It was 4th and 3 and they had literally gone nowhere on the ground (Pats finished with -1 rushing), but still, they should have gone for it. Make the first down and the FG, and you still probably lose but at least you force Brady and the Bucs to earn it. Miss it, or don’t make the 1st down, you’ve neither gained nor lost anything. Bill’s math failed him on that one.
I noticed that, too. I assumed that the network covering the game placed a microphone to pick up the doink, just in case the situation arose.
This is knowledge after the fact, but Folk had practiced before the game in heavy rain, and apparently told the coaches that he felt like he was good up to 58 yards. With the streak he was on, I think you go for the kick, but I admit it’s close.
On a different note, as a WFT fan I enjoyed what I could follow of the game yesterday, but getting updates from fans on Twitter is sub-optimal. I would happily buy a “WFT package”, but alas, given the spread of game rights across multiple platforms, that’s a dream that’s far away. But a good finish from them, anyway.
Never mind, the Internet where I am is total shit today (I’m in a resort in Mexico).
There was a minute left and TB had all their timeouts. But if NE gains the first down and stays in bounds, they should have been able to run the clock down to where there wouldn’t have been enough time for the Bucs to score after a made FG.
Even if NE had made the FG, there would have been plenty of time, with 3 timeouts, for TB to gain 40 yards and kick their own game-winner.
I agree with you…Bill made the wrong decision on 4th and 3.
This was an insane play that they don’t show in most highlights of the game (most recaps only have the final TD). Should not have thrown it, and it should not have been caught, yet both of those things occurred.
I’m wondering if in an attempt to protect the confidence that his rookie QB had built up over the game, Belichick decided to give the win/lose moment to Faulk instead of Jones.
That all sounds typical for a Belichick presser. Someone asks a question, Belichick treats the question, the questioner, all other journalists present, and all members of the journalistic profession in general as sniveling idiots. The poor journalist who asked the question attempts to clarify or ask a follow on, but eventually just collapses in a nervous puddle.
Oh that’s ridiculous…and what an idiot that defender was I hadn’t seen it, thanks.
That was a terrible, terrible pass. Fortunately, it was terrible, terrible, terrible coverage in the end zone.
This makes me remember a trip I took up to Boston several years ago. The pub I stopped at had the local sports channel on and Belichick apparently has (had?) a regular segment during the season where he explains football concepts from the previous game that the casual fan might not understand. And he was actually engaging and interested and personable, which was a complete shock after years of only consuming the press conferences.
Based on that and stories from former players, he clearly loves the Xs and Os of the sports and is perfectly willing to really discuss football with interested parties but also clearly has little use for media storylines and answering variations of the same dozen questions game after game.
Still has, and yes, he has a completely different personality on that show when they start going through the X’s and O’s. He really does love breaking down a play and talking about all the things he sees going on during it.
Raiders-Chargers delayed due to lightning – in an indoor stadium?!
Update: Urban Meyer is probably some burnt fucking toast. A new video emerges, and it ain’t good.
#Healthproblems!
He’s also an encyclopedia of football history. He is (no joking) a genius at that kind of thing. And yeah he gets excited and almost bubbly at times.
I haven’t been paying much attention to the Raiders so far this year (although I did shake my head at a “Derek Carr is MVP” headline), so I didn’t realize they were 3-0, and had beaten the Ravens. Watching them tonight, I am shocked this team could beat even the Steelers. Weird.
I think the Chargers are starting to come into their own offensively. Justin Hebert is the real deal. I think the Raiders are a playoff team, but maybe the 10-6 type, as opposed to the 13-3 variety.
What is the playoff cutoff now, do we think? 11-6?
Are they not doing the Manning brothers anymore?
EDIT: That Charger’s logo at the 50 yard line is just ridiculously too big.
And, of course, the Raiders prove me wrong with a nice drive for a TD. Good to see a team not giving up on the run despite being down.

That is the question - 10 wins might not be enough in the AFC.

Yah, where the hell are the Mannings?!
