New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Grats on the legendary part 1. I too have completed that stage and will be getting my twig this week. (Last week with the help of some BDLers, I got 3/4 of the shards - still need to do Alysrazor) But I’m 3rd on the list, so Raid leader is still on the soul essence phase, and our lock is still collecting cinders. So I won’t begin to collect cinders until she’s done (or missing from the raid) And behind me is our Shaman who is starting in on eternals.

My only thing is, I have the Sho’ravon greatstaff from Ragnaros (regular) which I believe is better than the phase 1 staff. So I probably won’t be getting an upgrade until phase 2.

For Ragnaros phase 3, we usually have 2 rdps standing in the circles on the sides, and all the melee in close. If ranged get targeted, he runs to the sides and waits for the person in position to pop it back. If melee gets it, they back up and make sure that the meatball is not being kited through the tanks/melee in close and then does the same. Getting back to neutral position is what keeps it from getting too crazy. Even with the nerf, we are losing people in phase 3 when we down him.

So I finished my Delegation quest and retrieved my Branch of Nordrassil! I was right, it’s not better than the Sho’ravon, Greatstaff of Annihilation :frowning: But now I’m in waiting mode. It looks like I’ll be waiting until partway into 4.3.
I love my new title and trail of flowers even though they were temporary!
Rottingbird, Blessed Defender of the Nordrassil

The irony pleases kitty.

I need to do all the Argent Tourney stuff, but I don’t want to…ugh grinding. It’s been an entire expansion pack, Blizzard, just let us buy Champion’s Seals…

I am SO glad I got that out of the way when it was relevant.

I did grind Netherwing during Wrath, though.

Haha. Glad someone noticed.
Is that still the only way to get a mobile bank access? Cause I need one of those!

Goblins get a summonable hobgoblin companion who serves as your personal banker.

I know that a certain guild level gives a perk that lets you access the guild bank wherever you are.

Engineering’s Jeeves has mobile banking plus buying, selling and repairing. It’s probably quicker to grind for this than the jousting.

The downside is that it requires Engineering.

Well, that’s not inherently a downside (or at least, only arguably so), but if you’re happy with your current professions, it’s a downside.

You have to be an engi to use it, since it’s BoP and requires an active Engineering skill (450 or higher) to use.

That said, having a bank with a 4-hour CD is awesome. If you can stand to grind the Argent Pony Bridle* as well, you’d have TWO bank access within that CD.

*yeah, I know the point of bringing up Jeeves is avoiding that very grind. Still, I think it’s worth it.

And if you’re a Goblin engineer who can grind the Pony Bridle…

I actually do have a Goblin Engineer, but I never picked up the Jeeves blueprints. Where does it drop? Somewhere in Northrend I imagine, but is there somewhere specifically to grind for it?

Unless it’s changed, the best place to grind for it is in Storm Peaks, on the terrace of one of the Titan buildings where the little data structures float around. Kill the constructs around there (not the data structures, but the mechanical things–mecha-gnomes, I think. It’s been awhile). I think it only took me 20 minutes or so of grinding before the schematic dropped.

Thanks, that will give me something to do next time I’m bored.

Be sure to “skin” your kills after looting them, as that’s where the schematics drop, not in the actual loot table.

Thanks for mentioning that.

I have stupid good luck sometimes. I picked up the recipe in Borean Tundra, in the north end of the salt lakes with all the deranged mechanicals and mechanognomes. I mass pulled about 15 and then volley AoE’d them down. (Back when hunters had Volley. I miss Volley.) By the time I skinned out the 15, I’d gotten the schematic.

That’s my kind of grind. Hit it, quit it. Done in one pull.

YMMV.

Well, you’re luckier than me. I grinded (ground?) those Library Guardians in Storm Peaks for about 40 minutes last night with no luck - and yes, I remembered to skin them. But at least it was a break from killing Southshore pirates in Tenaris.

I don’t know if it was the full moon or what, but the weekend seemed to have more than its usually PUG ass-hattery.

On Saturday, I got a Lost City of Tol’Vir PUG with my paladin main. The tank (a Death Knight) and healer – who were brothers – basically ran off the hunter in the group because he wan’t doing enough DPS for their liking. They insulted him, told him that he didn’t know how to play, etc., until the hunter left the group. I don’t know what their problem was – yeah, he wasn’t doing lots of DPS but that’s what happens when you start running heroics.

Then this morning, while playing my level 84 hunter, I got a Vortex Pinnacle group. For some reason, after we got past the first couple of batches of mobs, the tank decided that the best way to deal with the 3 groups of mobs on the first ramp was to run all the way through them to the bottom and then try to fight all 20 or so at once. Not surprisingly, he died, the group wiped, then he and the healer got into a snit-fest over who’s fault it was. Everyone else sided with the healer, telling the tank that he couldn’t run the mobs like that. The tank got angry with everyone, and he and the healer both rage quit almost simultaneously, so that was the end of that group.

Then this evening I tried for a non-heroic PUG again with my hunter. Got the Vortex Pinnacle again (not surprising; I was doing Uldum quests, and still had unfinished quests from the Pinnacle in my quest log). We made it past the first boss, when the tank announced that “The healer can’t handle this instance” and dropped the group without any further explanation. The other two DPS and the healer dropped the group instead of requeuing, so I gave up, signed off, and came downstairs to watch the Jets-Patriots game. Sigh.

I will say that not everything was bad. I did have a very good run with my paladin yesterday afternoon. Got Halls of Origination, and we did all the bosses, 'cause the other DPS wanted Justice Points. It took a while, because the other two DPS weren’t doing much damage, but we had a good healer and a good tank, and we made it through the entire instance with only a couple of deaths.

Still, some weekends just seem worse than others as far as player behavior.

Out of curiousity, what IS the recommended DPS for a herioc cata run nowadays?

Last few pugs I’ve done, I’ve wildly outclassed the other DPS (a typical split is me at 17-19k, then a guy at 8k, then a guy a 6k).

In non-troll heroics I usually see the DPS putting out 8-11k. Occasionally someone will be up at 15-18 (making me happy) but not usually. At 17-19k you’d definitely be an outlier.

I’m one piece away from 100% Ruthless, so hey, not many people as dope as me. =P

At the moment I’m usually doing about 14K in non-troll heroics, but my Retribution spec is very well geared. In fact, during that ‘good run’ I mentioned at the end of post #10715, I was putting out the same DPS as the other two DPS put together. But most of the time, as Skammer said, I see other DPS in the 8-11K range. In fact, I’m almost always surprised these days on the rare occassion when I’m not at the top of the DPS charts.

shakes fist I think I have 4 more slots to fill with Ruthless - legs, two trinkets and main hand IIRC.
