Thanks,

Q

Thanks for the tip! Mwahahahaha!

Belfie

When Wrath launched, I think i raised my fishing from about 390 to 450 trying to get that damned sewer rat. Never did. It was Mr. Pinchy all over again.*

Although I did finally get Mr. Pinchy, long after Wrath dropped.

Usually my guild has a bajillion hunters around, but yesterday’s Firelands trash run had me…and 5 mages.

Guess what dropped?

LAVA FIRE PEW PEW PEW FLAMING CROSSBOW!!!

I could kind of tell the guild officers in the party weren’t big on me getting it, but I was the only hunter in the party, and to be honest, I’ve only been around a few months but I think I’m a contributor to the guild. I’ve always got a Seafood Magnifique around and I show up to scheduled events on time and never be an asshole about things.
