Well, I saw the clip last night. You know, THE CLIP!
NBC had a show last night that showed the most outrageous momemts in game show history. I laughed my ass off! About half way through they started doing teasers that they had found this clip. I actually got a little excited about finally seeing it.
It was the last clip of the show, and while she didn’t say, “That would be in the butt, Bob”, she DID say, “In the ass”. Her husband’s response? “In the car” Pretty funny stuff. And she still didn’t seem to have a clue what the question was really asking.
For those who don’t know, the question was, "Where is the weirdest place you’ve ever wanted to make whoopie (or something to that effect)?
It was settled a while ago, I think. It must have been either here or at Snopes (linked from here) that they had the clip available for viewing a few months back. I LOVED the fact that it was broadcast yesterday. I had, of course, told people that I had seen the clip (online and earlier on TV years earlier), but I was told that no, I hadn’t seen it, since it was just an urban legend and didn’t exist. It’s quite frustrating to prove to someone that something did happen (even though you’re 100% positive it did) with no proof, if the thing has been tagged as an UL.
Bob Eubanks did say that last night was the first time it was ever shown on TV. I guess there were copies floating around, but according to him, never seen on TV before.
I thought Bobby overdid the “I really didn’t want to show this, buy they made me” routine. I loved the look on the husbands face; 95% total embarassment, 5% intrigue.
They showed the clip on The Man Show at least 6 months ago.
Besides, the funniest clip on the show last night was the one from England (I think) where they were revealing a picture bit by bit. The picture was a cartoon character walking with a cane, but it looked like the thing was masturbating due to how they revealed the picture. And it only got worse until the last block was removed. I was literally ROTFLMAO on that one.
I loved the clip of “Name that Tune” when the lady identified the song “Help Me I’m Falling” and then she got so excited that she was right that she fell down!!
Not to make excuses for Eubanks, who insisted for years that nothing like that had actually happened, BUT (forgive the seeming pun)…
Perhaps part of the problem is that, in every telling of the story I’d heard, the couple in question was black, and it was always supposedly the HUSBAND who said, “in the butt, Bob.” Invariably, the husband was made to sound like Barry White, or maybe Chef from “South Park.”
So, MAYBE Eubanks was just denying the stereotypically racist re-telling of the incident (the real couple appeared Middle Eastern, and it was the WIFE who made the faux pas), and just didn’t remember the actual event (after taping hundreds of episodes, each with SOME such tacky incident, one can forgive him if his memory of any individual show is hazy).
That was a great show. The dumb answers part was hilarious. I was pounding the table after the clip of the Family Feud where three people misunderstood the question “Name a question such as ‘How old are you?’, that many people lie in response to.”
Depends on what your definition of “is” is. Both times I saw it were on TVs that didn’t have cable. So it’s certainly been on broadcast TV before, though I can’t swear it was on one of the Big Three, which is probably what they meant by “network.”
