NFL Draft 2012

I see Pete Carrol still just has to show how much smarter than everybody he is. I’d have thought the Jets experience would have taught him a little.

Scwhartz for RT. I remember Scwhartz being considered a backup plan if we had to take an RT in round 3 if Glenn/Massie/Martin were gone. But he was chosen over them. Were there mock drafts or other sorts of things that agreed with that assessment?

YEAH JETS FANS, YOU BOO TROY BROWN. HE’S WORSE THAN HITLER

Wow, it must suck to be a Seahawks fan this weekend.

If Pete Carroll thinks he knows these guy like the back of his hand because of his college scouting experience, that’s great, he might be right and these guys could both be amazing players. But, if everything you hear about the guys says they are valued a full 20-30 pick later than you’re picking them you trade back and add picks. Yes, there’s some risk, but you can’t keep reaching for guys. The Seahawks are the new Raiders I guess.

ETA: Big draft for the Illini. Wow…why did we suck again? Wonder if Trulon Henry will get picked. Dimke very likely will. Hope Henry can be a Bears UDFA. 4 Illini drafted, only 2 from all other Big Ten schools combined.

OK, Tavon Wilson is not on my 150+ player big board. First one I haven’t heard of.

Yeah, that sounds like trying to show off. That is… “I think these guys are going to be better players than everyone else thinks!” - the smart reaction to that is “take them very slightly ahead of where other people can be expected to get them” - the stupid, show off reaction is "take these guys way early, to show I knew they were so much better than they were ranked when they bloom.

It’s like if you knew Tom Brady was going to be great, and took him as a first round pick. Well, everyone else has him rated as a 6th rounder, so you may as well take him in the 5th. Of course, everyone else might have them ranked correctly, and Carrol’s showing off just makes it an even more painful bust.

and of course Belichick is patient 0 of the See-how-damn-smart-I-am epidemic, but at least he has history of backing it up by actually being right.

Schwartz was completely off my radar. Wonder what’s up with Massie. I’m starting to think Konz has a chance to slip back to the Bears in round 3.

ETA: This draft might go a long ways towards getting Zook another high profile college coaching gig.

Damn, I liked Isaiah Pead as a possible future Frank Gore replacement. Good pickup.

I’m betting Isaiah Pead has a real chip on his shoulder from childhood.

Bellichick doesn’t show off. Caroll is being stupid by altering his decisions in an attempt to look smart, but actually making them worse decisions. Bellichick just makes the right decisions that go against conventional wisdom and it rubs everyone the wrong way because they don’t like to actually think about the decision rationally.
Speaking of dumb, I can’t help but think that if Schwartz was the Browns’ first choice at RT, they could’ve waited until round 3 to take him, because that seems to be his value. Could’ve had Hill and Schwartz instead of Scwhartz and the 9th or 10th best WR.

You really don’t think they could have gotten him a bit later?

I really dig Pead. Like the selection for the Rams.

Going back to my earlier reference to the Simmons-Lombardi Podcast I listened to on my commute today, they were speculating about who would trade up with the Vikings and who’d be the best landing place for Richardson. They somehow came to the conclusion that the Rams would be the smart choice to trade up, they weren’t sure how likely it would be, but they thought that the Rams had the most to gain and the most picks to make it happen. The basis of the argument was that it was time to start grooming a replacement for S-Jax and to avoid having to pay him another contract and working a trade with say the Jets or another contender for Jackson.

All that is pretty much moot, but with the Rams grabbing a RB early in round 2 it seems it’s not that far off.

ETA: Shit, that’s a pretty nice pick for the Packers.

Doesn’t Eddie Geroge look silly with that bow tie?

I love the Zac Brown Band. “Toes,” “Whiskey’s Gone,” and “Knee Deep” are awesome songs… oh, wait…

The bow tie is OK, it’s just the wrong damn collar for it.
ETA: Really not a fan of the Titans draft so far, might have a pair of total busts on their hands so far.

Packers trade up 8 spots, give up a 4th rounder, and get Jerel Worthy. Nice.

I’m shocked that Still lasted this long, he’s just too powerful. I’ve determined any and all nose tackles have motivation issues. He looks better on tape thatn Poe, that’s for sure. Good for the Bengals to pick up a guy like that for AFC North competition.

The Bears traded up 5 spots, 6 picks earlier, and only gave up a 5th. Hmm.

Lavonte David for the Lions? Maybe Konz? Robinson?

Nope, Broyles. Nice WR but I figured with Titus Young on the roster they’d focus elsewhere.

Nope, Broyles, who I have a 4th Round grade on.

The Lions get a slot guy to complement Megatron. I would have picked Givens, I suppose.

Yeah, the Bears gave up 150, the Packers 132 to move 3 extra spots. And I’m thrilled the Bears haven’t found the time to improve that O Line yet.
