Hilarious/sad factoid. DJ Moore won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award. This is the first time a Bears WR has won that award since 1999.
It’s been almost a quarter century. For an award given out every damn week.
…and only half the teams in the league are eligible for it.
To be fair, Bears RBs and TEs have won it.
Does this say more about the quality of WRs they’ve had, or more about the quality of QBs that have been throwing to them?
For the last quarter century? They’ve had decent to good and even occasionally very good QB play over that span
A little surprising Marshall or Jeffery never won it. Marshall had a three touchdown game the same week that Doug Martin rushed for 4.
So much comes down to timing. Trubisky didn’t win player of the week for his 350 yd, 6 TD game because Goff threw 450 yards, 5 TD the same week.
What it really shows is a lack of consistency.
Teams that are consistently good week in and week out will consistently have weeks where somebody does something notable. Given more chances to stand out due to consistently solid play, they’re going to get more player of the week opportunities.
And Chicago hasn’t been consistently good in a long, long time.
Jeffery set the Bears all time single game receiving mark twice. First with 218 yards and.TD (in a loss) and 8 weeks later broke it again with 249 and 2 TD (another loss). Eric Decker had 174 yards and 4 TDs in week 13. Rookie Geno Smith won it in week 5 with 199 passing yards, 3 TDs and a 147.7 passer rating.
Kind of wild, but big games in losing outings is probably the Bears MO.
Chiefs continue to win ugly. Tonight their offense moved the ball, but some really curious play calling stopped a couple of drives and they scored just one touchdown. But their defense only allowed one score, and their FG kicker hasn’t missed yet this season. It hasn’t been pretty, but they’re 5-1.
