For those in the UK lucky enough to live in Newcastle and Northumberland.
Newcastle Brown Ale ice cream?
I think I just came in my pants.
WANT IT! It sounds so good.
I am going to have to break out my ice cream maker and attempt to give this a try. I don’t think this will be all that hard to duplicate.
I have had Guinness ice cream before (served with an apple tart). Yum!
Thanks for that, Reeder. I’ve got good contacts in Northumberland and my shipment is on its way. Yum.
I make Guinness ice cream - but it doesn’t keep well - it tends to separate over about three days. The key feature of the ice cream, though, is the dark malt, so I can’t just transpose the recipe.
everton, let us know how it tastes, and I’ll see if I can concoct a home equivalent.
Heck I’ve tried green curry ice cream (yummy), so I’d give this a try as well. The garlic ice cream I passed on, that didn’t appeal at all.
BigNik and JavaMaven1, where did you find your recipes? I’d like to try out unusual recipes, if you don’t mind sharing.
I get Guinness ice cream at a local store here. It honestly tastes a lot like coffee. I can see where if you take stout and add a bunch of cream and sugar it might end up something like coffee with lots of cream and sugar…
Here they offer some kind of beer float…dark ale with ice cream. The first time I saw this on the menu, I gagged and commented that NO ONE would ever order anything so disgusting. About that time, a waitress meandered by with a tray…upon which resided eight of these things, headed for the table next to us.
From all appearances, everyone seemed to enjoy these things VERY much.
Each to their own, and more power to ya’…but…BLECH!!!

It’s been done.

Back in the mid 1970s some of my friends would make ice cream floats with San Miguel dark. Then again, they were also madmen.
