New York Dopers Check In Thread

Eve does not have internet access at home. She lives in Jersey. If she hadn’t gone into work yet when it happened I’m sure she stayed home. So it may be a while before she can post. If anyone has her home number give her a ring.

Checking in. Me and mine are all right.

Eve works in midtown, and SaxFace did, though I think she may be out of town now, so they should be fine.

I’m glad most of the NYers seem to be safe.

The smoke’s flowing over this part of Brooklyn right now (also Vix’s, Sua’s, Biggirl’s, delphica’s, and SaxFace’s part of Brooklyn)…luckily, there’s a strongish wind, which keeps it moving…and it stings the eyes.

I got Pianola and Banjo home from their school in Brooklyn Heights via bicycle by 11:30: the Heights was under a yellow cloud at that point, and I wished I’d brought a dust mask. I gave Pianola a bandanna to tie over her nose and mouth so she could cycle home, and put Banjo on the back of my bike and told him to hold on tight to my belt.

The Ukulele Lady had taken her bicycle to work in midtown, and got home about an hour after we did…had to cross the East River on the Queensboro Bridge, but there were loads of friendly cops who were able to direct her from Queens to Brooklyn.

So we’re all here safe, with the windows shut tight.

Good news, Alessan and Ike.

I can hear the fighter planes overhead but I can’t see them. Their sound is a dull roar that punctuates the screaming of the emergency vehicles. I’m home in my uptown sanctuary, where things almost seem normal. I had a bit of a walk getting there from my office, but it was nothing next to the woman who worked on Broome & Hudson who had to go home to the Bronx.

Thank you all for your caring. My pad is also open to all comers, whether they need a place or not. You all know how to reach me. I will be home all night.

I have a feeling my flight to Houston will be postponed.

I think Eve’s normal commute takes her to places well away from the Trade Center complex.

Her office is close to a high profile potential target, so I’m pretty sure they evacuated it quickly.

She doubtless can’t post, but I’m confident she’s OK.

[edited to remove specific information – Eve’s pretty private. -manhattan]

She gets up at the crack of dawn to get to work, which is near a high profile potential target. She was probably in Manhattan when it happened. But there are few strictures on getting OUT of NY right now, so she was probably able to get home.

Good to hear that our New York dopers are OK. I’m thinking of y’all today.

I just spoke with Eve. She’s staying with friends on the upper west side.

I was on 30th Street and 1st avenue. I was far from the collapse.

However, as the smoke clears and the wreckage is removed, it will be the job of me and everyone else working for the County Medical Examiner to help identify all of the victims of the plane crashes and building collapses. It will be a 24-7 operation for as long as it takes. A couple of weeks at least.

Part of me is too horrified to show up to work tomorrow and part of me feels like I should be there right now helping out.

This is my second day of my job.

Alphagene, man, I will be keeping you in my thoughts as well. Dear Goddess, what a job.

Yikes! Alphagene I can only guess at how tough this is gonna be for you over the next few days(weeks).

You too will be in my thoughts. It will take a lot of strength…

It is with such relief that I have been reading this thread to see the New Yorkers checking in. Have we had any word from Zev or cmkeller yet?

I hit submit on my last post and my boss came and told the NYC people to start trying to make their way home.
I just got in. It took about 5 hours. Walking down my block, people were pretty much subdued. Even now, almost 8 hours after the first attack, people are still looking towards the skyline in disbelief. The smell is awful. Even closing the windows won’t keep the smell out.
The WTC is gone. There is a huge plume of smoke where the buildings are supposed to be.
Are we all accounted for? Vix, you don’t know how relieved I am to see you post. Maeglin, Sua and even you, eggo whom I’ve never met-- Don’t ever scare me like that again!

It’s a great relief to hear that all you NYC Dopers are OK.

Alphagene, you’ll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Has anyone heard from Cartooniverse?

So who is still outstanding?

This is capacitor plugging in. I made it through the day, thank goodness.
