Welcome to Twenty-Twenty-Sucks (January Mini-Rants)

Continuing the discussion from 'Twere the Rants Before Christmas (December Mini-Rants):

It’s a new year, and illegal fireworks have been going since it first went dark. Which given the time of year means it has been going for many hours. My dog is going nuts and keeps looking to me to make it stop, as if I can control these assholes.

Bring on the new year with a headache.

They’re annoying the hell out of me here too, and even rain doesn’t stop them!

Fortunately, the cats don’t seem to be upset, and DH is apparently managing to sleep. I’m going to be up a while, though.

Fortunately, they only started here around midnight and only lasted for about 30 minutes. My dog also hates loud noises like fireworks or gunshots, so I gave him a calming chew in the evening, and he slept through all the hullabaloo.

We seem to get fireworks almost hourly where I live. We used to joke that since we had so many neighbours in our area from different parts of Europe, they were setting off fireworks at whatever time new year was being celebrated in their home countries. The cats weren’t happy about it at all, two of them kept running around the house looking for different places to hide, and one of them went completely to ground.

No fireworks this year in my neighborhood. But then we got 8 inches of snow last night … :grimacing:

My son was super excited about New Year’s Eve yet he fell asleep, as you might expect, at 10:30pm. We tried to wake him up for the festivities right before the ball dropped but he went down hard.

Mom and Dad collapsed in bed after midnight, exhausted, only to be roused at 3:30am by my son’s uncontrollable weeping and anguish at having missed everything. It took a long time to calm him down, poor thing.

Needless to say, I am exhausted today.

Didn’t hear any fireworks around here, not even gunshots from the target shooter who lives nearby.

Sounds like asshole neighbors were widespread last night. People in my neighborhood started setting them off by 8pm and I think they finally stopped around 2am (or at least, that was the last time they managed to wake me up).

I can’t even imagine how much money they all spent on fireworks!

The thread title reminds me of Rump and all of the children he invites to Mar-A-Lago and The White House ( possibly to this day ).

There were very few fireworks by me last night; possibly due to less disposable income?

We heard fireworks but they don’t really bother me. They usually sound like they are at a distance. They are prohibited in the complex where we live.

I’m still really tired. I’m trying to clean my bedroom but I keep getting distracted by how tired I am.

Giant Grocery stores Reusable bag pricing. The bags are marked at $1.75 and have a that says that says that $1.00 of every purchase will go to charity, and the bag includes a tag with a code that you can use to select your charity (or failing that it will go to one chosen by Giant.)
To me that means that I pay $1.75, of which 75 cents goes to Giant and $1.00 goes to charity.

But it rings up at $2.75. So the $1.00 donation is added on to the cost of the bag. Also there is no way to purchase a reusable bag that doesn’t include the $1.00 add on. The bags should either be labeled at a price of $2.75, with $1.00 of every purchase going to charity, or else be labeled as $1.75 with a $1.00 charity donation required for purchase.

Meanwhile I also strongly suspect that Giant is presumably counting all of these as charititable gifts from the company itself when it comes to tax time.

I can’t help wondering about the legality of the way this is being done.

Update: I just went to Giant and they raised the price to $2.75. So apparently someone clued them in that what they were doing wasn’t kosher.

They’re prohibited in my entire city but were being launched by idiots across the street from us.

That’s what I’m thinking. Around here it usually sounds like a war zone. But last night there were some set off for a few hours before midnight and midnight was relatively quiet and it all pretty much ended by 12:30. Three of the cats still hid. They lived outside for many years and haven’t gotten used to being safe from the noise yet. The other two have been in for several years and know they will be ok and ignored it.

I found one beach shoe this morning, the problem is i have two feet. Haven’t worn ‘em in a year. Gave up & wore my old Keen’ s instead but it was surprisingly shell-free today but it wasn’t exactly the warmest beach day ever.

That seems like a good problem to me.

Unless you’re Jeff from Coupling.

Careful you don’t blow out your flip-flop.

You might step on a pop-top

( Cut your heel & have to cruise on back home… )

We were right by (a) Margaritaville!

Right - Windows. Why the hell did you just move all my open windows from one screen to the other? Ah well, putting things back to where I like them gave me something to do for five minutes.
