I’m not turned off by the new expansion news, but I’m not overly excited either. I’m not going to do the 12-month signup for Diablo and the other bonuses: I’m pretty sure I’m at least going to try Star Wars when it comes out. I can’t do both so we’ll see if SW will pull me away.
MMO-Champion reports an interesting little tidbit that will lead us into the Alliance vs. Horde tensions for the xpac:
Bye bye Theramore! It gets destroyed, which makes the Alliance pissed.
I assume this is where Kul Tiras enters stage left, along with their marines to take us to Pandaren.
New tabard and new weapon and armor.
The other thing: Silka (the horse), kicks up so much steam that sometime’s it’s hard to see through it, which is sometimes a disadvantage for me. It obscures the look ahead so much that it can catch one unawares…
Thanks

PS: To jay please check your bank permissions now. Instead of “veteran” I made you an officer. I hope that will work. It’s been so long since I have had to do that, I’ve forgotten all the steps.
Well, I got this off Wowhead a little while ago:
“…the easiest way to get here is to take the “stink bombs away!” daily from Gertrude Fenlow and then once you’ve finished your bombing run, just logout (while still on the broom in UC). You’ll spawn alive in the GY North of UC (near Scarlett Monestery). Then just fly to the top of the wall behind the Wickerman in UC (big straw effigy) and drop down ON TOP OF HIM, click the dousing item and voila, ur done. You’ll likely get ganked by the horde camping the area though (you’ll be flagged for PVP) but I usually manage to get the quest completed before that happens.”
What do y’all think? If I can finish that one, I will have done all the Halloween quests offered. I already did the bombing run.
Or anyone got a better idea?
Thanks

Also, the Mr. Pinchy fishing achievement: I’m thinking of letting that one go. I think he has like a .2% spawn rate, and I don’t have that much patience, but my question is, if you’re fishing in one of those lakes where he is said to be, and you’re fishing in a pool, when that pool is gone, should you keep on fishing THERE if you want to get him, or just fly all over the friggin’ place and fish were new pools have spawned?
Thanks
Q
New pools. He’ll only spawn in Highland Mixed pools, so continuing to fish in open water is a waste of time.
Well, some of those are dailies, so you can repeat them for fun and great justice. Or profit. (Or actually, some candies, which may allow you to buy the gewgaws offered by the Hallows’ End vendors in the area of those questgivers. Stuff like pets or a mini Wickerman.)
As to the basic strat proposed on Wowhead, yeah, it works. I accidentally had to do it because my stinkbombing run bugged at 24/25 (UI stopped working–could neither drop another stinkbomb nor teleport back home). Logged out and back in and found myself alive and well at a GY conveniently close to the city. Flew up, doused the wickerman, and flew back home to pick up another broom ride to drop the last stinkbomb. (Had to fly home because my hearth was already on CD.)
That’s a mighty fine fishing pole weapon you’ve got yourself there…
I want to play a monk now, not overly excited about the pandas. New talents could be great and the idea that you can change them for a small cost any time outside of combat could add an extra layer to encounters, maybe fight mechanics that will require certain abilities? Interesting.
Looking good! I really like that tabard design.
Just one suggestion: When you get a chance, you should probably consider replacing your chestpiece. Right now you’ve got one with Stam and Intellect on it, and Int is useless for you as a warrior (that’s actually a holy pally PvP piece). If you can’t find something on the AH, you can probably find somebody to craft the chest that goes with the rest of your set, which will give you Str and Stam and make you hit harder. ![]()
It’s kind of a shame I’m done with WoW. Mists touches on just about every dork nerve I have. It looks excellent.
And frankly, I’m glad they’re doing a low-key expansion. After Burning Crusade (save Outland from the big bads!), Lich King (save Northrend from the big bads!), and Cataclysm (save Azeroth from the big bads!), Mists looks like it’s a chance for a breather, at least lore-wise. Pandaria looks damn pretty and a nice little vacation spot…at least, relatively speaking for the hellhole that is Azeroth.
Heh! I was so tired after fishing till 3 this morning, I forgot to change him back! ![]()
Also Infovore: When I saw what you had written about a new chestpiece, I took off for the AH and found what I needed right away for about 500 g’s. I think that got him fixed.
Would it be okay to ask y’all every now and then to take a look at us just to see what I may need to upgrade?
One other thing: are there only certain times when you can douse the wicker guy, or can you go anytime? Seems I saw a note flash on the screen saying something like “in 5 minutes… wicker man”, but didn’t catch it all.
Thanks!
Quasi
I’m sure there are quite a few folks here (including me) who would be happy to answer your gear questions. I can’t help with specific warrior stuff since my highest level warrior is only around level 65, but my main is a DK so I know about STR plate.
The set you’re wearing now is actually a PvP set, but that’s quite fine for questing and occasional dungeons. You’d only need to worry about upgrading to PvE gear if you wanted to run heroic dungeons or raids, but since that’s not your thing, you’re doing fine. ![]()
Well, I got the wicker guy. Had to land right on top of his head like they said on Wowhead (a “surgical strike” dontcha know;)), and then I spent a hearth to get back home, but how come we’re not Wolkenlaufer The Hallowed?

