Browns selected a WR I haven’t even heard of, Ben Travis, who has a 66.5 rating on the nfl.com draft tracker. He’s a midget that ran 4.36 at the combine. Well, we need speed on offense I guess.
A fullback? Jesus fucking Christ. What the hell are they thinking, they found Clutts last year who turned out to be a pretty solid FB why are they burning a 4th rounder on this position?
The Browns released Clutts because they drafted Owen Marecic and couldn’t cut their 5th (?) round pick, even though Clutts was better. Maybe you’re doing the same thing.
Did Bobbie Massie rape someone’s dog or something? He was a top of the 2nd round type lineman that no one wanted. I’d rather the Browns have a competition at RT and have a backup swing tackle than some unknown midget WR that could be had next round… Joe Adams was certainly a higher rated WR pick too.
In exchange for repeatedly trading down starting from their 3rd-Round pick, #92, the 49ers now have:
2012 6th (#180)
2012 6th (#196)
2013 3rd
2013 5th
2013 6th
Doing some reading and I guess the guy is a combo TE/FB, essentially a old school H-back. Actually I’d love to see the Bears implement the H-back position into the offense, maybe Tice and Co. think this is the new thing, the evolution of the Pats 2 TE scheme. I can see it working, especially if the Bears up their play-action ratio. That said, I don’t know much about Rodriguez but I’m not sure he’ll be a good enough blocker to play FB.
Actually, with 4.36 speed, I wonder if he replaces Cribbs on returns…
At 6’5", 320 he’s a not a linebacker, in Canada or anywhere else.
I’d like to buy a fish license.
Yes, my fault. I borrowed the position from garygnu’s post without double checking it (but which makes Idonije more relevant).
ESPN says the Browns aren’t trading McCoy. Fine with me, no need to get rid of him, he’ll make a better than average backup, he costs nothing, and he’s a good kid. It would’ve been stupid just to dump him anyway I think. This may mean Seneca Wallace gets a boot for a developmental pick though.
Could be that no one offered anything more than a 7th or something for McCoy.
Maybe McCoy can be our QB of the future… being the younger guy on the roster Let Weeden play for 8 years, and that may just be enough seasoning for Colt to be good!
Also, why is it a big deal that Washington took Cousins? I mean, I guess because they have bigger needs and fewer picks, but it’s not like he has a chance of unseating RG3. They just wanted a backup/developmental.
Watching some clips of Rodriguez, he’s a terrible blocker and I see no chance of him displacing Clutts as a pure inline blocking FB. He’s almost certainly going to be a H-back/Wing/TE who they motion and split out a lot. He’s pretty dangerous getting into the flat and should be able to move the chains a lot. I do love the idea of having a H-back to chip on ends and getting into the pattern on the ends, I think it’s a position who’s time has come again. Not convinced Rodriguez is the best guy to do that with because of his height, but I can see Rodriguez and Davis on the field together and Cutler abusing teams with the play action.
Sorry, it was a funny quote. Maybe should have changed it to match the player’s actual position, but it was just a joke.
Chase Minnifield is sitting there. Destiny?
…Aaaaaand no.
No 5th rounder for the Bears so I guess that guy won’t be in the cards for them as I’d hoped.
Do the stupid Raiders pick Vontaze Burfict here?
If Al Davis was around, they’d have picked him in the first.
And Ronnel Lewis for the Lions, Had to look him up. A DE turning to OLB who is very Strong, very agile, and medium speed, and can’t jump worth a shit.
All in All seems good value for what was projected, and He’s on D so pretty good pick
They have many needs, including a below-average O-line and a below-average group of receivers.
Given that they already have a passable backup in Grossman, taking a developmental QB in the 4th round is a waste of value.
They have an interceptable backup in Grossman. You put Sexy Rexy in, you’re basically just throwing in the towel.
I didn’t have to look that guy up. Good pick this late.
