RIP.
His stuff on King of the Hill was great. He was a pretty good musician too.
RIP
Also, no relation.
I was never crazy about “Feels So Good”, but I loved his album Land of Make Believe, which my folks used to play on 8-track in the car when I was a kid. The title track is a masterpiece. (Of course, I didn’t get the line about the “King” who “had a dream” until I was much older.)
He was the local Golden Boy. (And he had a brother, Gap, also a jazzman, that had a long career.) This will cause weeping in the streets.
I mostly know of him from King of the Hill, but that show made him a legend in my mind.
RIP
This has been a bad week to be an old celebrity.
Now who’s going to perform at the grand openings of all those Mega-Lo-Marts?
Yep.
It feels so bad…
What comes to mind when most people think of “Feels So Good” is the flugelhorn main melody. What is often overlooked is the brilliant guitar work by Grant Geissman.
There was a parking garage near my old workplace that played his stuff in their elevator.
And yeah, I liked his “King of the Hill” appearance.
But I was never a big brass instrument fan. I don’t dislike horns, but I never rejoice when they’re the featured lead.
My favorite of his was “The Hill Where The Lord Hides.”
My brother is a big fan so I grew up hearing CM, playing in the background, loudly. Said brother would be stabby at the thought of him being classified as B-list.
I guess he is famous to some people, but the only reason I know his name or music at all is because of King of the Hill. As far as current fame goes, he makes Kenny G look like Kenny G.
I’ve often wondered what the back-story is on how he got involved with King of the Hill. It just seems so random.
Apparently he was a friend of Mike Judge.
I just found out from an article that we went to the same high school. He was a decade older so we never overlapped. I knew he was a Rochester kid but I never realized how close of one.
Feels So Good got a lot of airplay when it came out, that’s how I know his name and music. (Well, ‘that one composition’ anyway.)
“Feels So Good” was the theme to some local community events show when I was a kid, so I always associate it with that.
