And so begins the Kenny Pickett era in Pittsburgh. Who could have guessed Trubisky wasn’t very good.
Once again Daniel Jones doesn’t appear to be able to throw the ball; most of his yards and both of his touchdowns were running. On the plus side, Saquon Barkley is also running, and running hard.
The problem with a running quarterback, of course, is they break. So Jones is now out with an ankle and Tyrod Taylor has to come in. Come on Tyrod, pull out the win, let’s get a quarterback controversy going.
I just saw the most bizarre fucking playcall. Atlanta had the ball on their 10 yard line or so, it was 2nd and 8 or something, and the Browns defense ran a cover 3 where the DBs were like fucking 50 yards deep. Like a hail mary coverage. The deepest WR was running a route at like 25 yards and there was literally no one in the television frame when they threw to him. There was like a 30 yard gap between the linebackers and the DBs and he just sat in it. It was basically a free uncontested pass in a tie game when the Browns had them at their own 10 yard line on an unremarkable 2nd and long. Utterly bizarre.
Of course Taylor is also a running quarterback, and the problem with running quarterbacks again is they break, so of course he looks gimpy now after a big third down run. Does that mean Davis Webb comes in? I think I saw that the Giants resigned him. He was the backup they cut years ago for ineptitude.
ETA: Holy shit, I guess they didn’t. Jones has to come back in despite being gimpy. They’re lining him up wide as a decoy and snapping to Barkley. We got some Keystone Kops shit going on right here.
Jones calls the plays in the huddle, Barkley takes the snap, RPO every play. The only question is which running back will run it: Barkley, or will he hand off to the other running back?
Third and five Jones is lining up to take a snap, oh shit…no joy, hand off for 1.
If the Giants manage to win this game it will be a friggin’ miracle.
Game tied 20-20. 4th and goal on the 4. 4:09 on the clock.
I know it’s old school, but I’m kicking the FG there.
Heaving a ball into the end zone while backpedaling should probably be a lower option indeed.
I think the old school play is to go for the touchdown and rely on your defense to force them to punt out of their own end zone if you miss it.
What game are you talking about?
Ravens/Bills.
Maybe Harbaugh knew the refs were going to give the Bills the calls, like an imaginary roughing the passer.
Ravens gotta let the Bills score a TD now.
Or not. Interesting coaching.
4-0 !!!
Scorigami!
Seahawks 48 Lions 45
I like it when scores are that high.
Guess they both have great offense, not so good defense.
I haven’t seen it, but I’m guessing that the Harbaugh post-game press conference was interesting. Strange decision, stranger call on 4th down at the 4 yard line with 4 minutes to go. The absolute worst outcome is throwing a pick in the end zone which puts the ball at the 20 yard line.
It certainly looked to me that Allen talked the ref into throwing the flag on that play. Josh Allen is a heckuva quarterback, but he has had some actions on the field that are quite unlikeable.
Man, that seems like an unusual scorigami. I would have figured that there would have been a 48-45 game at some point in the NFL before. Both score figures aren’t that unusual.
I’m not watching the Packers-Patriots game, but in looking at the online box score, I see that a guy named Bailey Zappe is now playing quarterback for the Pats. Did Hoyer get hurt?
Fun to see the Giants and Jets both winning. Second time this season!
While watching the second half of that Jets @ Steelers game, I was happy for fans of both teams with their young skill positions: Wilson to Wilson or handoff to Hall for the Jets, Pickett to Pickens or handoff to Harris for the Steelers. Could be fun for years.
Hoyer was injured during a sack… Patriots are only winning because Rodgers just threw a pick-six.
Very harsh take on the Tagovailoa situation which I happen to completely agree with. Note that at the 7 second mark, he gets to his feet, looks fine, jogs forward several steps, and then drops to his hands. Even I know that when a person does that, something’s seriously messed up. And on top of that, it’s a short week!
What especially baffles me is that he was supposed to be an emerging phenom. We even had a thread speculating which team would get him. (It’s right there in the title!) Maybe he wasn’t quite the gamebreaker everyone was hoping for, but he made definite improvements from '20 and '21. Why didn’t the Dolphins organization protect their star? At the absolute minimum move him to backup for one game and do more rigorous tests to see if the brain damage really isn’t that bad.
And of course, that means that the Bills are in all likelihood going to run away with the AFC East. Coming back after being down 20-3 against the always-tough Ravens was really, really big. There’s been plenty of talk on sports television (particularly Speak) that this is going to be the Bills’ year, and right now they have as good a chance as anyone. (Toughness under fire, a red-hot quarterback, and getting that one BS call when you need it is always a lethal combination.)
You know what, screw it, just because I feel like it, I’m making a prediction. If the Bills make it to the Super Bowl this season, they’re winning it. I really don’t see anyone in the NFC that can match them with everything on the line. Biggest stumbling block is probably the Chiefs.
