Mr. Suh, would you care to use me as a leg rest? Very good then.
Leslie Frazier has got to be beside himself… Bevel has to run simple shit to hide Ponder and everyone is jamming 8 9 in the box to stop AP… Vikings are gonna regret reaching for him… he still locks on his recievers… Jennings stole that pick six from him so easy…
When Frazier gets fired he’ll walk out to his car saying… 'And I never drafted that bum from Tallahassee."…
Lions… well they’re just the Lions… they are an immature team with an immature coach… we always talk about QB’s…finding the right head coach and staff is pretty difficult too…
Frazier had pretty much the same facial expression all day on Sunday…it was the expression that a person usually has when he thinks he might be smelling a fart.
Week 3 Matchups:
(Sun., Sept. 22) Browns at Vikings, 1 p.m.
(Sun., Sept. 22) Packers at Bengals, 1 p.m.
(Sun., Sept. 22) Lions at Redskins, 1 p.m.
(Sun., Sept. 22) Bears at Steelers, 8:30 p.m.
I expect the Vikings to bounce back from their two losses and win this week, especially after the Cleveland’s white flag trade. I’d like to see the Bengals take it to the Packers (of course) but this is one of those games that seems like it could go either way. Redskins are reeling right now but so are the Lions. Steelers are actually the underdog Sunday night against the Bears and are having issues on offense. The Bears are coming off of two dramatic wins and are looking to step up with another victory.
My picks: Vikings, Bengals, Redskins, Bears and you can take that to the bank.*
- The bank of a nice river where you can sit back and relax and have a nice afternoon. Maybe do a little fishing or just enjoy the day. Winter’s coming, you know, so you’re there aren’t going to be many nice days like this left in the year.
I’m predicting a Bears blowout. An absolute ass whipping and the national media will spend the next 3 days talking about what disarray the Steelers are in, barely saving any breath to say anything nice about Cutler, Forte or Marshall.
I’ve been predicting the demise of the Steelers for 2 years now, last year they exceeded my expectations by managing 8-8 but this year the wheels are coming off in a big way. 4-12 will be a blessing. I think this Bears game, in primetime, will be the moment the rest of the country finally stops giving the benefit of the doubt.
Now, I say this while holding my breath, Cutler has made a habit of collapsing in primetime games thus far, and this could be another one.
I can’t imagine the Brown’s players are all that excited to play when their ownership and GM basically said that this year doesn’t matter, we’re playing for next year’s draft spot. The Browns’ defense is pretty darn good, but I can’t see their offense putting more than 17 on the board. Vikes in an easy win, unless Ponder throws 3 picks again.
Barring mistakes and both teams playing well, I think the Packers are the better team. Unfortunately, you can’t count on the Packers playing mistake free football. With their injuries to their secondary, the Packers can be beat in the air (as Kaepernick showed in WK 1), but I’m not sure Dalton can do enough to overcome Rodgers and the passing game. Double AJ Green and hope to God that your safeties don’t fuck up an entire game again.
I wouldn’t say the Lions are reeling, they lost a game on the road to a tough defense. The Redskins, however, are reeling. I expect a high scoring, air it out game because neither defense is better than mediocre. I’ll give the nod to the Lions 'cause they’re at home.
Can’t they both lose? Although the Bears’ front 4 have been less than awesome, they get to take advantage of a horrible offensive line of the Steelers. I expect the usual: the Bears look good against a bad playing team.
Here’s an article arguing against the “Bad Cutler at Night” assertion.
The numbers are pretty close between the day games and the night games. I think the biggest difference is that the night games are marquee matchups for the prime time audience, so you’ll generally see a better opponent.
I guess reeling for the Lions isn’t the right word that I was looking for. I was looking to mention that Bush was injured and then I kind of dropped it as I wrote this line and that’s where it got me. But yeah, the Lions aren’t “reeling” like Washington clearly is. But the Lions are going to have to find a running game somewhere.
No, it’s like Thunderdome. Two teams enter, one team leaves. Then the other team leaves. I guess it’s not really like Thunderdome.
Maybe the Thunderdome have a kiddie theme park attached. There, two teams enter, have fun, try hard, and everyone’s a winner.
By the by, I am really liking listening to Martellus Bennett. That guy is a hoot.
The fact that Bennett can catch passes and make plays is sweet but everything that comes out of his mouth is just an awesome bonus.
I had no idea this is a “thing”. I’ve said it a few times the last few years but never noticed anyone else writing about it.