Check the achievement tab to see if you have completed all of the required steps. From the menu on the left, pick world events, the scroll down in the window to see the one that says “hallowed be thy name”. The steps you have completed will be in green, any remaining you need to do will be in grey. You can click the grey ones to see what you have to do.
If you have completed all of the achievements to earn the title, you can display it by opening the character window. At the top right corner are three tabs…the one in the middle (I think) should display a list of any titles you have earned. Click the one you wish to display.
I’m still on the “Wait and see” group on how this shakes out…I am planning on playing Diablo3 along with my 2 sons when it comes out, so maybe I might go ahead and purchase 12 months anyways. I’m still enjoying the game albeit I am not hardcore in the Lore…I just like hanging with Dopers and beating stuff/others up.
HA! I’ll NEVER get all those in before this thing ends! First of all: All those masks! Oh well, there’s always next year.![]()

I just looked at your Armory page, and you still need a few more achievements to get the title. You need:
- That Sparkling Smile - Very easy. Use a Tooth Pick, which you get from trick or treating in the various inns around the world. They don’t drop often, but you should be able to get one.
- G. N. E. R. D. Rage - Earn 10 Honorable Kills while under the influence of the G. N. E. R. D. buff. You need to do PvP for this–just go to one of the battlegrounds, eat a GNERD candy (you get those from the trick or treat buckets too) and kill people. Be sure to re-apply your GNERDs if you’re killed. If you have friends who have 85 Alliance toons on your server, you might be able to kill them too. Not sure.
- Check Your Head - Use Weighted Jack O’ Lanterns to put pumpkin heads on all 12 races. You get the jack o’lanterns from the daily Headless Horseman run.
- The Masquerade - Get transformed by Halloween wands. You can’t do this for yourself, but you can save the wands you get from the trick or treat buckets and offer to trade.
- Sinister Calling - Obtain a Sinister Squashling pet. These come from both the trick or treat buckets and the Headless Horseman daily.
- Tricks and Treats of Azeroth - This one isn’t hard but it is time consuming. You need to travel to every place listed on the various Tricks or Treats Achievements (Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, Outland–you don’t need Cataclysm or Northrend for this achievement) and trick or treat at the buckets at the inns. Save the stuff you get - you’ll need some of it (Sinister Squashling, GNERDS candy, Toothpicks) for your other achievements.
You should start queuing for the Headless Horseman every day (you can use the Dungeon Finder or talk to the NPC in major cities). It’s a very easy fight, it takes only a minute or so (after you wait in the queue) and nobody will stress out if your DPS is low. After the first one of these each day you get a “Loot Filled Bag” that can contain various things–pets, candy, rare items, even a mount.) And you can do the run as many times as you like in a day–the Horseman drops a couple of rings that would be upgrades for you (one STR and STAM, one AGI and STAM–which wouldn’t normally be an upgrade but at your gear level it might).
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask questions if something doesn’t make sense.
Edit: You don’t need all the masks for the achievement!
Although if you really want to be a completist, you can buy them now from a child vendor outside Stormwind. You get Tricky Treats when you do the Halloween buckets, and those count as currency for this holiday. Go do the buckets, and whatever masks you haven’t gotten from those you can buy off the vendor if you really want to do that achievement.
They also have an incredibly cute little cat pet called the Feline Familiar this year. It’s a little black cat that wears a witch’s hat and, when you get on your flying mount, rides a tiny broom to accompany you. It’s 150 Tricky Treats at one of those vendors outside Stormwind.
You might want to do the Creepy Crate quests, too…they’re new this year. They’re not hard at all (or very long to do) and you get another pet out of them.
Plus, cooler still, the Creepy Crate eats critters! Up to and including cows! Just walk up to a critter with your Crate out and watch what happens. ![]()
G.N.E.R.D. Rage was always the “tough” one to pull off; it seems that people take perverse joy in killing someone with that buff, just to deny them kills under that state. At least it’s achievable if you can survive a little while in a battleground and have enough G.N.E.R.D.S to rebuff yourself after a death (or after expiration… they shortened the duration when they made the buff cosmetic-only).
“Having enough G.N.E.R.D.S” may come down to buying them from Dorothy the Stormwind candy and toy vendor (assuming you’re playing Alliance). She sells 5 G.N.E.R.D.S for two Tricky Treats (the currency candy). Seems a shame to spend your limited purse of Tricky Treats when there are pets and such to buy, but that’s the choice you’re stuck with if trick-or-treating around the world doesn’t give you enough G.N.E.R.D.S. to get the achievement.
Alterac Valley is classic for “farming” honorable kills while minimizing your own personal risk exposure. That’s certainly where I’ve always gotten my special-condition HKs for seasonal achievements.
