News IQ Quiz: What Do You Know?

9/12

11/12, missed the Federal Reserve one.

Me too. If I had thought about it more though, I’d have remembered that the Sunni minority was running Iraq under Hussein.

11/12, missed the Shia/Sunni question

on to wikipedia! I really should know this.

11/12, missed the federal reserve one.

12 out of 12 and i’m not American. I did guess a couple though.

12 of 12, and any guesses I had (two, I think) were not random, but educated.

Yup, same score, same wrong answer.

I also got better than 86%, but I was very close on the unemployment rate. I think they listed 9% and 6%, which are both pretty low numbers.

12/12, but then I listen to NPR almost daily, and got a couple spoilers from readers

9 out of 12.

You scored better than 96% of the public, below 1% and the same as 3%.

I missed the Sunni / Shia question because I second-guessed myself. I thought the correct answer was too obvious to be right.

7\12 I don’t watch or read the world new at all. I guessed on most answers.

I got 3 wrong. I mix up Sunni and Shia, and even when I don’t mix that up I forget which countries were lead by minorities of the opposite. (I know Iraq was minority ruled under Hussein, and that it was the opposite of Iran, but not whether Iran was minority ruled as well.) So, that was a crap shoot.

Silly me for the other two. I should have known the minimum wage was higher than what I picked, and with interest rates so low, that my answer couldn’t be correct. The one I picked was true in past years, though.

The rest were pretty easy.

I’d like to see someone calculate the significance of your outcome; I bet it’s not terribly significant. If we assume you got the first three right, then the most likely outcome would be to get 1/4 of the next 9 right, say two of them, for a total of 5 instead of 8.

But bear with me here: how could it possibly be inaccurate? The questions might not be measuring anything meaningful, but I do believe that the correct answers are correct, the incorrect answers are incorrect, and that the scoring is done honestly. You just got lucky and picked more than your fair share of correct answers. It happens, just as people can walk out of a Las Vegas casino with more money than they brought in.

10/12. Since these were rather US-specific and I’m not American I don’t feel too ashamed.

8/12

Ditto on the score. Thought that we had more (people who were poor).
