I’ve read speculation about just canceling this week and moving to the end of season. I doubt that will happen. Someone’s got to win the NFC East and Washington and Dallas have already played, giving them a bye on that make up week.
Jeremy Chinn, rookie for the Panthers, just scored two defensive touchdowns on successive plays.
My girlfriend and I are watching the Cardinals’ repeated attempts on goal-to-go situations, and she asks me, why can’t the center just pick up the ball and lean forward into the end zone? Is it a rule that he has to snap it back? And I had to confess, I don’t know the answer.
8-3 Cleveland Browns indicates that the NFL will definitely be cancelling this season.
Refs tried to conduct an absurd injustice today. Jags had 4th and 10 down by 8 points with like 3 minutes left in the game. Browns sacked Glennon for a big loss. But because the tackler’s helmet was within… I don’t know… a human body length worth of distance of Glennon, it was unnecessary roughness and a free first down. Jags scored but couldn’t convert the 2, so it didn’t matter, but that was an absurd gift to give the Jags to get back in the game. There was nothing questionable or dirty at all about the sack.
Damn, I can’t see the Denver game. Can someone please tell me how they’re using Hinton?
Yes:
SECTION 6 - PUTTING THE BALL IN PLAY
ARTICLE 1. BALL IN PLAY
The offensive team must put the ball in play with a snap at the spot where the previous down ended, unless the enforcement of a penalty moves the ball to another spot or the down ended outside the inbounds lines.
ARTICLE 4. LEGAL SNAP
A snap is a backward pass. The snap must be received by a player who is not on the line at the snap, unless the ball first strikes the ground.

So, could the center drop it, then pick it up, and run with it?
0-7, 2 INT’s so far. Half time. A few okay runs. 17-0 Saints.
I believe so. The second sentence of Article 4 that I didn’t quote above is:
If the ball first strikes the ground, or is muffed by an eligible backfield receiver, or quarterback under center, it can be recovered and advanced by any player.
Interesting, thanks. I wonder if this has ever been tried.
There’s a trick play called the "fumblerooski" which is kind of this idea, though in a fumblerooski, the snap usually goes to the quarterback, who then drops it or sets it on the ground to be picked up. However, as the NFL and NCAA have made an “intentional fumble” illegal, the original version is now effectively illegal at those levels, though variations, like the “Bumerooski” and “Bounce rooski” are occasionally tried.
Nebraska used to run the ‘fumblerooski’ play where the center sorta rolled the ball back about a yard, and the guard picked it up and attempted to run.
But I’m not sure how the center could snap the ball backwards, then pick it up and run forwards. I’m having a hard time envisioning that play.
And…ninja’ed by @kenobi_65!
Great minds think alike, @Railer13.
It’s probably not a good idea in almost every conceivable scenario aside from the aforementioned trick play, and even then it’s pretty risky. “Any player” includes the defense, and the center has the defense directly in front of him, he’s not going to get very far, if he goes forward at all.
Shoulda signed Tebow - for a game.
Trubisky still sucks, but he’s clearly better than Foles. That’s pretty much the entire takeaway from this game for me.
Also Robert Quinn is a waste of a locker.
Quinn is just not a very fortuitous name in NFL circles these days.
Well, that was a fun Packer game.
The return of Allan Lazard was nice to see. For all the ballyhoo about not drafting a WR high or signing a stud free agent WR, it seems the Packers are OK (just OK, not great by any stretch) at the WR position with him and MVS’s deep speed. Of course having Davante Adams makes things a lot easier.
Outside of garbage time, the defense looked pretty darn good. Kirksey is still a liability in coverage and there were too many longish runs, but the turnovers were nice. I hate to count on turnovers, though; they can hide a lot of deficiencies. Still, it was nice to Preston Smith show up, and that Darnell Savage/Jaire Alexander combo looks great (and will be very expensive in a couple years).
The Bears, meanwhile, were the Bears. The defense, however, wasn’t as good as it has been in the last couple years. I agree with Omni, Robert Quinn is a waste of $30 million guaranteed. And without Akiem Hicks, their run defense is pretty rough. The offense is what we’ve come to expect from the Bears. Just awful.
It will be interesting to see if Nagy makes it to next year. I think the Bears are loathe to drop him in season, but unless there is some improvement in that offense, he’ll likely be gone. Will Ryan Pace go with him is another interesting question. Imagining the Bears with Mahomes or Watson instead of Trubisky makes me smile, though.
Outside of fantasy, I have sub zero interest in the MMF game, Eagles are going to get stomped.
Was just noticing how many interesting non Christmas movies are on Amazon Prime now!
Will Fuller suspended 6 games for PEDs. Even in a Covid era, some things never change
