New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

I have come to love Holy Nova all over again now that I ridiculously overgear heroics, having discarded it long ago as way too mana-inefficient. It’s especially big fun in the Culling of Stratholme.

Oh yes, big fun in CoS. I love running ahead as the priest and just ripping through all the little zombies.

It’s actually tactically useful (as long as you’re ridiculously overgeared and have way too much mana) in the bit after the secret passage; helps clear out all the cruft and let the DPS see what they need to focus on after the tank runs way ahead (as he usually does).

Yeah, I’ve always used it in CoS to clear zombies. Last night was the first time I decided to challenge myself by using nothing but HN.*

*Although in OK, I did finally have to toss a Greater Heal on Rottingbird. Poor little mage was too fragile for the two pallies and priest beating on him. The only other challenge was the limited range of HN compared to other healing spells.

(moving misc chatter from the “help two noobs” thread per the OP’s request).

If you’re a DK (and maybe a Shaman, I don’t know if they get to Water Walk mounted) you can also run straight across from Darkshore to Ruth’whatever Village. You’ll get fatigued, but make it back into friendly water at about 10% fatigue left.

Interesting - I assume that anyone could do the same with a Water Walking potion, then. I have a stack of those from the fishing dailies.

Jabloo the troll hunter got his Mining to 300 yesterday and headed through the Dark Portal, becoming my fifth toon to get that far. He was about 25% of the way to lvl 59 when he arrived in Thrallmar, and holy crap, he dinged 60 just by doing the quests out of Thrallmar and a couple out of Spinebreaker Post. Without any rested XP bonus.

I wish that they would make sure that the icon for a crossbow actually looks like a crossbow. I got a quest reward that I thought was a bow but turned out to be a crossbow (yeah, my bad for not reading the tooltip more closely). I equipped it and sold my old bow, and didn’t realize my mistake until my next combat when I started missing left and right. I’d forgotten that I’d trained in crossbows at the Weapon Master, so when I was able to equip the thing it never crossed my mind that it wasn’t a bow. Fortunately, though, it didn’t take long to get my skill up.

I also put together a “town” outfit for Jabloo. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy. Floppy, lavender, wide-brimmed hat, white swashbuckler’s shirt, and a pair of khaki pants. He looks like he’s ready for a relaxing stay at Shady Acres Retirement Community  Alas, I neglected to take a screenshot and now I can’t get one until maintenance is over.

IIRC, neither Water Walking from a Shaman or the elixir will allow you to mount, or be castable on someone who’s mounted. If you try to just run across the water, you almost certainly won’t be going fast enough to reach Rut’theran Village before the fatigue kills you. A Shaman or Druid *might *be able to do it in their respective travel forms.

I remember all of (or at least a lot of) mine looking like crossbows.

As is appropriate for a Troll. Don’t forget that picture once the servers are live again!

Are travel forms even as fast as a regular mount? It’s do-able with a fast mount, but there isn’t a whole lot of wiggle room.

Nope. Travel forms are between 20-40% (I think it varies by class, not sure), regular mounts are 60%, epics are 100%.

I was sitting here going “huh?”, then realized you were talking about the Insanity phase against the final boss. :smack:

At one point in last night’s run, Kene threatened me (the tank) with “Don’t make me break out another spell!”

I know I’ve run across with my husband, with him playing his shaman and insisting he knew where to run across. I’m pretty sure he’d cast Water Walking, too. I’ll have to remember to ask him about what the deal is.

Nope. I want to say that a Hunter’s Aspect of the Cheetah/Pack is a 20% bonus and travel forms are 40%, but don’t hold me to that.

I seem to recall people running across or swimming across as Druids pre-WotLK, but that might have been fixed out of the game.

Water walking elixers most definitely do work while mounted. I use them all the time. Much faster than swimming.

Good to know. There’s definitely something that won’t let you cast it on someone who’s mounted… If it’s not Water Walking, it’s gotta be Levitate.

Yes, Levitate will not work while mounted. You could be thinking of that.

That’s probably it, then.

So, would anyone be interested in an Alliance side, 10 man raid group come Cataclysm? I’d be looking to be fairly casual (1 raid night a week, maybe 2) just to allow some of us access to the content w/out going nuts (My current guild does 3 nights a week; If I were to do that, I’d have no other damn time to myself! I have other games to play! and a Guitar! )

And here we go!

All he needs is a glass of lemonade. And a croquet mallet

Here’s a minor puzzle. When doing Culling of Stratholme, my draenei mage of course is magically disguised as a human (since draenei didn’t exist in Azeroth at the time this is taking place). Here’s what she looks like. Is that a custom model? Because I really liked the look and tried to make my own human toon that looks like that, but I simply cannot find that face on the character design screen. I don’t know if that’s because it doesn’t exist there, or if it’s simply a difference in lighting that is making the matching face look way different.
