I had about an hour to squeeze in some WoW last night, so I queued up for LFR figuring I’d be able to take down at least a couple bosses in that time. When I zoned in it said “3/8 bosses complete” so I figured I’d only have one left, which was fine.
I was shocked to find out we were fighting Deathwing! I wasn’t thinking he was one of the LFR bosses. We came close but were unable to get him down after 4 wipes (damned DPS wouldn’t kill/avoid the stupid lightening bolts or whatever). The only thing I got out of it was the Stood In The Fire achievement. And the realization that I need to bring a +Spirit flask with me next time, because it’s a 12 minute fight and my mana got sucked dry well before that.
Well yes, Deathwing is now part of the raidfinder, but 3/8 makes it sound like you were fighting the 4th boss, Hagara the Stormbinder which takes place on a platform amongst the stars and has a lightning effect where people have to drag it around the platform. That and the ice phase are usually raid wipers. (esp in Raidfinder)
The final boss Madness of Deathwing takes place on rock-platforms in front of a swirling firey vortex. I’m not sure if there’s lightning since I haven’t done it yet.
I got through Ultraxion in 2 hours last night, leaving 2 hours tonight for Blackhorn and Spine (and Madness if we can get that far).
That Blackhorn fight looks chaotic as hell! And as a mage, I’m not so good on the move. I’m still arcane. I tried fire and wow did that suck! I even reforged per wowreforge.com, but my rotation must’ve been screwed or perhaps you really need different type of gear.
Nope, I’ve done Hagara. Last week I did the first 4 bosses but this was definitely the Madness of Deathwing. Maybe I misread it and it was 7/8, but I didn’t think so.
Fun night for me last night!! Got three new pieces of gear!
First, on my 8th try, the last boss of Well of Eternity finally dropped the Agility Staff, then jumped into a BH group to kill the new boss and got some PVP bracers, and lastly my Guild was able to kill the first 4 bosses in normal 10 man Dragonsoul (we only got 2 bosses the first week), and the 4th boss dropped the agility ring!

It can either be Deathwing or Hagara now. The LFR divides the instance up into 2 halves, I happened to get into a 3/8 on Deathwing this morning. Yes it was at the Maelstrom with Deathwing and all his tentacles.

It’s a really healing intensive fight, the group I was with two shot it but our healers were able to work out a cooldown rotation so we didn’t all blow our cooldowns at one platform. On the final attempt I was actually OOM on the last platform before Deathwing’s head comes down, thank goodness for innervate and mana pots (I actually had to find them in my bags, since I took them off my bar). All I can really say is don’t be afraid to use Divine Plea when it’s up and judge like it’s going out of style. There are spots when you could probably use a concentration potion as well. Keep cooldowns like Auramastery and Avenging Wrath for the last couple of platforms and Deathwing. Then just pray your DPS can kill the mini tentacles before they kill everyone.
My new raid group is 3/4 as of last night. I’m being asked to heal after being promised that I could tank, a little disappointed but as long as I can help the group progress it isn’t that big of a deal. It was actually fun coming up with a strategy to help us beat Zon’ozz and I think we’ll get Hagara on Thursday. So far so good.
Will the raid finder drop you into a group in progress at any point? Every time I’ve used it I end up back at the very first boss, regardless of what I’ve killed, so I’m guessing it doesn’t take into account the bosses you’ve already downed.
I’m really looking forward to doing the second half of the Raid Finder; I want to see how different the Madness fight is compared to the 10 man version. We got Spine on Monday and made some serious progress on Madness–I think we’ll get it this week, but we still need to coordinate our healing and tank cooldowns on the fourth platform–things would be melting, melting, melting, and then all of a sudden the tank dropped like a rock because he was one second late on hitting his cooldown. Ugh. Fun fight, though. Really looking forward to getting it down, even though my DK tank is stuck DPSing because he’s too squishy compared to Mr. Uber Paladin (yeah, I’m a little bitter about that–I’m tired of being limited by the fact that my class is too squishy and spiky for the fights that do a lot of damage. But hey, at least stuff is dying!)
I was really happy about last night–I raid with another team (they used to be a server first raid team, admittedly on a bad server, but they’re a solid bunch) on off nights–I’m the raid leader, and I can take my knowledge that I get from my main team and use it to help them. We’re still somewhat undergeared, but I managed to lead them through Yor’sahj last night, calling slime kills correctly and helping us get the kill on our last attempt before we quit for the night. I think we could have gotten all four of the first bosses, but the GL insisted that we start in Firelands so we only got about an hour on DS. It was kind of satisfying how those FL bosses melted for us, though (all except Rag, whom we don’t quite have yet).
With the 4.3 changes judgement no longer returns mana directly, so you only want to judge once per minute to keep up the buff instead of judging on cooldown. It can be a hard habit to get out of for a holy paladin.
