New Year’s Rant Solutions (January mini-rants)

Noted. For the record, that was directed towards the arbitrariness of the convention, not towards your opinion of it. Clumsy of me, I suppose. Again, my apologies.

I work in a virtual call center. I am aggravated by callers who think they are fluent in English but are not. Today, I had the following conversation

“Marital status?”

“Black, African.”

“No, sorry. Marital status?”

“Black, African.”

“Is he married?”

“Yes, to me.”

Grrrrrrr.

I get it now, you were attacking the nitpickiness, not trying to nitpick.

Clumsy, yes, but your heart was in the right place.

The bar at chez Wolfpup opens at noon and doesn’t close until 9 am the next day. On special occasions we open at 9 am. :tropical_drink:

Well said. Any time of day is suitable for a Bloody Caesar or a Bloody Mary.

On days when there is live horse racing at the local track, we run an over/under pool on how many Caesars the bartender will make during the race card. She keeps track (ha!) of how many she makes; winners are named after the last race is declared official.

Since most of the local racing occurs in afternoons, and a few evenings, that ought to indicate that any time of day is appropriate for a Caesar or a Mary.

They have vitamins which make them health drinks!

By the way - IT’S FEBRUARY!

Yes, we know that, you silly but cute little canary. We’re just trying to carry on a previous conversation. It’s called “continuity”!

Thank You PSE&G! Thank you for repairing our Hot Water Heater!

In 1/2 an hour, enough water will be heated that we can shower again.
( NEVER take for granted the horrible grunge you feel/smell when you can’t even have a tepid warm shower in winter.

PS- Take an ice cold shower in winter? What kind of Neanderthal throw-back are you!? )

That would be 24/7; why would you want to ruin good vodka with tomato sauce? ::shudder::

Where to begin?

Okay, first of all, tomato sauce is not the same as tomato juice. I’m not even sure if you don’t know that a Bloody Mary is made with one and not the other, or if you’re just throwing shade at tomato juice as a beverage.

Secondly, my palate is so untrained that I have yet to be convinced that any one vodka is any more “good” than any other vodka (which is why I buy store brand or equivalent). Sure, if I offer to buy someone a drink in a bar, and they ask for Tito’s, I’ll get it, but when I order a Bloody Mary, the well is fine.

And third, I’m unclear on the concept of “ruin[ing]” vodka. Maybe by dumping it on the floor? But I tend to call that “wasting”.

Sounds more like vodka sauce if you’re referencing tomato sauce and vodka.

Vodka sauce is decent on the right kind of pasta but I wouldn’t drink it as a cocktail.

Of course not! Tomato juice and vodka.

I think the trick is to save an old empty OJ container from the recycle bin.

Then you refill it with half of the tomato juice, add the spices to taste, and shake it like an old school hardware store paint shaker. When it is empty, you make another batch and toss out the tomato juice can ( Much less expensive than V8 in the plastic bottle ).

From there, you’ll just need to keep the ingredient refills on your shopping list and keep making batches. [/Evil]

Here’s how it works, boys and girls.

Vodka by itself = excellent martini w/ice and an olive. Of the common brands, the taste differences are subtle but they exist. IMHO:

  • Absolut = overall best taste and value
  • Tito’s = subjectively just a touch beneath Absolut, but opinions legitimately vary
  • Grey Goose = overpriced, favoured by pretentious snobs
  • Smirnoff = the first choice of the non-discerning, better than swill

Tomato sauce with vodka = excellent pasta sauce esp. with ravioli

Vodka with clamato juice = the official delicious signature beverage at chez Wolfpup

Vodka with tomato juice = not actually a drink

The “you” was a generic “you”, given that it was someone else who brought up the tomato sauce.

My point is that tomato sauce and vodka isn’t a cocktail, it’s a pasta sauce. (With cream and garlic and herbs of course.)

Just a brain fart (it was a long day yesterday); however tomato juice & ANYTHING? I’ll sooner keep crawling thru the desert in hopes of finding the next oasis, TYVM.
