NFL 2023-2024: Super Bowl 58

I get that. But I’ve loved hating the 49ers for awhile now. The funny part is that I don’t hate the current team. It’s a strange feeling, like not hating the Yankees. (well, not quite that strange)

Really? If $10,000 is less than a day’s pay? That doesn’t seem “financially irresponsible.”

For me, I really want Trent Williams to get a ring. Dude should be a 1st ballot HoF, a cancer survivor, was fucked over by Dan Snyder and the Commanders, and seems like a genuine good guy. Is my love for him enough to overcome my distaste for Kyle Shanahan and my hatred of MAGA fans? Hopefully.

I still hate the team, I just don’t hate most of the players. In fact, I’m very much a fan of them.

It’s so weird. I love Kittle and Purdy and McCaffrey and Samuel and Bosa and Warner and Armstead… They are such good players and I’ve never seen anything to make me dislike them as people. They’re really likeable.

But the team as a whole can just go fall into purgatory for eternity as far as I care.

It’s weird because if you ask me what is the team if it’s not the players or the coaches (I don’t even hate Shanahan), and I have no opinion of the owners or the GM. It’s just the 49ers so eff 'em.

This sums up my feelings towards the Cowboys.

Allow me to cordially invite you to join my “Nick Bosa is an Asshole” train.

He:

Is a Trump supporter.
Has to scrub his social media in the runup to the NFL draft because he consistently liked racist and homophobic tweets/posts.
He’s anti-vax.
His girlfriend used the n-word.
He’s a fucking whiner.
He sided against Colin Kaepernick.

The guy is a great player, and a complete asshole. Do not like him.

Crap so he’s like another Aaron Rodgers.

Okay thanks, now I have someone to hate. :+1:

He’s Aaron Rodgers, but with an extra dose of white supremacy.

The difference is Rogers won’t shut up about anything, while Bosa made an active decision to not give a shit about anything but football for the last four, five years. And he’s apologized.

I keep forgetting its Sunday. When the Ravens didn’t make it, I lost interest.
I will watch for the commercials, and I’m not really rooting for anyone.

You mean he made an active decision to maintain as non-offensive a public profile as possible for the sake of his career.

Not to say that’s an entirely bad thing - public shaming is supposed to work this way - but that hardly makes him a good person, either.

I re-watched some of the Chiefs @ Ravens (that’s the AFC Championship game, for the politics-loving, people-hating, folks here who don’t know what a football even looks like, LOL), and also the Raiders @ Chiefs game on Christmas Day. The Chiefs are beatable. But they have Mahomes, one of the greatest in the game today.

This should be a really good game.

This Guy! As a Trojan fan, I developed a serious hatred of him pretty early on. But since he’s gone Pro, I can’t hold anything against him.

Absolutely the Chiefs are beatable. They coulda/shoulda lost to either the Bills or Ravens, and one can convincingly argue that mistakes cost both Buffalo and Baltimore chances to win the game.

But as evidenced by both playoff games, the Niners are also beatable. They too coulda/shoulda lost to either the Packers or Lions. And it was mistakes by both those teams that allowed the Niners to come back and eventually win those games.

To repeat an oft-used cliché, the team that makes the fewest mistakes will probably win the game.

On another topic, I noticed today that the ESPN crawl was listing the Niners as 1.5 point favorites. This is the line listed by FanDuel, all other bookmakers shown on the VegasInsider site still the the Niners as a 2-point favorite.

I’m going for the Chiefs. I like stories of sustained success, and the Chiefs are pulling it off as well as any other team I can recall from recent years. I also like the whole Kelce and Swift thing. I like Patrick Mahomes, and I like Andy Reid, who reminds me of my father both in physical appearance and in personality (at least from what I can tell based on his commercials). Of course as a Cowboys fan I couldn’t bring myself to go for the 49ers except in exceptional circumstances.

Aaron Rodgers. Ouch!

Wow I remember watching that game. Almost forgot about him. It’s been a long season.

GO NINERS!!

Lucky you.

Your quarterback is wearing Taylor’s lucky number, that can’t be a good omen.
