NFL 2021: Week Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Okay Google says the Mannings are contracted for 10 MNF games this season. Their next one will be in week 7.

And another TD drive.

How long do I have to wait until I can slag on a L.A. teams’ fanbase in for getting shown up by the opposing teams fans?

Considering what it is, it doesn’t seem overly out of proportion to me.

Come to think of it, it’s kind of weird that there’s a logo at all. I would think they would just use the NFL shield like they do in New Jersey.

Herbert is the real deal. He can check receivers with the best; he finds the 3rd and 4th option. That’s the guy who kills you, not the guy who throws it and sometimes connects with option 1 or 2.

Like you said, they got it together a bit in the second half, but 3-0 was flattering for them, with two OT wins and a win against the Steelers. 3-1 is probably about right for them.

The Chargers are good. This was the game people envision when they name the Chargers as the breakout team before the start of every season. They have the talent to do well, if they can just keep healthy.

Also I want to say that I loved that fake punt play in the first quarter. 4th down around midfield, so it was a good spot to try it. The punter saw the open man, and made a decent throw. Then Renfrow diagnosed the whole thing and defended it perfectly. Just a great play all around.

Just be play the contrarian here a little, I don’t think this was quite as much of a boneheaded heave as you all are characterizing it. Heineke sees that he has McLaurin 1-on-1 in the back of the end zone and he sees that the defender has his back turned the entire time, essentially face guarding McLaurin. It’s a classic 50-50 ball to his superstar WR and the playbook says that if you get Terry 1-on-1 in this situation you give him a chance.

It looks a lot wilder than it is because the protection breaks down just as he’s wanting to deliver the ball. He slips the sack and sees that no safety help has appeared so he heaves it just before a second defender hits him. The second defender coming in makes it appear at a glance that he’s just blindly chucking it to avoid the sack, but you can pretty clearly see that Heineke knows exactly what he wants to do with the ball once he sets his feet after escaping the first pass rusher. He saw the matchup, wanted it, was forced to deliver it late, but the risk was small considering the situation. If you pay attention the safety help was 25+ yards away when he cut loose. There’s really a very small chance that something bad happens in this case, really as long as Terry keeps his feet he can at least play defense if the DB manages to get his head around. The odds of him getting a DPI is really good and if you watch the reverse angle, the fact that no DPI was called is a travesty.

It just gets worse for the Jets.

Marcus Maye is one of their best players but forgot to tell the league about a DUI arrest and leaving the scene of an accident charge back in February. Maye is injured now, but has been to focus of trade rumors. Now he’s looking at possible suspension.

Worse for the Jets? They lit it up Sunday against the Titans, who frequently make the playoffs. Wilson was lights out in the second half, chucking it all over the field with great success. He all of a sudden looked like a real quarterback, and his receivers stepped up now with Crowder back (from covid) to complement Davis.

Both New York teams looked pretty darn solid, in fact. Of course the Giants were playing the scrotty Saints, and both teams had to go to overtime to get the win, but still. I’m encouraged for both, and I bet both teams are feeling pretty good about themselves right now.

I will say, though, Zach Wilson has the most punchable face I’ve seen since Philip Rivers. Isn’t there a German word for a punchable face?

Backpfeifengesicht.

I’d like to add Steve Belichick to the “most punchable face” contest. He’s currently being meme-ed for his facial antics against the Bucs, but his combination of resting dick face, the occasional mullet, and the fact he’s nepotism personified has him atop my current list.

Ha! Yeah, that’s a good one.

I mean, nepotism in the NFL is practically a family tradition!

And that article doesn’t even mention the Ryan boys.

Or Britt Reid (and his penchant for drunk driving and sending children to the hospital).

There’s Kyle Shanahan, but at least when he joined his father’s staff in DC, he was perhaps already the better coach.

Yeah, Steve Belichick does indeed look like an alcoholic hillbilly who lives in a shack with his common-law wife/half-sister. But the nepotism that got him his job is absolutely par for the course in the NFL and not at all remarkable.

That’s what we in the biz call cocaine face.

Jags owner Shad Khan really turning up the heat on Urban Meyer.

‘Must regain our trust and respect’

There’s obviously a lot more here, Meyer isn’t the first NFL coach to cheat on his wife and that isn’t related to how well he can coach anyway.

Perhaps it was Meyer’s decision to stay behind in Ohio after the loss rather than returning to Florida with the team. That definitely doesn’t look good for a struggling coach.

Somehow I think it’s inevitable that Meyer pulls a Petrino during the season.

Call me a meathead if you want, but this whole thing is complete bullshit. Is Urban Meyer a hypocritical piece of shit? Absolutely. Is he a terrible husband? Maybe, maybe not. We’re not his wife and only she can make that assessment. Did he “embarrass” the league or the Jags? No, not one bit. Certainly not when you compare this to the actions of most every player, and to be frank, to the actions of every single person who has ever flirted at a bar. This is basically a witch hunt because he’s unpopular. Fuck this cancel culture bullshit.

So Shad Khan hasn’t made a peep about all the losing, or the embarrassing manner in which those losses are occurring, yet he’s Johnny-on-the-spot about his HC going to a strip club? I certainly don’t agree with Meyer’s behavior, but it seems like if I were the owner of that franchise, I’d be much more concerned about the pathetic, actual product I’m producing, about which as far as I can tell, he’s said nothing.