Yeah, I found myself Judging more than I needed to just out of habit. But my Judgements no longer auto-target the nearest mob anymore either, so I’m glad I don’t have to re-target as often anymore.
As for Divine Plea, I was using it almost on cooldown although I tried to time it for the leaps across platforms. Used a mana pot too but didn’t think about Concentration potion, thanks for the tip. I also need to bring my own food buff next time since no one laid down a feast.
I wonder if it would be worth it to swap in my Alchemy Stone trinket for the 40% flask/potion buff, even though its a loss in other stats… I’ll have to look at the numbers.
I was questing with my hunter in the Twilight Highlands, and was working on the quests where you get dropped into the Maw of Madness. Once there, you have to do a quest to protect one of the Shaman from the Maw’s defenses. That quest is a no-win quest; eventually you will get overwhelmed and die.
When that happens though, you end up respawned at the Maelstrom, with Thrall standing there. He says he’s revived you to help fight Deathwing. You accept the quest to fight Deathwing, who’s hovering just off the rock. However, you can’t actually do anything - Deathwing’s not attackable, etc., and all you can do is just stand there while Thrall yells at you. Not a fun quest, and really freaked me out the first time I did it.
Well, this time I got disconnected from the server immediately after respawning at the Maelstrom and accepting the quest. When I relogged, I was still at the Maelstrom, still had the quest, but Thrall wasn’t there. Nothing was happening (except for Deathwing, who was still hovering around the rock). I sat there for 10 minutes twiddling my thumbs hoping that the quest would “end” (since you can’t do anything in that quest when it’s working correctly). When nothing happened after 10 minutes, I tried dropping the quest. Still not Thrall. I hearthstoned out, and went back to the Maw of Madness, but the followup quest there isn’t available to me.
I guess I need to open a ticket and see what can be done…at the moment I can’t continue the current quest chain, and I can’t get the feeder/breadcrumb quest that’ll let me move on until I can.
Ugh. I’m having something similar on my alt–I’m trying to do the Vash’jir intro quests to get the seahorse for herb farming, and the Defend the Briny Cutter quest never progresses. I fought waves of naga for a solid 20 minutes last night without the second part of the quest sequence starting.
Quasi, Auctioneer wouldn’t work for me through Curse, I had to go to the Auctioneer website and download their Beta version before I stopped getting errors.
Queued for LFR last night and woot! They were on the next-to-last encounter (the one that starts with you para-dropping on Deathwing’s back). Wiped once on that fight and a couple of times on the final Madness of Deathwing but it was satisfying to get him down. Unfortunately we had, like, 4 holy pallies so I didn’t win any rolls. At least now if I stop playing for a while I’ll feel like I saw the climax of this expansion.
Yeah, those “pseudo-cinematic” quests are notoriously buggy. The one at the end of the Vashj’ir zone
where you get into your respective faction’s submarine and attempt to defend Neptulon
bugged out for several of my characters in spectacular and sometimes deadly ways. Although never “stuck” to the point of needing GM intervention, like you are with “The Worldbreaker” quest.
I wish Blizz would get it through their heads: we don’t need quests which are just “sit back and watch the movie”. Especially if they’re prone to phasing errors.
ETA: A comment on Wowhead indicates you may be able to get the questline back in sync.
Yes, I Googled the quest and found the same information on Wowhead that you did – gives me hope that I can reaquire the quest chain and all will be well. Just have to find some time to dedicate to it; it’s not the sort of chain you can just stop in the middle.
I still think the whole “Thrall faces down Deathwing” is a stupid quest, since you can’t actually do anything during it.
It’s not even a real quest…it’s a dream you have while you’re knocked out. I was all “WTF?!” when I couldn’t even do anything…I thought something had gone wrong with my UI. Then I realized you were SUPPOSED to feel like a useless failure because that was what the dream was about.
I don’t mind the cinematics, I just wish they didn’t bug so hard–I actually kinda like the immersion increase.
I like the scripted ones where you can interfere but (silently) not accomplish anything, like the Vash’jir one I’m stuck on or the Thrall vs. Deathwing one even more. The latter was awesome for me–I was so immersed I was hammering on my keyboard in frustration, and then I finally just sat next to Thrall and waited for death. Despite having read the achievement and knowing full well there were dream sequences on that quest chain.
Exactly. And that the dream is about failing to step up and be the hero…it goes right back to the whispers from Cthun in An’Qiraj, the Old Gods playing with your head.
Another problem is the Vegetable Stew recipe. I have all the ingredients (including the pot), but can’t get that recipe to show in the window that shows all the edibles. I checked the “have material”, but still nothing. I looked for both “Sewer Stew” and Vegetable Stew, but no go. What am I doing wrong, guys?
Is that the daily quest? If you have all the ingredients, I think you just right-click on the pot in your inventory if I remember correctly. It’s not a recipe you learn and will show up in your cooking window like the others.