Wish whoever wrote that would have segmented the stats a bit more for the last 3 years with the Bears. My theory is that the difference would pop, though you could just blame sample sizes.
Nate Burleson is out for the season. Appears he broke his arm in two places after he reached to get a pizza that fell off of his seat, and crashed his car.
PrideofDetroit says that Suh is being investigated for throwing an elbow in the week 2 game against Arizona. Looks like he slapped the back of the head of his blocker to me. I’m not sure what the punishment would be for this?
Looks like he got double teamed, blocked out the play, and retaliated with an elbow to the helmet. Any possible benefit of the doubt Suh might want is all but gone.
I highly doubt he’ll get a suspension, and maybe not even a fine. But it is just the latest example of a douchebag being a douchebag. And that kind of behavior, even if not fined, results in shit like this.
I don’t know if he got him with the elbow I thought he got him with the hand. Not that it really matters, the intent was the same. Suh is a douche and I don’t doubt someone is going to cheapshot him down at some point. It sucks as a Lion fan, he is so good at his position that you want him on the team and at the same time you get tired of his antics.
Is that footage from an $8 camera phone? I can’t figure out anything in enough detail to make a judgement.
I mentioned it in another thread, but I am developing a man-crush on Martellus Bennett, not for his play on the field, but because he is an awesome interview. He now has a gig on a local Chicago radio station (WSCR) on Monday’s at 5:00. If you get a chance, give it a listen. He’s hilarious.
Week Four:
(Sun., Sept. 29) Bears (3-0) at Lions (2-1), 1 p.m.
(Sun., Sept. 29) Steelers at Vikings (0-3), 1 p.m.
Packers (1-2) BYE
It’s the battle of the century! Who will go on to be 0-4 and who will be 1-3? Cassel’s starting, Ponder’s hurt, I don’t see the Viking’s offense being much better and Steelers are looking to show they’re not as bad as their record says. Steelers with the win.
Bears and Lions will be tough. On the Bears’ side, Melton is out for the year and Tillman has been hobbled, which will hurt their defense’s play against Johnson. On the Lion’s side, Burleson broke his arm grabbing a pizza while driving and is out and I predict Suh will do something fine-worthy. The Bears win this and show that they are who we thought they were, all the pieces are in place, failure is not an option, Rex is our Quarterback.
Packers have the bye, so they’re not going to lose this week. That’s nice. They’re looking forward to playing the Lions next week.
I missed the games this weekend, so I didn’t get to see live the Cutler-riffic Bears game or the QB controversy starting win for Minnesota. Luckily, I was in Vegas playing poker instead, so I really didn’t miss anything.
The Minnesota game looks like it would have been fun to watch. Of course, a big part of that is watching Steeler Nation get so despondent, watching Rapey Ben failing on a last minute drive again, and seeing All Day look like one of the greatest RB’s of all time. I am not buying the Cassel hype train, too much YAC’s and a bad Steeler secondary for me to buy in, but, again, I didn’t see the whole game. A good time for the Vikings to have a pushover like the Steelers.
The Lions/Bears game I caught only a little bit of, and it was fun seeing Jay being Jay. Matthew Stafford got the “not as bad as Jay” benefit as he threw a pick, fumbled, and had another fumble at the goal line that popped right back to him (but it wasn’t luck, I’m sure). The Bears defense get 3 turnovers, but they couldn’t overcome the 4 from Jay. The Lions are now top of the division at 3-1.
The addition of Reggie Bush has that offense clicking like crazy. With Megatron taking the secondary’s attention, the underneath stuff to Bush is wide open and he’s taking full advantage. They will be tough to contain all season (well, at least until Bush gets hurt again). Suh and Fairly had a big game, and no personal fouls, so there may be progress. If that secondary can avoid meltdown games, this team could be a legitimate playoff team.
The Bears can look to a nice game from Jeffrey (nice downfield blocking on that Forte TD) for a bright spot, but there has to be some serious questions about that defensive line and the play of their safeties. The Bears have long lived on that back of that defense and seeing them struggle despite getting 3 turnovers cannot help Bears’ fans sleep at night. It will be interesting to see how the team deals with their first taste of adversity.
The Packers were on bye, hopefully getting a bit healthier and having more time coaching up that defense.
Next week, the Bears have New Orleans at home and the Packers play the Lions at Lambeau. It should be a fascinating weekend of NFC North football.
I can’t believe I am going to actually type this, but with the NFC north drawing the shitastic NFC East and AFC North as division matchups this year , The Lions have a legit shot at a 12-4ish record.
