New WoW General Discussion Thread 6/8/10

Transferred!

Angel of the Lord, I don’t know from 'Locks, but have you checked the Warlock forum on EJ? I know the Warrior forum right now has a great thread with the basics for all three trees (spec, rotation/priority, and stat priorities), and there might be something similar for 'Locks.

Along with seconding SFG, I’d say it’s a possibility that the other locks you’re falling behind just have better gear. In particular, tier set bonuses are often a big source of “lost DPS”. I don’t know the relative value of those bonuses for locks, but for some classes it can make a huge difference (up to 500 DPS for particularly powerful ones).

Another common culprit is latency. A good cast bar mod that can put up a latency “pre-cast” timer can help with this. It will tell you when you can start a new cast and still have the previous one go off.

What?! Transfer back, dammit! We need tanks!

I’ll roll another. Leveling is easy

What nights do you guys raid, anyway? I’ve got a reasonably well geared DK tank (this is my second DK, not my ICC25 geared one) that I’m not doing anything with, and I’ve always kind of wanted to go hang with the Doper WoWers, but the tough part is finding time. I suspect your raid nights will probably coincide with my main guild’s.

We only raid as a guild on Monday nights at 9pm server time (10pm EST).

And tanking-wise, my bear Druid should be geared enough for ToC possibly as early as next week (if I spend time chaining heroics with him) so that’s an option as well.

Maybe not winterhawk – our current raid night is Monday. You don’t see a lot of serious raiding guilds waiting until the end of the week.

Hmm, yeah. Possibly. If nothing else I might be able to fill in some night in a pinch if your regular tanks aren’t available. Let me check and see what kind of gear he has–he might not even be geared as well as I remember, but that wouldn’t be too hard to fix, especially since I’m well acquainted with all the fights as a DK tank.

Z’D is awful because it’s full of vehicle and “remote control” quests. In order to get around all of those, I ended up at level 80 teaming up with another paladin and doing the arena quests

Is that what’s going on with the little red bits on IceHUD’s cast bar? Before I started using that, I had already discovered that I didn’t have to wait for one spell to go off before I started casting the next one - I just had to mentally time it right. That seemed to match up later with the red bits on IceHUD’s cast bar, but I’ve noticed that the red bit changes size from one cast to the next.

So some time back I was talking about how I liked the look of the human disguise my draenei mage gets in CoS, and I wondered if it was custom art because I just couldn’t seem to find that face when I went to the character generation screen and tried to make a human toon that looked like that.

I tried again, though, and apparently the problem was a combination of [apparently] lower resolution on the character creation screen, lighting, and view angle — on the creation screen, you’re sort of looking “up” at the toon (or at least it feels that way). These things combined to make the face in question hard for me to recognize. But I finally found it!

And now I have a human female mage on Argent Dawn, my RP server: Andraiya. I’ve decided she’s going to be a standup comedian. She told her first joke last night:

“I was walking around Northshire when this Defias chick came up to me and asked if I was up for some hot girl-on-girl action. So I said, ‘Sure!’ … and fireballed her!”

Right. It guesses at how long it took the game to register that you cast the spell and times it for you so you can send your next spell at a faster, more efficient rate.

What the hell? A queue of 1000+ to get into Cairne? Did they discover gold in our rivers or something?

Probably because a bunch of servers are down for 24-hour maintenance, and the people on those servers have rolled alts on Cairne (and other “up” servers).

Also, instead of coming up at 9am PST (Noon EST) today like they were supposed to, they didn’t come back up until 3:30 PST due to authenticator server maintenance.

And now Cairne is marked as “New Players”, so it likely shows up at the top of the list for bored alt-rollers.

Hope I can get on for my ICC10 tonight.

… is horrendous, though, y’all! Is it that way for anyone else?

To illustrate, I ported through to SW from Dal and there was a HUGE diff in motion. Much smoother.

I know a lot of that has to do with population, but are there fixes for this?

Thanks

Quasi: Two ways to handle lag in Dalaran – 1) Turn down your graphics settings, or 2) upgrade some hardware. Well, there’s also 3) play during off-peak hours when fewer people are on.

So my rogue has gotten pretty lucky the past couple weeks. I just remembered last week that VoA drops Tier gear, which would save me a ton of frost badges should the rogue tier gear drop, so I started looking for pugs after WG battles.

Last Monday, I got in VoA 10 and picked up the T10 legs. Enchanted and gemmed them. Tuesday rolls around, and I decide to try VoA 25, and ended up winning the Sanctified T10 legs. And had to enchant and gem those, too. I should’ve waited!

Today after logging in, I put myself into the raid browser for both VoA 10/25 and got picked up for a 10-man class run. I get the T10 gloves! Right afterwards, I get into a 25-man and … ended up winning the Sanctified T10 gloves as well, haha. Now I am 3/5 T10 – just 37 more frosties to get the T10 chest (I already have the helmet, and my shoulders are already 264 from ICC25), but if I get a 264/277 chest out of lootship this Saturday, I’ll downgrade the shoulders for just 60 frosts instead for the 4-set bonus and use the remaining frosts on a 264 throwing weapon.

My guildies are all wanting me to blow on their dice, now

Dalaran is like Ironforge used to be back before they put auction houses in all the capital cities. The high population is going to cause lag, unless you use the fixes that HeadRush mentioned. Either going into your video settings and turning the graphics down, getting a better video card, more memory or a new computer, or playing at 2AM (on weeknights…weekend hours are even later, probably around 4 or 5). The bright side is that at least you’re not going to be fighting in Dalaran, so lag won’t kill you (unless you’re wandering around down in the Underbelly in that sewer pipe that leads to the outside).

Reminder: Wednesday night classic dungeon run for the BDL tonight. I’d really like to get Magister’s Terrace out of the way so we can but the Burning Crusade behind us.
